I have prepared a biography video of the prime minister of Nepal. Starting this week, I am planning to produce a biography video of a celebrity every week and publish on Sunday. There will be 52 biographies in a year. This week’s biography is of the new prime minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba. Watch the video first before reading the details of his life:
Who is Sher Bahadur Deuba?
From a simple family of a village in Dadeldhura, Sher Bahadur Deuba is one of the major political personality in Nepal. He started his political career as a student leader. In the start, Nepali Congress leader, BP Koirala, had supported Deuba in the party. After BP’s death Nepali Congress was led jointly by Ganesh Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Girija Prasad Koirala. After the death of Ganesh Man and Krishna Prasad, Girija was the sole leader of the party. The only leader in the party to challenge Girija was Deuba. He managed to become Prime Minister despite Girija Prasad Koirala. It is believed that Girija was one of the forces behind the impeachment of Deuba in his first tenure as the prime minister.
Bibekshil Nepali has chosen a young and deserving candidate for the post of Mayor in Kathmandu. Although there is a little hope of her winning the election, she sure seems to be an interesting candidate. Let me dive into who Ranju Darshana is.
Who is Ranju Darshana?
Born in 2052 BS, Ranju lives with her single mom. She is currently doing her Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies in National College, Baluwatar.
Ranju wasn’t fan of the city closure for a political agenda. She is the advocate of disciplined politics. She told that her candidacy is the protest against “political syndicate.”
Ranju Darashana had been quite active in all the programs and protest program held by Bibekshil Nepal for the last three years. She says that she has a goal to make the city clean and beautiful.
Who are the other candidates of Mayor in Kathmandu?
As the schedule date of local level election, May 14, nears, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has revealed some of the details of the candidate for the poll. One of the candidate of RPP is actress Rekha Thapa.
The party hasn’t entrusted Rekha to be the Mayor but a Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Municipality. The Mayor candidate is Rajaram Shrestha. Rajaram was the ex-speaker of the party. Rekha was elected the Central Committee Member by the Party Convention held a while ago.
This is the first time the actress is competing in an election as a politician. Earlier she had taken the membership of CPN (Maoist). In the second Constitution Assembly Election, the party had selected her as the candidate of Parsa district. But, she had to denounce the candidacy because she had forgotten to register herself in the voter’s list.
This time – Are you willing to vote for Rekha Thapa? Continue reading
Youths and film artists have teamed for lobbying for the elected chief of the state in the new constitution. Actress Namrata Shrestha had participated in a student meet organized in Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus on Monday. In a political meet organized on Saturday, the artists have highlighted the importance of an elected Prime Minister. Actor Hamal told that he believes in the Presidential rule. Karishma recalled the governments formed after the 2046 BS change.
Based on her actions these days, we can easily guess that actress Rekha Thapa is feeling insecure and impatient to to start something other than acting.
Actress Rekha Thapa
After enjoying a decade-long position of being top actress, she might be well aware that new actresses might dethrone her any time. That might be one of the reasons she was the only winners who didn’t attend the National Film Award ceremony. Rekha later accused the organizers of asking her money for the award.
After the National Award Ceremony Rekha had expressed her dissatisfaction of Garima Pant winning the Best Actress award in SAARC Film Festival and the National Film Award. She made a whole lot of fuss about her not knowing about the SAARC film festival and likes. She also didn’t like Neeta Dhungana winning an award in the National Film Award. She even accused Jharana Thapa winning the award because of her close ties with the FDB chief Pappu. Although Rekha’s accusation were serious nobody took it seriously. Is that a sign that Rekha was feeling grossly insecure as an actress?

It shouldn’t have been a big deal whether the Maoist Chairman , Prachanda, purchased or leased the new residence. Everybody needs a residence and a leader like Prachanda wouldn’t fit in a small house. At the same time, leaders needs to be transparent on everything they do and shouldn’t try to hide things specially related to financial dealings.
Prachanda’s son Prakash, in his Facebook post, told that the new residence is leased f
or Rs. 60,000 a month. The quoted lease amount is believed to be extremely cheap for such a building made on a land of three ropani. There was a rumor that the building wasn’t leased but purchased. A weekly newspaper, Sanghu, has published a details on the purchase of the building and asked Prachanda to be transparent on the financial dealings on the purchase of the new residence.
Indian Yoga-guru asked the corrupt politicians to be hanged!
In Nepal, we are only wishing – "let the corrupt rot"! That is because, there is nobody to ask or tell. Here are some of the posters from Banke, Chitawan, and
As long as our newspapers depend on some political party (or, one leader in this case), the debate of neutrality, in itself, is flawed.
The journalists are more worried about loosing the job! (read the comment written by the journalist Arun Baral – click to enlarge)
It seems, it is a very tough choice between the sustainability and neutrality.
Does this prove newspapers (National Dailies) are compromising their neutrality to sustain?
This is an old issue and I am not sure what happened afterwards. Does anybody know what the Supreme Court has ruled on the case?

the residency permit, Mr. Jha is an Indian national and his father Pulkit Jha too obviously is an Indian national.
