Sunil Thapa awarded lifetime achievement awards at FOG, USA (photos)

Nepali actor Sunil Thapa was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award at the FOG awards held on August 15 at San Francisco, USA. Thapa was one of the five recipients of the awards including Jackie Chan, Kieu Chinh, Bappi Lahari and Matin Sheen.

Festival of Globe (FOG) has been going on in the USA since August 7 and will wrap up on August 16. Nepali artists participating in the festival include Nandita KC, Keki Adhikari, Suresh Darpan Pokharel, Richa Ghimire, Shankar BC, Sunil Thapa and others.

Top 5 nominations, NEFTA Award 2015 (full list)

The nomination of the top 5 in the NEFTA Awards was announced in a press meet held in Kathmandu. The nominations selected by a 6-members jury has released the nominations of 35 different categories.

Like the previous a couple of editions of the award ceremonies, 2015 edition will also be held in a foreign country. The ceremony is going to be held in association with the International Artist Forum, Qatar. Previously the award ceremonies were held in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Keki Adhikari flies to the USA

Actress Keki Adhikari, director Suresh Darpan Pokharel have gone to he USA to participate in the Festival of Globe (FOG) or San Francisco Global Movie Fest. Actresses Poozana Pradhan (Poojana Pradhan) and Nandita KC are also going to participate in the festival. Poozana is currently in Hong Kong and Nandita is already in the USA.

According to the organizer’s website Nepali participants in the festival are Nandita KC, Suman Bista, Keki, and Poozana. Love You Baba and Sunkali to be screened in a film festival in Japan

The movie by the youngest director in the world, Saugat Bista, ‘Love You Baba’ is being selected in a Film festival in Japan. The festival titled Shinokubo Drama and Film Festival will start on August 15. The movie will be screened on August 16 and 20.

The festival will screen movies from 17 different countries including Korea, Japan, China, Singapore Thailand, Belgium and Nepal. With ‘Love You Baba’ another Nepali movie by Bhojraj Bhatt, ‘Sunkali’ will also be screened in the festival.

National Film Award, Kabaddi Best Film, Dayahang, Sangam Bista and Richa Sharma best actors

The president Ram Baran Yadav awarded the National Films Award 2015 in an even held at the President’s place, Shital Niwas, on July 28. In the ceremony ‘Kabaddi’ was awarded the Best Movie Award (watch ‘Kabaddi’ here). Actor Dayahang Rai was awarded the Best Actor (male) award for his role in the movie ‘Sambodhan’. Actress Richa Sharma and Sangam Bista  were awarded the Best Actress Award for their role in ‘Talakjung VS Tulke’ and ‘Love You Baba’ respectively.

Nischal Basnet was awarded the best director’s award for his work in ‘Talakjung VS Tulke’. The Best Cinematographer award was awarded to Shailendra Dhoj Karki for his work in ‘Zhigrana’ and Nimesh Shrestha was awarded the Best Editor award for the same movie. The movie ‘Matan’ was awarded the best movie in ethnic films category. ‘Kabaddi’ writers Rambabu Gurung and Upendra Subba were also awarded in the ceremony.

NFDC National Award nomination certificate handed over to the artists

The certificate of the nomination for the NFDC National Award was handed over in a ceremony held on Saturday in Kathmandu. In the ceremony, the artists selected for the nomination in 17 different categories were given the certificate of nomination by Minister Mindndra Rijal and FDB chielf Raj Kumar Rai.

The third edition of NFDC Film Award is scheduled to be held on September 12. In addition to making the announcement of the date of the award ceremony, the minister Rijal had also unveiled two songs of upcoming movie ‘Thamel dot Com’.

National Film Award to be held on July 28

The film award organized by the government, National Award is going to be held on July 28 at the residence of the president, Ram Baran Yadav. The award ceremony being organized by the Film Development Board (FDB) will award National Film Awards in eight different categories plus a Lifetime Achievement Award. 

The award value of Lifetime Achievement Award will be Rs. 351,111 and a trophy. Other awards will be awarded to the best film, best director, best actor (male), best actor (female), cinematographer, editor and best ethinic film.

Rekha Thapa breaks Malaysia promise for the third time, Karishma replaces her

It has been three times Rekha Thapa has missed participating in the cultural program organized by Nepali living in Malaysia. This year, Rekha had promised to participate in the Friendship Dhamaka 2015 but cancels her participation as the time nears.

Last year, in 2014, Rekha didn’t go to Malaysia to participate in the NEFTA Award at the last minute. According to reports, Rekha didn’t go when bargaining for the Best Actress Award failed.

In 2013, Rekha didn’t go to ‘Remix Dhamaka 5’ as promised. Rekha was highly criticized and the organizers were very worried for Rekha’s irresponsible behavior.

Now, it has been a hat-rick of Rekha’s being irresponsible to the Nepali people in Malaysia three years in row. Will they forgive her, only time will tell. Now, the organizers are greteful to actress Karishma Manandhar for agreeing to participate in the program in place of Rekha.

Television artists honored in National Television Award 2072

An award ceremony was held in Kathmandu on July 12 to award television artists. The ceremony was held to distribute National Television Award 2072 to the TV programs and their producers. In addition to the award, the program also featured cultural program including songs, dances and comedy programs.

Actor, producer and director Nir Shah was honored by the Lifetime Achievement Award of value Rs. 1,11,111. Minister Minendra Rijal had handed over the award to Shah. Shah dedicated the award to all the television related personnel. Current chief of Nepal Television, Nir Shah, was also instrumental in starting and leading Nepal Television in its initial days.

Namrata Shrestha launches an app of Nepal Police

To help general public, Nepal Police has launched a new mobile phone app, Hamro Police. In an event organized in Kathmandu on July 5, actress Namrata Shrestha has launched the app. Speaking at the ceremony Namrata believed that the app will bring the public closer to the police.

Namrata said, “I believe, the app will help the police to in performing their duties.” She also asked everybody to help the police to make the society safe. DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma also highlighted the importance of the app in the age of mobile technology. The app allows public to report an incident so that police can take an action. It also collect public complaint and allows SMS reporting of incidents. The app also informs the public about police alerts and gives the location of the nearest police stations.

NEFTA Film Award to be held in Qatar among 75 movies

A program was held by NEFTA last week (June 20) to announce the 8th edition of the Nepali movie award program. The announcement was made among various film artists and technicians by cutting a cake and clapping a clap board.

NEFTA also welcomed the new chief of Film Development Board (FDB), Raj Kumar Rai. Raj Kumar suggested the organizers to have young film makers in the jury.

According to Manoj KC, the movies released from Baisakh 1, 2017 to Chaitra 30, 2071 will be included in the award. Dates and other details of the program is yet to be revealed although the program is scheduled at the festive season Dashain – Tihar.

Beauty in paddy field, Nepali actress photo shots in Asar 15

The mud-filled festival of farmers, celebrated on Asar 15, is now largely show off rather than an actual festival. In the past, when most of the people in Nepal were farmers, it was the festival to start the cropping season. The marriage between work and fun is filled with celebration. These days, Asar 15 has been the celebration for photo-op and tourism. Nepali actresses have taken this opportunity to shot music videos and modeling photos in paddy field.

Actress Ashishma Nakarmi has headed towards Europe for the charity shows of her upcoming movie ‘Adhakatti’. With Ashisma singers Astha Raut and Pramod Kharel are also flying together to Belgium.

What do Nepali artists say about the first International Yoga Day

On the proposal of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, starting this year, June 21 is being celebrated as the International Yoga Day. Although the popularity of yoga in our Nepali celebrity circle doesn’t seem to be that much, we have collected and shared the experiences and best wishes of some celebrities on the Yoga Day.

Actress Namrata Shrestha says that, her father had introduced Yoga to her. These days, she practices meditation and relaxation – one of the branches of yoga.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu had organized a Yoga workshop to mark the International Yoga Day. The comedy duo MaHa (Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bamsha Acharya) participated in the event. In his Facebook post, Madan Krishna has said, “Happy International Day of Yoga. We did Yoga today in Indian Embassy and in Pashupati area. Yoga is good for health, brain and prosperous life.”

Actor Raj Ballav Koirala says, Yoga is necessary to ‘cleanse your body, mind and soul…’ He wishes peace and serenity prevail in our lives through prayers, meditation and yoga.
