Nepali Movie – Mukhauta
Starring – Rajesh Hamal, Sunil Thapa, Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, Robin Tamang, Nisha Adhikari, Harshika Shrestha, Prashant Tamrakar, Arpan Thapa etc.
Director – Arpan Thapa
Being a multi-starrer, the movie was highly awaited. But, the wait resulted in higher expectation – more than what the film had to offer. So the most awaited, gangster/crime themed movie wasn’t successful in the box office. The movie tells the story of the underground mafia operating in Kathmandu. Because of violence and vulgar dialogues, the movie was given an ‘A’ certificate. The grading is given to films only suitable for the audience aged 16 years or older.
I wrote about the movie previously – ‘Mukhauta’ was released on June 13, 2014. The reason movie didn’t get the viewers as expected was attributed to various factors. The world cup football game was running at the time of the release – so, the film makers had also blamed the game for the failure of the movie. ‘Mukhauta’ producer Rabin Shrestha had recently announced the start of the production of the sequel of the movie titled ‘Mukhauta 2’. I had appreciated the participation of Harshika Shrestha in the premier of the movie in spite of her broken leg. The affair between Nisha Adhikari and cricketer Sharad Veshwakar became more apparent when they were seen together at the premier of the movie. This is the debut movie of the director Arpan Thapa as an actor.
No she didn’t.
But, the photo of herself biting on the award medal, she shared in her Instagram, surely qualifies her to win an award. Don’t you think so?
The Films Critics Society of Nepal (FICSON) has distributed the Critics Award for the last three years in a program held in Kathmandu. The awards for the year 2071, 2072 and 2073 were distributed in the event. Although the award is distributed this year, the Critics Award 2015 was announced in 2015. (news of Critics Award 2015)

They might not be as popular as their husband, but they are equally important in the lives of our idols/superstars. Let me introduce you to the wives of Top 10 Nepali Actors:
Before diving into the details, watch a video I prepared a while ago:

Known for his down-to-earth nature and natural acting talent, Dayahang is considered unconventional hero in the film industry. Dayanag is married to Benuka Rai, a singer by profession. About ‘Fateko Jutta’
The movie is considered one of the most awaited movies of the year because of the star cast and a successful song. The trailer and the song titled ‘I am sorry..’ were well received by the audience. This is a huge moment for actress Shweta Khadka. After a long depression, the actress has made a comeback in the film industry as an actress and a producer of her upcoming movie ‘Kanchhi’. The first song of the movie released today shows a lot of potential. In an event held in Kathmandu on November 2, the song made on a folk tune – ‘Chari Chatta Pari…’ of the movie was released. The song made on the lyrics and the music of Rajanraj Siwakoti features Rajan Raj with Anju Panta’s voice.
The song features the choreography of Basanta Shrestha and features Shweta Khadka with Dayahang Rai and Prajjwal Sujal Giri. ‘Kanchhi’ is shot in locations like Mustang, Upper Mustang, Jomsom and Kathmandu.
Nepali actresses come very cheap when compared to their male counterparts. The actress Rekha Thapa, who claims to be equivalent to a male actress, and always works in female-centric movies, is paid less than most of the male actors. Rekha’s rate is Rs. 5 lakh. Actor Anmol KC is paid about five times that amount. Another actor Pradeep Khadka is also paid more than four times that amount. In Rekha’s last movie, she also paid her co-star, Aryan Sigdel, 3 times the amount she expects others to pay her.
Is it a female dominance or a discrimination? Are the actresses not demanding their worth?
First let’s see who is paid what amount watch the video report:
List of the pay rate of Nepali actors:
- Anmol KC – 25 lakh for ‘Kri’ (Anmol’s father, Bhuwan KC is co-producer of the movie)
- Pradeep Khadka – 23 Lakh for ‘Lilibili’
- Aryan Sigdel – 15 Lakh for ‘Rudrapriya’
- Dayahang Rai – 15 Lakh for ‘Mr. Jholey’

- Paul Shah – 8 Lakh for ‘Shatru Gate’
- Nikhil Upreti – 6 Lakh for ‘Sanrakshan’
