The comeback movie of Shweta Khadka after the untimely demise of her husband Shree Krishna Shrestha in 2014. She waited four years before she starred in another movie. In 2014, The last movie of them being featured together – film ‘Kohinoor’ was released. Shree Krishna was at the hospital at the time of the release. He had sent an audio message to the viewers of the movie that he couldn’t attend the release of the movie. It was a shocking moment for Shweta Khadka. She went into depression for a long time. It took a very lengthy treatment in Nepal and out of country before Shweta become better. The movie got a lot of viewers in the theater and was one of the successful movies of the year. The director, Aakash Adhikari had also directed the last film of Shree Krishna Shrestha, ‘Kohinoor’. The movie became a superhit movie earning a record breaking amount in theatre in 2014. ‘Kanchhi’ was released in 2017 in theatre.

In the last two months of its release in internet, it has gained more than 6 million views – yes, that is 60 lakh views. It is not only the views, the reviews of the viewers are also positive. One of the viewers say that it was the “best movie ever watched.” Others have also liked it.

Priyanka and Dayahang were most liked by the audience and they were rumoured to be seeing each other. But, when Priyanka found Ayushman DS Joshi, her relationship with Dayahang turned sour. This is the movie about the life of the Nepali people in UK. The movie is shot in UK and is directed by UK resident director Milan. The movie is new movie as it was released in early 2018 (read more).

There was a rumour of affair between Priyanka and Dayahang Rai at the time of the shooting of the movie. It was only a rumour and they had always denied such a relationship. After Priyanka found Ayushma Desraj Joshi, they haven’t been seen together on-screen or off-screen.

About Uma : The movie is made on the story of the Maoists insurgency in the 1990s. The aftermath of the 10-year conflict has polarised Nepali society and the effects of the ‘People’s war’ is still starkly evident. The film is set in the early 2000s, during the Maoist insurgency, when Nepal was going through one of the biggest conflicts in the country’s history. The movie is a story of a widowed mother (Mithila Sharma) and her two children – her son Milan (Saugat Malla) and her daughter Uma (Reecha Sharma). The film is inspired by true events. The story of the film is about a brother and a sister who are separated by conflict circumstances and ideological differences.

The love story and the popularity of the songs had been credited for the success of the movie. The movie turned out to be the one and the only successful film of actress Keki Adhikari.

But, it wasn’t as successful as expected. In YouTube, the film is getting a lot of viewers and is ranked the top in trending list. The movie was released on September 23, 2016 (read release news). The movie also features the lead actors of ‘Kabaddi’ and its sequel – Dayahang and Rishma Gurung. The director of the film is an well known film producer – Apil Bista had previously produced movies like ‘Dashdhunga’ and ‘Ritu’. He is also a graduate of film school.

The movie features Dayahang Rai, Subash Thapa, Dipsikha Shahi, Om Pratik, Deshbhakta Khanal, Aakash Pal, Ayushma Karki, and Rashmi Bhatta in main roles. The movie is made on a social story about marriage. The movie tries to give a message that marriage should not be forced upon the youngsters. The movie features the choreography of Gambhir Bista, action of Roshan Shrestha and script of Prakash Ghimire.

This 2015 release film, was featured Namrata Shrestha as a crime reporter. The movie however didn’t do well in theatre although it won some awards. Actor Dayahang Rai had actually won the National Award for his role in this movie. With Dayahang and Namrata other artists in the film are – Binaya Bhatta, Prasant Tamrakar, Suleman Shankar, B.S Rana, Kopila Thapa, Raju Lama, Prem Joshi, Sushma Lama etc.

This movie is directed by superhit director, Hemraj BC, who had directed both the initial films of Anmol KC. ‘Hostel’, ‘Jerryy’ and ‘Gajalu’ are three hit films of the director featuring Anmol KC in leading roles. The editor of the film is Surendra Paudel, cinematographer is Rameshowr Karki and the film is produced by Saroj Neupane & Bishnu Lama.

One of the songs of the film ‘Nira Jahile Risaune’ was very popular.

About ‘Mukhauta’

Being a multi-starrer, the movie was highly awaited. But, the wait resulted in higher expectation – more than what the film had to offer. So the most awaited, gangster/crime themed movie wasn’t successful in the box office. The movie tells the story of the underground mafia operating in Kathmandu. Because of violence and vulgar dialogues, the movie was given an ‘A’ certificate. The grading is given to films only suitable for the audience aged 16 years or older.

I wrote about the movie previously – ‘Mukhauta’ was released on June 13, 2014. The reason movie didn’t get the viewers as expected was attributed to various factors. The world cup football game was running at the time of the release – so, the film makers had also blamed the game for the failure of the movie. ‘Mukhauta’ producer Rabin Shrestha had recently announced the start of the production of the sequel of the movie titled ‘Mukhauta 2’. I had appreciated the participation of Harshika Shrestha in the premier of the movie in spite of her broken leg. The affair between Nisha Adhikari and cricketer Sharad Veshwakar became more apparent when they were seen together at the premier of the movie. This is the debut movie of the director Arpan Thapa as an actor.

Did Keki win the photography award at Critics Award 2017? (watch winning films)

But, the photo of herself biting on the award medal, she shared in her Instagram, surely qualifies her to win an award. Don’t you think so?

The Films Critics Society of Nepal (FICSON) has distributed the Critics Award for the last three years in a program held in Kathmandu. The awards for the year 2071, 2072 and 2073 were distributed in the event. Although the award is distributed this year, the Critics Award 2015 was announced in 2015. (news of Critics Award 2015)

About ‘Loot 2’

The sequel of super hit movie ‘Loot’ was also well received and the movie made a huge impact by its item song ‘Thamel Bazar’. Although the sequel wasn’t as successful as the original, people have liked it. A few days ago the movie was leaked in Facebook and now it is made available by the producers. Produced under Princess Movies and Black Horse Pictures Production, and A Popcorn Pictures banner, ‘Loot 2’ is directed by Nischal Basnet, the director of the original movie. In addition to Saugat Malla, Karma, Dayahang Rai, Reecha Sharma the movie also features Bipin Karki, Kameshwor Chaurasiya, Srijana Subba, Sushil Raj Pandey, Rratik Raj Neupaney, Sushil Uprety and Alisha Rai.

Mela, Romeo, Tandro and Sakas – 4 new releases this Friday

On November 10, 2017 four new Nepali movies have released in theatre. It is a very competitive release for some of the highly expected movies in the film industry. All single word named movies – ‘Meela’, ‘Tyandro’, ‘Sakash’ and ‘Romeo’ will sustain a damage because of the competition among each other. In terms of the star cast, none of the movie should be missed. ‘Mela’ has Salon Basnet, Amesh Bhandari and Ashishma Nakarmi; ‘Romeo’ has Oshima Banu, Nisha Adhikari and Melina Manandhar to watch for; ‘Tyandro’ features Dayahang Rai and is directed by Samten Bhutiya; ‘Sakash’ has Sushma Karki and Mahima Silwal with Wilson Bikram Rai.
