In secular state, Nepal, police arrest Muslim for selling cow meat

cowIt was back in May 18 of 2006, Nepal was pronounced a secular state and was no longer the ‘only Hindu nation in the world’. But, a news published on Nov. 5 in Kantipur and Himalayan Times implies that Nepal is still a ‘Hindu Kingdom’ in practice.

A Muslim from Siraha, Eastern Nepal, Mohammad Sabir, was arrested on charges of selling cow meat. Muslims don’t worship cows, and the "New Nepal" respects every religions.

Then, why is a Muslim arrested for selling cow meat? Is it only because Hindu (80% of the population) don’t eat it? Well, Muslims don’t eat pigs. Does that mean butchers selling pig meat should be arrested ?

Rekha Thapa offered tika to Maoist Brother Sagar in Bhaitika

Rekha Thapa made headlines when she danced with Maoist chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) during a protest rally in Kathmandu. She also acting in a movie named Jaljala featured as a maoist combatant.

Now, in the occasion of Tihar, her nearness to the party was evident when she took tika from YCL in-charge Chandra Bahadur Thapa (Sagar).

Rekha however wanted people to believe that the relationship is at the personal level and has nothing to do with her political or professional relationship. Previous years she used to offer tika to hair designer Lokesh Thapa but this year, he was also not available for tika. So she had made a new brother – Sagar for bhaitika.

Blocked sites in Nepal – Analysis of remaining websites in the list

This post is the second part – continued from the previous post: Blocked sites in Nepal – Analysis of first 10 websites in the list

“… stupidity rules in Nepal …”

… why is our government so worried about P-rn-Watchers’-pillars-of-the-nation? How about minding their own business & drafting Constitution on time?

Those were some of the responses to the ‘internet black list,’ the Nepal government prepared, with so much enthusiasm and dedication! In the previous post, I had given enough examples on what ‘the list’ was made up of. The six out of the first ten websites were no-brainier bull-sh*ts !

Let’s go through the remaining list:

Site No. 12 – This website features some magazine but, I couldn’t find any graphic materials in there. I didn’t bother to read  the content (and, I am more than confident that none of the decision makers of the list did read it!). The only apparent reason, the site falls in the list is that there is a taboo word in the title.

Blocked sites in Nepal – Analysis of first 10 websites in the list

Everybody must have laughed their hearts out while going through the first list of blocked websites in Nepal. Then came the second, updated list.

While going through the first 10 websites in the list, I found 6 out 10 sites were wrongly listed. You can guess what the rest of the list might look like (and, it is the second updated list)! I will do the remaining review later.

Second website in the list – is a parked domain. Hey, it is full of ads and nothing in it and it is blocked because the domain name is not decent-enough!

Beauty business – Miss Culture, Little Culture, Little Star

The Looks Fashion Homes is going to conduct two beauty contests – one for the kids and another for the grown-up girls. Miss Culture and Little Culture beauty contest will each feature 10 participants.

Little Culture will feature little children in the age group 6 to 12 year-old. Miss Culture will feature 10 girls in the age group of 13-20 years old. There will be 14 different awards in different categories in total. I guess, they will be evenly distributed among the participants.

It is to be noted that the same company had done a contest named Little Star contest. Don’t be surprised if the same company comes up with more contests for other age groups; say, 21-25 and 25-30 and so on.

Nepali 'Ban-List' is a promotion list – please add xnepali.com in it!

They did a good job of promoting some sites like Huffington Post, or sfsi (I had never heard of them before!) with the explicit websites ban list. Now, thanks to the wide-spread protest, the government has updated the list to remove non-relevant and add more sites like Playboy.

You might have expected the government had felt the shame and has done a good homework to update the new list. You are wrong! They are far from being serious in including the relevant sites in the updated list.
