About ‘Raaj’
A presentation of Mata Manakamana Films Production Pvt. Ltd, this movie features the superstars of Nepali movie industry Shiva Shrestha with action star Bira Bhatt. The actresses are Rejina Upreti and Sirjana Subba and Sirjana Adhikari. The movie directed by Shovit Basnet also features Shovit as a guest artist. Singer Nisha Sunar is also a guest artist in the movie.
The original ‘Dhoom’ of Nepali film industry was made by Jaya Kishan Basnet. A brother of the director, Shovit Basnet is the actor, story writer and script writer of the movie. The movie features action star Biraj Bhatt, Ramit Dhungana and Arjun Karki in leading role. The actress in the movie, Rejina Upreti was reportedly having affair with the director at that time (but, it was not officially confirmed.) Rejina is now married and has a child. Other actresses in the movie include Jenny Kunwar and Sanjita Gurung.
A controversial actress, Rejina Upreti, is not active in the film industry these days. She hasn’t signed in any movies after the failure of her production debut movie ‘Bardaan’. In the mean time, she got married to Suraj Pokharel and has been living as a housewife these days.

The movie mentions that Ram Raja Dahal had provided a apecial support to the movie. The music of the movie is composed by Mahesh Khadka, choreography by Raju Shah, action by Yogendra Shrestha, background score by Sanjay Shrestha and the editor is Banish Shah. The playback singers are Dipak Limbu, Anju Panta and Pushpa Poudel. The lyrics are written by Gobardhan Pooja and Daya Ram Pandey.

Maato Controversy – In the beginning, actor Nikhil Upreti had agreed to do the movie. But, in 2009, when Nikhil Upreti eloped with Sanchita Luitel and didn’t show up in the shooting, the film makers had to convince Rajesh Hamal to do Nikhil’s role (read my 2010 report). Rejina Upreti is featured in an action role in the movie (see MoviesNepal report). I don’t have the exact release date of the movie but, the shooting was going on in June of 2010.
Actress Rejina Upreti has given birth to a daughter on the evening of November 21, 2016. The child was born by a c-section surgery. Both the child and mother are told to be healthy and recovering. The newborn was born at 7:12 PM and weighted 3.35 kg at birth.

Romantic and action packed Nepali movie ‘Dharma’ was released in 2011, featuring Manisha Koirala in lead role. ‘Dharma’ is a presentation of Aasma Films by Diperndra K Khanal. The story and dialouge of the movie is written by Yougesh Rayamajhi and the movie is produced by Dr. Dugra Pokharel.

The movie ‘Dharma’ was promoted as the comeback movie of Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala. Manisha debuted in Nepali movie ‘Feri Bhetaula’ in 1989. But, the movie wasn’t as successful as expected. After that, Manisha went to Bollywood and established herself as the top actress. ‘Feri Bhetaula’ is not available online. The comeback movie ‘Dharma’ also failed to appeal the public. The movie introduces a new actor Samyog Pokharel.
The director of ‘Dharma’, Dipendra K Khanal directed a superhit movie ‘Pashupati Pradad’ last year. He is also the director of ‘Chapali Height’. Other artists in the movie are superstar Rajesh Hamal and action star Nikhil Upreti. This movie was made before Nikhil married Sanchita and left the film industry for five years. Nikhil has made a successful comeback and is busy in the film industry these days. Actress Anu Shah is also featured in the movie. Another actress Rejina Upreti was also a well known actress at the movie’s time. These days, Rejina has left the film industry after marrying her boyfriend. Rejina is expecting a child in November 2016.
‘Dharma’ Story:
The lead character, Rajesh Hamal is called ‘Dharmaa’ in the movie. Dharmaa is posted as the DFO of Kaliban after the poachers killed the previous DFO at the post. Dharmaa leaves his wife Gauri (Manisha Koirala) hat home with his brother Abhaya (Samyog Pokharel) and sister-in-law, Diya (Anu Shah). The poachers and the police in the Kaliban area had teamed up to smuggle the timber from the forest. Nikhil Upreti is featured as DSP Ajit Jung who investigate the incidents at the Kaliban. The first female producer of Nepali movie is Manju Rana, the producer of the Nepali movie ‘Juni’. After Manju the professional female producer of Nepali movie is Sumitra Poudel. Producer Malati Rai produced the super-hit Nepali movie ‘Saino’. These producers were not actresses. In later days, actresses had entered film production business with mixed result.
At this time, at least 5 movies produced by actresses are recently released or waiting to release in near future. Actress Poojana Pradhan‘s debut production movie ‘Chocolete’ is releasing on December 4, 2015. Similarly, actress Karishma Manandhar‘s production ‘Falgu’ is releasing on February 17, 2016 and actress Rekha Thapa‘s production movie ‘Rampyari’ is scheduled to release on April 8, 2016. Another actress, Suvekshya Thapa‘s home co-production movie ‘Bindaas 3’ is also ready for release. Actress Ashika Tamang‘s debut movie both as an actress and as a producer was released on October 23.

Rekha Thapa
Rekha’s ex-husband had registered Rekha Films after her and produced some successful movies under the banner. When Rekha and Chhabi divorced Rekha took the production with her. Chhabi had registered Chhabiraj Films banner to produce his later films. Rekha Films and Chhabiraj Films jointly produced ‘Hamesha’ before parting their ways in their next movies. The success of Rekha’s own production ‘Kali’ and ‘Himmatwali’ were after parting from Chhabi has proved Rekha a successful film producer.

Nepali movie ‘Achanak’ is a presentation of the producer Saroj Sharma Tirupati Pictures. The script of the movie is written by the director Deshbhakta Khanal. The movie was released in theatre in 2011.
Jeshika Khadka is introduced in a new name in the movie. The actress previously known as Jyoti Khadka had changed her name to Jeshika after her sex scandal with comedy singer, Prakash Ojha. The actress later committed suicide.
