Miss World Swimsuit and Miss World Sports declared

In the 60th Miss World beauty pageant being held in Sanya, China, Miss Sweden was awarded the Miss World Sports, held at Cima Luhuitou Park, Sanya on October 21, 2010. With this win, Miss Sweden, Dani Karlsson, is confirmed the top 25 semifinalists in the Miss World 2010. The runner-ups in the contest were Miss China and Miss USA respectively.

In another, Miss World Beach Beauty contest held on October 19, Miss Puerto Rico, Yara Lasanta, was awarded Miss Swimsuit. With this, Yara has secured the position of top 25 semifinalists. The runner-ups of Miss Swimsuit were Miss USA, Miss Norway, Miss China and Miss French Polynesia respec
tively.

The contest is being held in China after Vietnam backed out of the hosting contract on January 28, 2010. The final round of the Miss World 2010 will be held on October 30, 2010. The current Miss World, Kaiane Aldorino of Gibralator will crown her successor on the final of the event.

Texting for Greeting – Dashain saw a surge in SMS in Nepal

Did you get a lot of SMS greetings this Dashain ?

I did, and it seems mobile texting (SMS) is getting popular medium of sending best wishes in the festive season. The greeting card printers and designers are getting the heat as people start opting for online greeting cards and SMS greeting as the more efficient and cost effective method of sending best wishes.

Nagarik quotes Surendra Thike of NTC telling that the telecom provider served 21 million SMS messages in the 10-day-long Dashain.

In general a SMS costs Rs. 1 per message. Adding 23 percent tax and service charge, the total cost becomes Rs. 1.23 per message. During the festival season, the service provider companies offer discounted rates.

It's official, Khagendra is the shortest person in the world

A team from the Guinness World Records (GWR) has completed the final measurements of height and weight of Khagendra Thapa Magar at Fewa City Hospital in Pokhara on Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Three different measurements, done at 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Tuesday were used to get the final average values of height and weight of Khagendra. The final result of the measurement were 67.08 centimeters in height and 5.5 kilogram in weight. Khagendra replaces Edward Nino Hernandez of Colombia, a 70 centimeters tall previous record holder.

Miss Teen Pokhara 2010 is Dipika Pahari

In a contest organized on October 10, Dipika Pahari was crowned Miss Teen Pokhara 2010. A 10th standard student, 15-year-old Dipika, was the youngest among the the 15 finalist.

The first runner up was Sarala Thapa and second runner up was Sanju Thapa in the contest. Miss Teen Dipika was also the winner of Best Creative title. Sanju was also the Miss Photogenic.

Anita Gurung was the Public Selection and Best Smile title winner, Salina Gurung got the Miss Talent and Miss Catwalk. Other title winners are: Pramila Ghale – Best Figure, Sunita CK – Best Friendly, Anita Thapa – Best Performance, Anu Gurung – Best Personality, Su

After two months of ban on Explicit websites, the govt. couldn't implement it

In a latest news, the Home Ministry (HM) has decided to work with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to ban p0rn sites in Nepal.

It was in August the government decided to ban such sites in Nepal.  After a week or so, the government announced the ban of such sites and a "fine of Rs. 100,000 and/or 5 years in prison" for the violators. The ISPs were told to use filters and ban such sites. The public started crying foul-play when the ISPs started banning websites randomly.

Black Hole conference in Kathmandu

An international conference on "Accretion and Outflow in Black Hole Systems" is going to be held in Kathmandu starting October 11 2010. The conference will finish on October 15. The conference deals with the understanding of the process of accretion onto the central black hole and outflows from the system (including the jet formation) in BH binaries, AGNs and GRBs.

More than 130 professor/scientist/research student participants from India, Iceland, Italy, USA, France, Napoli, Germany, Chile, UK, Iran, Poland, The Netherlands, Pakistan, Czech Republic, Israel, Japan, Russia, Spain, South Afr
ica, and China will gather in Kathmandu for the conference. There will be a total of 62 oral presentations and 39 poster presentation in the conference.

The conference is jointly organized by the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), the Osservatorio Astronomico of Roma (INAF/OAR), the Italian Space Agency and its Data Center (ASI/ADSC), the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica (INAF/IASF Bologna), the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (Warsaw), and the Central Department of Physics (CDP) of Tribhuvan University (Kathmandu).

Laxman Tharu, the FDNF chairman, caught with prostitute

Laxman Tharu,  the chairman of Federal Democratic National Forum (FDNF), was arrested when the police raided Shree Ganesh Guest House at Bagbazaar and found him sleeping with a prostitute.

The raid was part of a surprise raid carried out by a special task force of Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka in an effort to curb prostitution and other illegal activities in Kathmandu. The police have also Parbati Puri (34), the owner of the guest house and the 20-year-old prostitute, the employee of the guest house.

Tharu was active as a Maoist during the people’s war until the party decided to start peaceful politics.

Google tests robot car (video)

A secret project at Google involves cars with technology to help them to "drive themselves."

It it’s blog post, Google says that its goal is, "to help prevent traffic accidents, free up people’s time and reduce carbon emissions by fundamentally changing car use." The Google cars have reportedly driven more than 140,000 miles with the help of video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to cruise through the traffic.

Poojana Pradhan's bikini photos removed

After the threat to sue the modeling website cybersansar.com, model turned actress Poojana Pradhan’s photos were removed from the website. Poojana has told that the website is misusing the photos.

The photos in question were shot in bikini in the banks of Narayani river. The hot photos are considered to be the ones that established her in the modeling and eventually as an actress. While talking about the signature photos she told that – they were good enough to start with but now, as a established actress she can’t afford to have such bikini clad photos around.

Himani Trust inaugurated by 'Shree Pach Sarkar' Gyanendra

The former king Gyanendra Shah Friday inaugurated a NGO named after his daughter-in-law Himani Shah. Inauguration of ‘Himani Trust’ was organized at Hotel Soaltee Crown Plaza, Kathmandu. In the program, the Chair Person of the Trust, Himani Shah and the vice Chair Person Prerana Shah addressed the gathering. In the inauguration speech, they called the former king and queen ‘Shree Paach’ and ‘sarkar’, the title only given to the Kings and their families during the royal-era. ‘Sarkar’ is a Persian word meaing ‘head of affairs’.
