Coupled with big expectations from extensive advertisements, hype, and big star casts "Maya’s Bar" was released in Kathmandu valley on July 27, 2012. In the theatres out of valley, the movie will be released on this Friday (August 3). The third directorial venture of Dinesh DC, "Maya’s Bar" is produced by Sunil Manadhar and features actors like Rajesh Hamal, Karishma Manandhar, Nisha Adhikari and Gajit Bista in leading roles.
Story:
Maya’s Bar is the story of Maya (Nisha Adhikari) and her family. Maya lives happily with her husband Gajit and a son, Bishal until they face a financial crisis. To cope with the financial problem Gajit joins fight club as a fighter and Maya joins a dance bar as a dancer. They both work for a company of Trilok Rana (played by Rajesh Hamal). But, both Gajit and Maya are not happy with their spouse’s profession. Gajit and Maya would occasionally express their respective dissatisfaction on Gajit’s work as a fighter and Maya’s work as a dancer. I wouldn’t like to ruin your movie viewing experiences by telling the story and problem that leads to the unexpected death of Maya (oops …).
Nepali movie ‘Bansuli’ has been selected in the 69th Venice Film Festival, to be held in Italy from August 29 to September 8, 2012. The director of the movie, Min Bahadur Bham, has also written the story and the screenplay of the movie.
The short movie produced by Black Horse Pictures in association with Underground Talkies, is 15 minutes long. Out of the total of 1752 short movies submitted, ‘Bansuli’ was one of the 18 movies selected in the festival. The movie features a 12-year-old Bijuli from remote Jumla in Nepal. The movie features Nikita Budha Thapa, Ghanashyam Giri, Naresh Bhandari and Hira Bijuli Nepali among others.

The movie ‘Highway’ had created a big buzz and a hype among Nepali youths before its release. Probably, ‘Highway’ is the first movie successful in creating such a big buzz before it’s release. It sure is critically aclaimed and is the first Nepali movie to be featured in Berlin International Film Festival.
Thanks to publicity and talks, the audience had a huge expectation from the movie. After the public release of the movie, majority of the audience think that the buzz and publicity was over hyped.

134 underage children were rescued from several embroidery factories when the District Administration Office (DAO) Bhaktapur raided there on Monday, according to news report.
The children were pressed into hard labor from early dawn to late night for a very less salary. According to one of the rescued children, 10-year-old Irfan Mukeri of Malangawa, Sarlahai, he worked for 14 hours every day in a congested dark room of a factory, but earned only Rs 200 per month.
Police raided several embroidery factories in Bhaktapur in the presence of an accompanying team of child right activists, representatives from Central Child Welfare Board (CCWB) and representatives of District Child Welfare Board (DCWB).
The administrations said that most of the rescued children are from Muslim families and were trafficked from Bihar of India and from several districts of Nepal. Most of them are under aged.
For health check up, all the rescued children were taken to a training centre of Agriculture Development Bank at Bhaktapur and are being kept at a shelter of Carnet Nepal at Lalitpur. (Photo credit: republica)
Prakash Dahal suspended from party after affair with a married woman

UCPN (Maoist) has suspended party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s son Prakash Dahal from the party’s Newa State Committee over his alleged extramarital affair with student leader Bina Magar.
Bina, the president of the Free Students Union of Saraswoti Campus and a central committee member of All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) and Prakash are apparently not in contact with their families for the past few days.
After getting divorce with the first wife, two years ago, Dahal has married for the second time and has a one-year-old son from his second wife. Magar is also a married to a different person.
Since Everest expedition in May 2012, rumours were being heard about their public display of affection and illicit relation. Magar was also in that expedition team.
As the serious questions were raised in public over Dahal’s activities, the party has suspended him and has initiated an investigation into the matter, according to party spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma.
WWF Nepal welcomed Miss Nepal Shristi

WWF Nepal welcomed Miss Nepal 2012, Shristi Shrestha as its seventh Young Conservation Ambassador on Monday.
Before Shristi, Miss Nepal 2011, Malina Joshi was appointed Young Conservation Ambassador. The Miss Nepal pageant winners were being appointed as the Young Conservation Ambassador by WWF Nepal from 2004 and since then Payal Shakya, Sugarika KC, Sitashma Chand, Zenisha Moktan and Sadichha Shrestha have got such appointment.
Anil Manandhar, Country Representative of WWF Nepal acknowledged Malina for her active contribution to help raise awareness on WWF’s conservation endeavors and welcomed Shristi.
According to WWF Nepal, Shristi will be actively involved in helping promote conservation, in WWF’s Snow Leopard Conservation Campaign, The Green Lumbini Initiative and The Generation Green campaign. International Indigenous Film Festival has begun

The 6th Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (NIIFF) has begun from Thursday, July 12 and it will continue till July 15 at Nepal Tourism Board and Rashtriya Sabhagriha at Bhrikuti Mandap from 10 am to 7 pm.
 In the film festival organized by Indigenous Film Archive (IFA), many national and international filmmakers will present their works. 79 films and documentaries have been shortlisted from 20 countries, out of which Nepal has 27 films and documentaries that are on Magar, Tharu, Tamang, Newar, Limbu, Rai, Hayu, Sunuwar, and Chepang communities.
The selected films are from Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Tanzania, Colombia, Finland, India, Philippines, New Zealand, Mexico, USA, Canada, Norway, Switzerland etc.
Stalls with various ethnic foods from communities like Limbu, Magar, Tharu, Newar, Dhimal, Chepang, and Sunuwar have been also placed.
For the Awards best 3 films, 3 awards will be distributed as Golden Drum, Silver Drum and Bronze Drum. There is Public Choice Award and Encouragement Award for the Best Nepali Film too.
Father jailed for 25 years on charge of Rape

Bhim Bahadur Subedi, a resident of Hetaunda Municipality-4, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on the charge of raping his daughter on April 24 while she was alone at home.
Neighbours had informed the police after hearing the girl scream and Subedi was taken into custody, according to RSS Reports. The Makwanpur District Court handed down 15-year imprisonment for rape and an additional 10-year imprisonment for incest on Subedi.
Miss SLC Teen 2012 is Bibita Chand

Bibita Chand, 16, was crowned Miss SLC 2012 in the competition entitled “Miss SLC Teen†organized by Bandana Kala Kendra and Team Work Nepal at Rastriya Nachghar Saturday.
Bibita, who passed her SLC examinations from Siddhartha Banasthali Institute of Kathmandu, left behind other 14 contestants. Susma Tamang from Naya Bazaar won the first runner-up title and the second runner-up was Nisha Nepal from New Baneshwor.
To the question, “What do you want to be: A successful person or good human being?â€, Bibita answered that she wanted to be a good human being because positive quality, good personality, and discipline were always there in good human beings which can also be found in successful persons and won the title. The title winner received full scholarship at Premier College and a purse of Rs. 30,000.

Corruption case against 65 principals of government schools in Saptari

Cases have been filed in District Administration Office (DAO), Saptari against 65 school principals in corruption charges. RSS writes quoting DAO officer Bishnuranjan Baral that 17 principals of the secondary schools, six principals of lower secondary, 40 of primary schools and two teachers from Madrassa schools have been accused.
Majority of the petitioners are chairman and other officials of the School Management Committees and some are guardians of the schools too.
In the case filed on December, 2011 against Amodhilal Mandal of Rastriya Primary School, Trikaul, Mandal was found guilty, so sent to Saptari District Prison, Rajbiraj, in April while some of the principals have returned the embezzled money.
Other filed cases are against Ramakanta Yadav of the Mahendra Chunni Janata Higher Secondary School, Manaraja including Mohammad Hussein of Shishubari, Digambar Saha of Shankar Higher Secondary School, Hamsha Narayan Mehata of Kushaha etc.

The strong point of the movie ‘Highway’ is that it contains most of the preferred Nepali actors of the Nepali film industry. Some of the actors in the movie had been very successful and are considered the gems of the Nepali film industry. Karma, Reecha Sharma and Binaya Shrestha are known by the audience from their last superhit movie ‘First Love’. Another successful movie ‘Loot‘ had featured to actors present in ‘Highway’ – actors Dayahang Rai (Gofle) and Saugat Malla (Hakku Kale).
The director, Deepak Rauniyar, is also a journalist and he had previously directed two short films ‘Pooja’ and ‘Chaukhat’. Both of his short film were appreciated by the audiences. The feature movie ‘Highway’ is his first directorial venture based on his experience of disruption of traffic by regular strikes (Nepal bandha).
After struggle in fixing the release date, ‘Malati Ko Bhatti’ was finally released in about 56 theatres all over Nepal. ‘Malati Ko Bhatti’ is the debut directorial venture of Ganesh Dev Pandey featuring actors/actresses Rekha Thapa, Jiwan Luitel, Nandita KC and Sunil Thapa in main roles.
Story:
The movie ‘Malati Ko Bhatti’ is the story of Aditya Sharma (Jiwan Luitel) frustrated with his life due to his unsuccessful love-marriage. Aditya’s wife, Sabitri (Nandita K C) is more fascinated towards parties, clubs, casino and gambling rather than her family. Aditya drinks a lot and becomes addicted to alcohol. He met Malati (Rekha Thapa) while visiting a small bar owned by her and known as Malati ko Bhatti. While visiting the Bhatti, Aditya and Malati got attracted towards each other and started a relationship.
In the contest held in Pokhara on July 7, Saturday, Miss Ranjana Thapa Magar is crowned the Miss Magar 2012 title.
There were a total of 23 contestants in the second edition of Miss Magar beauty contest. Miss Magar Ranjana Thapa Magar was awarded the crown and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. 20-year old beauty Ranjana hails from Tanahun, Dulegauda and has completed plus two.
In the contest, 21-year-old Miss Anita Thapa Magar was awarded the first runner-up title and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. The second runner-up Shanti Tilija Magar was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
Bijay Kumar Pandey’s talk show, Dishanirdesh, featured Rekha Thapa, the top actress in Nepali movie industry. In the show she talked about here reel life, real life, and her thoughts and feelings.
Little Lady Talent Show, another contest of girls between ages of 9 to 11, was held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.  This year, 10 Years old Sumi Gamaal of Syuchatar, won the title ‘Little Lady ‘along with cash prize Rs 5000.
 10 years old of Kalimati, Najejda Tamrakar became the First Runner up and 9 years old Shuvekchha Shakha of Bhaktapur became the Second Runner up. First and Second Runner up received cash prize Rs 4000 and Rs 3000 respectively.
