A 2014 release movie ‘Jhola’ is based on a story by literature Krishna Dharabasi titled the same – ‘Jhola’. The story is about an ancient tradition – Sati culture, until it was banned in 1920s. In this culture a wife had to immolate herself upon her husband’s death. In the start, some women used to end their life on her husband’s death voluntary, but later women were forced to commit Sati even against their wishes.

For her role in the movie, actress Garima Panta had won the Best Actress award at the SAARC Film Festival held in Sri Lanka in 2014. The film was also selected in Nepal to represent the country in the the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards. The movie however couldn’t succeed in being nominated for the award.

The movie was promoted as being made on the life of Suntali Dhami – the police officer who was raped by her co-worker police officers. The movie introduction however states that the story is not based on real incidents or people.

Short Films Competition 2015 (Watch 10 finalist short films)

The 10 short films selected for the final competition for Mang Heem Short Films Cometition 2015 has been released. Earlier, Mang Heem Films had called for the entries of short films on drug abuse theme. The competition is also a part of the promotion of the company’s upcoming release, ‘Rato Ghar’. There were 26 entries in the competition, a jury at the company has selected the top 10 for the final competition.

The competitor films range from 5 minutes to 10-minutes in length and are made on the theme of drug abuse. The director and producer of ‘Rato Ghar’, Suraj Subba Nalbo says that he is impressed by the number of entries and the quality of the films. According to the coordinator of the competition, Shanti Priya, the movies will be available in YouTube from November 1, 2015 to Feburay 1, 2016 for the evaluation. By the selection based on the decision of the jury and the response of the viewers one best film will win Rs. 100,000 in cash prize.

In this movie the direcotor Muskan Dhakal has debuted as a full director. In previous movies, Muskan used to work as assistant to Bikash Acharya. During the shooting of this movie Bikash was mourning and didn’t want to direct the movie. Bikash has directed the next in the sequel ‘Nai Nabhannu La 4’.
