It is not only in the Nepali movie industry, divorce among Nepali couple has been in the increasing trend these days. This might be because, compromising is not in the cards of today’s youth. I think, there is nothing wrong to get out of the relationship that is not working out. But, divorce also brings a lot of pain and problems to the both the couple involved. The traditional Nepali society has made it even worse by tagging them ‘bad example’ to the society.
In a latest news, the marriage between actress Shilpa Pokharel and film producer Chhabi Raj Ojha has been ended soon after their marriage was made public. Although they had married in 2016, Shilpa and Chhabi had kept it a secret until now.
In a heart-touching interview, Shilpa Pokharel, told about the torture she had lived through. Now, she has told that she has filed for divorce.
This week three movies were released on Friday. Nawal Nepal directed movie ‘Mangalam’, Yam Thapa’s movie ‘Hurrey’ and Ganesh Dev Pandey directional movie ‘Ganja Baja’. Out of the three movies, two of them are comedy genre movie and another social and love story movie. Because of the success of comedy films in these days, a lot of producers have been producing comedy films. It seems, people are more inclined towards non-comedy films. Two of the most recent successful movies – ‘Kri’ and ‘Kanchhi’ both were non-comedy films.
According to reports, ‘Mangalam’ has received a lot of viewers. The film produced by one of the most successful producers of Nepali film industry, Chhabi Raj Ojha, is being supported by his ex-wife Rekha Thapa. Rekha also told that it was her “own film.” She also appreciated the work of the director, two new actors and actress Shilpa Pokharel. Other viewers have also told that the movie is heart touching. Rekha says, ‘Even if you have never cried watching films, this film will make you cry.” But, I think, Rekha didn’t sound any critical and the appreciation remark seem to be motivated by something other than the film itself.
Chhabi Raj Ojha has told that he had tried to capture the multiplex cinema market with ‘Loafer’. But, the movie failed and this is the second time he has attempted to attract young audience and has been quite successful.

Regarding the two comedy movies, ‘Hurrey’ has got more viewers than that in ‘Ganja Baja’. The producer of ‘Hurrey has told that those who watched the film have liked it. The trailer of the film has got almost a million viewers:
The song ‘Theki Ma Dahi’ has received in excess of 2 million views.
About Ganja Baja, the movie didn’t get much viewers. Those what watch the film belong to the new age kids. The trailer of the film is not much popular in YouTube.

About ‘Kasle Choryo Mero Man’
The movie is the 11th movie by producer Chhabi Raj Ojha under Rekha Films banner. The movie is the fifth movie by Rekha films banner. That was before Rekha and Chhabi decided to divorce. The movie directed by Sabir Shrestha featured Aryan Sigdel opposite to Rekha Thapa. After the movie, actor Aryan and Rekha stopped talking with each other for about six years. They met in 2017 to work in ‘Rudrapriya’, released in Tihar this year. The movie however failed to impress the viewers. The movie also won the Best Movie award at the CG Film Award. When Rekha Thapa’s ex-husband Chhabi Raj Ojha went to Rekha’s upcoming movie ‘Rudra Priya’ premier with his to-be-wife Shilpa Pokharel, Shilpa and Rekha met and hugged each other. Chhabi and Shilpa went together but refused to be photographed together in the program.

The premier show of Rekha’s movie was held on October 16. The Rekha Thapa and Aryan Sigdel starrer movie is releasing on this Friday. In the premier Chhabi didn’t go to the stage but Shilpa went to the stage to meet Rekha Thapa. Rekha received Shilpa with a smile and hugged her. The scene was interesting as Rekha was an ex-wife of Chhabi and Shilpa is going to be wife in near future.
It was the first time these two actresses have met each other in a public function. Although journalists had requested Chhabi Raj Ojha to go to the stage and pose for the photograph with his ex and future wives, he refused.
Shilpa had entered Chhabi Ojha’s camp after Rekha had divorced after a decade long marriage and started her own production business.

‘Rudrapriya’ is releasing on Kartik 2 on Laxmi Pooja. The premier show was held on Monday at Kumari Theatre in Kathmandu. About ‘Kismat 2’
The movie is the sequel of superhit movie ‘Kismat’ featuring Rekha Thapa in leading role. The sequel features the new sweetheart of the producer, Chhabi Raj Ojha. According to Shilpa, the marriage between the two is confirmed and they are waiting for the ‘go-ahead’ message from the astrologer. The marriage rumour between the two helped the movie to get a lot of media attention. Although the success of ‘Lazza’ can also be attributed to a similar rumour during the release of the movie the rumour wasn’t found much effective during the release of their third movie. The original movie featured actress Rekha Thapa with Biraj Bhatt and Aryan Sigdel in leading roles. None of the original cast are repeated in the sequel. The original was written and directed by Ujjwal Ghimire but the sequel is directed by Rishi Lamicchhane.

About Chhabi Raj Ojha:
I have covered in detail about the producer in previous posts and videos because he is considered one of the most successful film producers in Nepali movie industry. Previously he was the owner of Rekha Films until she divorced and took the banner with her. He is also credited to groom Rekha to become the top actress in the film industry. These days, Rekha is independently producing her movies. Now, Shilpa seem to be going in the same path. Shilpa was a co-producer of Chhabi in their upcoming movie ‘Mangalam’.
The shooting of the movie produced jointly by Chhabi Raj Ojha and Shilpa Pokharel ‘Mangalam’ has finished. The shooting was packed up two days earlier than previously scheduled. According to the report, the movie was scheduled to complete in 35 days but it was finished in 33rd days.
The movie ‘Mangalam’ features the romance of Shilpa Pokharel and Prithivi Raj Prasai. Actress Samragyee RL Shah is also featured in as an actress in the movie. The debut movie of the actress Shilpa Pokharel, as a producer, is scheduled to release on Dashain of this year.
Marriage rumour between Chhabi and Shilpa
During the release of Shilpa Pokharel’s debut movie, Chhabi intentionally created a rumour about their marriage. Actress Shilpa Pokharel has debuted as a producer under Chhabiraj Production banner. The next movie of Chhabi Raj Ojha is titled ‘Mangalam’ and is presented by the actress of the movie, Shilpa Pokarel. Shilpa is also named the executive producer of the movie. The movie was inaugurated in an event held at Ganesh mandir in Kamaladi and Maitidevi Mandir.

A new twist has happened in Chhabiraj Ojha’s life in the past few years – after Rekha divorced and new actress,Shilpa Pokharel entered his life. The important events are:
Rekha Thapa left Chhabiraj Ojha.
Rekha Thapa took Rekha Films with her forcing Chhabi to register Chhabiraj Production. But, Chhabi wasn’t willing to let Rekha go. So, he and Rekha did a joint production movie – ‘Hifajat’ and Rekha was the lead actress.
Rekha went solo in ‘Kali’ and Chhabi went solo in ‘Loafer’. They annouced to release both movies on the same date. But, Rekha acted smarter and asked Chhabi to distribute the movie and delay ‘Loafer’.
In the mean time Chhabi and Rekha accused each other for betraying.
After 4 years of separation, Chhabi asked for the formal divorce.
Chhabi was so obsessed with Rekha that, he searched for the actress who looked similar to Rekha. Found Rajani KC to work in ‘Loafer’. The movie failed to win viewers heart.
Chhabi found another Rekha look-alike, Shilpa Pokharel. Shilpa’s movie ‘Lazza’ became successful opening the possibility of Shilpa’s entry in Chhabi’s life.
Now, actress Shilpa Pokharel is going to be the next Rekha Thapa in Chhabi camp, after being featured as the presenter of Mangalam and the news of her marriage to Chhabi.
5 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha as a Nepali movie producer was first published on Feb 9, 2014. I have re-written the post and updated with one more milestone added at the end. So, it has now become “6 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha”.
In 2040 BS Chhabi Raj Ojha started the distribution of Hindi movie. Originally from Dharan, Chhabi moved to Kathmandu to start film distribution. The first Nepali movie he distributed was ‘Bhagya Rekha’ – a movie produced by Chiranjivi Basnet and directed by Deepak Rayamajhi. At that time, he had also gone to Madras for the post production of the movie. Although the movie wasn’t successful commercially, it taught Chhabi the film business. The failure of ‘Bhagyarekha’ prompted Chhabi to find out the reason the movie wasn’t successful. After analysis of the cause and the solution, Chhabi proposed a new concept to the director Deepak Rayamajhi and he also promised to finance the movie.

Milestone 1 -Yug Dekhi Yug Samma
The movie ‘Yug Dekha Yug Samma’ marks the debut of Chhabi as a producer. The movie was also the debut movie of Rajesh Hamal and action director Rajendra Khadgi. All three new faces in the film industry – Chhabi Raj Ojha, Rajesh Hamal and Rajendra Khadgi made it big in the Nepali movie industry.
One of the most successful film producer of the Nepali movie industry, Chhabi Raj Ojha has turned 52 years old on November 22, 2016. To celebrate his birthday, actress Shilpa Pokharel threw a surprise celebration party. It was a very small and private party with only 4-5 people.

Telling about the party Shilpa wrote, “Surprise birthday celebration. Happy birthday to dear Chhabi ji (Baa). Many happy returns of the day.” Shilpa’s excitement can be felt in the way she has written the message. She has repeated “birthday” four times in a 20+ words long message.

In the interviews after the movie, they admitted that they had lied about the marriage for the promotion of the movie.

The movie ‘Kismat 2’ is a Chhabiraj Production movie – a sequel of a hit movie ‘Kismat’, but made in a new story. Another movie ‘Subba Saab’ is director Raju Adhikari’s presentation. These movies are released at the time ‘Chhaka Panja’ is keeping its holdover for a month.

Among the actresses mentioned in the video, actress Sharmila Malla is the only actress who had been the fourth wife, others are either third or the second wives of their husbands. Chhabi Raj Ojha’s next movie ‘Kismat 2’ is releasing in the Dashain this year. It seems, the film team is well prepared not to leave any stone unturned. The lead actress, Shilpa Pokharel has told in an interview that if her family agrees, she is willing to marry Chhabi Raj Ojha. Based on previous statement, I think, she is very unlikely to marry Chhabi and it is only a publicity stunt.
