It has been some time the kids enjoy the “Thank God It is Friday (TGIF)†parties every Friday, until the cops wanted to interfere today, March 19, 2010. More than300 students (313, to be exact) from 21 different colleges in the capital were arrested in Babylon Disco of Sundhara on Friday morning at 10 am. The Kathmandu police has started a series of raids on dance bars, discos and restaurants of the capital two days back. Last time police unearthed hidden dance bar, X Bar, in Sundhara and other dance bars on Wednesday.
The students caught in the raid were in their college and school uniforms when the police entered the bars accompanied by media persons. Students represented Sigma, Redhon, Youth Vision, Siddharth Banasthali, Golden Academy, Caspian, Prime, Nobel British Gurkha Academy and NCC among other colleges and schools in the capital. The discos usually organize such parties on Friday targeting students and encouraging to bunk classes to attend the parties, infamous with name TGIF.

The Guinness verification team gave a temporary registration to Khagendra and he will be officially registered as the shortest man of the world in Guinness World Records after six months when he turns 18. School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam starts on March 25, 2010. This year, about 450,000 students are taking the exam and among them is Kumari, a girl worshipped as a Goddess in Nepali society.
The Kumari of Patan, Chanira Bajracharya, is only allowed to leave her room 19 times a year on certain festivals. That was the reason why the teachers from the local Vashara School have been visiting her to teach in her room for the last ten years. The SLC exam is also arranged such that she doesn’t need to go out of her house for the exam. The SLC exam controllers will go to her house to conduct exam of the single student.
Puskar travelled 150 countries on a bicycle and now the bicycle is on sale along with other stuffs like flags, soil, coins, post stamps, and beer caps. The auction of the stuffs he collected from different countries he visited will take place in United World Trade Centre, Tripureshwar.

Puskar had promised to carry flags of all the countries he visited to the top of the World – for which he needs cash. He needs about Rs. 4 million to climb the highest peak, Mount Everest, towards the royalty and other costs.
The titles of Miss Sherpa and Miss Friendship were dragged into controversy when the announcer called the wrong name for the title. The titles were awarded to the wrong contestant.

This year’s Forbes Magazine’s Rich List is topped by Carlos Slim, a 70-year-old Mexican telecommunications mogul worth an estimated fortune of $53.5 billion. Last year’s richest person Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is placed in second position with an estimated fortune of $53 billion.
Gates was the richest person for some time until Warren Buffett, this year’s third richest person, stole the top spot off him in 2008. Gates had held the title of world’s richest 14 of the past 15 years.
Mukesh Ambani, worth $29 billion, is placed in 4th position. London’s richest resident, Lakshmi Mittal, worth $28.7 billion, is in the 5th position.
Bollywood actress of Nepali origin is back in Nepal, shooting for her upcoming Nepali film “Dharmaâ€. Her first and the only one Nepali movie, Pheri Bhetaula, was released some 22 years back. The movie was not that successful and she left for Mumbai to seek acting opportunities there.
Manisha Koirala was born on August 16, 1970 in Kathmandu Nepal. She is popular as an actress in Indian films, a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, and social activist. Manisha started her career in a Nepali movie ‘Pheri Bhetaula’ in 1989. In India, she has worked in various Hindi and Tamil films. Some of the notable hindi moives are Saudagar, A Love Story, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Khamoshi: The Musical, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, and Dil Se. A Tamil movie Bombay was also one of her very successful movies. In recognition to her acting talent she has received some prestigious awards in the movie industry.
After 22 years of absence in Nepali movies, Manisha Koirala has recently started acting in a Nepali movie named Dharma. The movie originally named ‘Rajniti’ was renamed ‘Dharma’ to suit the character of Manisha.
Manisha had enjoyed the post of the top actress in Bollywood, the Indian movie capital, for some time in the past. But, these days new actresses have taken over and she doesn’t have much projects in hand. That was one of the reason she agreed to act in the Nepali movie. Nepali movie industry is not as advanced as Bollywood and the talent in the industry is not of that of the quality Manisha is used to.
Thanks to the bed scenes, Nepali movie Palpalma was dragged into controversy during its shooting. The movie was widely publicized with photos and posters of such scenes featuring Ramit Dhungana and Sujata Sitaula.
The Film Board however didn’t cut any scenes and categorized the movies not suitable for everybody.
The movie revolves around the lives of the wives of ‘Lahure’, who go to foreign lands to work. Lahure wives and their search of male partners is the main story of the movie. The main characters in the movie is the wife of a foreign worker and her partner.
The movie was shown in two locations in Hong Kong recently. The director of the movie Ukesh Dahal told that the Nepali community in Hong Kong liked the movie. Palpalma is the first movie of Ukesh as a director.
Many had expected "Avatar" to bag the best picture award. But it was "The Hurt Locker" that won the award making some new records in the Oscars’ history:
The Hurt Locker is the lowest-grossing best picture winner of all time.
Also a first time – a lowest-grossing movie beat the the highest-grossing movie in modern history, Avatar.
One of the producers of the winner movie was banned from attending the Academy Awards – and that was also the first in the Awards history.
After his highly successful movie “Sano Sansarâ€, Alok Nemabang is coming back with a new movie “Kohi Mero”. Alok is considered to be one of the young and promising filmmaker in Nepali film industry.

Kohi Mero officially marks the return of Jharana Bajracharya back into the Nepali silver screen. Also introduces Subash Thapa who has appeared in more than 10 of the Alok Nembang directed music videos.
Shot in 2K digital format, the budget of the movie is Rs 5.5 million. Kohi Mero is about four friends who go their own ways following certain philosophies and circumstances of life. Nembang says that the chemistry between these four is what makes this movie going.
