Miss Beer ??

The girls in an odd t-shrit with a beer’s name in big letters on the front looked very cheap.

The infamous “Real Juice” in front of the judges gives an impression that the event was sponsored by Dabur Nepal.

Mero Cinema Popular Award – Voting going on for the winner

A new experiment in Nepali movie industry, a website, merocinema had announced an online award on December 3rd, 2010. After the nomination round, the public voting is going on for the selection of the winners. The final winner will be announced in January.

The nomination for the best movie are:

  • Kohi Mero
  • Dashdhunga
  • Baato Muniko Phool
  • Desh
  • First Love

In the similar manner, there are 17 categories and the completion is among 39 movies released in the year 2010 form January t
o November. Please visit merocinema.com to vote for your favorite choice in each categories. A person can only vote once in each category on a given day.

With due respect and support to the award ceremony, I have some reservation on the fairness in popular votes method to choose the winner. A latest example is the Time person of the year selection. Time magazine asked its readers to select the person of the year – the Wikileaks founder was leading by a vast majority of popular votes. But, the final announcement was different from what everybody expected – the Facebook guy Mark Zuckerberg won the Time Person of the Year.

Online movie award – Merocinema Popular Awards announced

A Nepali movies site, merocinema.com, in association with a TV program, Rajatpat, has announced a virtual movie award – Merocinema Popular Awards. The first edition of the yearly movie award will start from the 3rd of December.

The website will ask the movie lovers all around the world to select best in the 15 different categories and vote for them.

There is no doubt that the "virtual award" is a new experiment in Nepal. We have seen the online voting system to be biased and the best (and the busiest) artists usually are defeated in such polls.

Although merocinema has posted about the support from various personnel from the Nepali movie industry, details on the timeline, rules, methodology, and prizes are not publicized yet.

We wish all the best to the new experiment in the Nepali movie industry.

Miss Little Culture, Pokhara is Tushar Dube

A beauty and talent contest among the girls aged 6-12 years was held in Pokhara recently. The winner among the 9 contestants was Miss Tushar Dube.

The first runner up of the contest was Miss Ishma Gurung and second runnerup was Pringja Gurung. Ishma was also the Most Confident and Pringja also received the Best Cultural Dress title.

This should be the most rewarding contest as every contestant received at least one title. The title winners were:

    1. Miss Tushar Dube – Miss Little Culture
    2. Miss Ishma gurung – First runner up – Miss Little Culture and Most Confident
    3. Miss Pringja Gurung – Second
runner up – Miss Little culture and Best Cultural Dress
    4. Miss Liza Koirala – Viewer’s Choice – Most Cute
    5. Miss Liza Pun – Most Disciplined
    6. Miss Sushma Poudel – Most Friendly
    7. Miss Ashminta Pun – Best Performence
    8. Miss Jesika Pun – Most Cute
    9. Miss Sophiya Kunwar – Best Smile

I wonder if they had some more titles and they didn’t have contestant to award the title.
