After Global Films Award 2017 held a while ago, another Nepali film award is scheduled to be held on September 17. The award by Nepal Chalchitra Sangh, top 3 nominations were recently released. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at Dallas, Texas.
A total of 45 movies, about half of the movies released last year, had applied to participate in the award. The nominations were prepared by evaluating the application. Here are the list of nominated artists and films. There are 16 different awards to be awarded to one of the following nominations.
INAS Award nominations were announced on November 5, 2016. Right after the announcement, the organization’s Nepal Chapter members were not happy. That is not all, I think, nobody is interested or excited about Â yet another award. Although many accuse omission of some of the best movies, the the nominations are expected. The winners will most probably be the same one that had already won different awards for the same movie, same artists and category. I am sure, many winners won’t go to receive the award.

INAS Award controversy started right after the nomination
Some of the members of INAS (International Nepalese Artists Society) have expressed their dissatisfaction over the nomination on the award. When two successful movies ‘Woda Number 6’ and ‘Prem Geet’ were not nominated in any categories, some of the members accused that the jury had made decision without even watching the movie. The nominations of the fourth edition of INAS Film Award, to be held in Gangtok, Sikkim on Kartik 24, were released on November 4, 2016. There are three nominations on each of 19 different categories. The award is being organized by the International Nepali Artist Association (INAS). In the award movies released in 2015 and released till April 15 ofÂ 2016 were included. ‘Classic’ has led the list with nominations in 9 categories, ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ follows with 6 categories and ‘Pashupati Prasad’ in 5 categories. These three movies are also the top three movies in the nomination.
The top 5 nominations for the 9th edition of NEFTA Awards has been released. In NEFTA Award 2016 the movies ‘Classic’ and ‘Prem Geet’ have received the most number of nominations in the 31 categories announced by the origanizer. Classic has been nominated in 18 categories and ‘Prem Geet’ is nominated in 17 different categories. In third place, ‘Pashupati Prasad’ has been nominated in 9 categories. In the Nepali film award organized by Gopi Krishna Movies, the ‘Classic’ actors Namrata Shrestha and Aryan Sigdel were chosen the best actors. But, the winner of the best movie award was ‘Pashupati Prasad’. The Best director award went to Dinesh Raut, the director of ‘Classic’. The editor of ‘Classic’ Surendra Poudel also won the Best Editor award.
Although there used to be various awards for Nepali music, a new category of award has emerged – Music video award. To evaluate the technicians and artists in the newly emerging field, award nominations for the new Music Video Award has been released. The award will be awarded in three categories, namely:
Category A – Music – Best Vocal (Male and Female), Best Vocal Pop (Male and Female), Best Lyrics, Best Music, Best Arrangement and Best Lok Dohori
Category B – Video – Music Video, Video Director, Actor, Actress, Choreography, cameraperson, editor
Category C – Special – Music Video(Diaspora), National Feeling, New Talent, Trend Setter, Special contribution
Nepali movie ‘Dying Candle’ has won an award at the sixth Queens World Film Festival, held in New York, USA. The movie was awarded Best Cinematography in a Feature award in the award ceremony held on March 19, 2016. The cinematographers of the movie were Rabin Acharya and Dipankar Sikder. Sikder is an Indian cinematographer.
The movie directed by Naresh Kumar KC, ‘Dying Candle’ was nominated in three categories including Best Actress In a Feature Award, Best Feature Narrative Award and Best Cinematography Award.
BesLike previous years the Nepali film awards by the association of Nepali film technicians, NEFTA, was held in foreign soil. This year’s award ceremony was held in Qatar. In the ceremony held among 8,000 audience award on various categories were handed over to the winners. Winning 5 different awards, ‘Talakjung Vs. Tulke’ became the best movie this year.

The Nepali movie premiered in Venice Film Festival, ‘Kalo Pothhi’ has been awarded the Best Film award at the Critics Week at the 72nd Venice Film Festival. The festival was held from 2nd September to 12 September, 2015. The festival organized by Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean (FEDEORA) is one of the oldest film festivals in the world.
After winning the award, the director Min Bahadur Bham has told, “I want to dedicate this award to the my beautiful but torn country and my fellow Nepalese. I pray that peace prevails in my county and end the political crisis.” In the thank you speech, Bham has also remembered his late mother who had passed away recently.
Nepali actor in Hollywood, Jaswant Dev Shrestha, has won the Best Leading Actor award in the Accolade Global Film Competition. The award was awarded to Shrestha for his role in the short film, ‘The Treason’. In addition to the best actor award he was also awarded Award of Merit for script writing.

The Films Critics Society of Nepal (FICSON) has announced the winners of the second Critics Award. The movies released in 2071 BS were considered in the selection of the winners. Winners were selected in eight different categories. Best Background Music award is an addition to the categories awarded last year.
Nepali actress Rekha Thapa has announced that she and her home production movies won’t participate in any Nepali movies award ceremony. She has accused the organizers of manipulating them to award the films of their choice based on personal influences and money.
Rekha has termed all the award ceremonies in Nepal as ‘Room Awards’.
The nomination for the third edition of NFDC Award has been released. In the nomination top five in each of 14 categories are released. The awards will be handed over in 20 categories. The nomination is prepared by a jury of four members from the movies released in the past one year.
The movies considered for the nomination include the movies censor cleared by the Censor Board from the first to the last day of 2071, and released in at least five different theaters.
In the nomination movie ‘November Rain’ has received the most, 8 nominations including the Best Director and Best Movie. The nominations for the best movie are ‘Jerryy’ (watch ‘Jerry’ here), Kabaddi (watch ‘Kabaddi’ here), Nai Nabhannu La 3, ‘November Rain’ (watch ‘November Rain’ here) and ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’. The directors of these movies were also nominated for the Best Director award.
International Artist Forum Europe (IAFEU) has announced the Nepali film award to be held in Belgium on September 26, 2015. In the award ceremony awards in 14 different categories will be awarded. The announcement was made in a press meet held in Kathmandu on January 27, 2015.
In the press meet, Pradeep Kumar Uday told that the Forum is planning to held yearly award ceremonies in various countries in Europe.
Similar to the Kamana Film Award, held earlier, Keki Adhikari and Aryan Sigdel have managed to win the best actor awards in D Cine Award.
The film award only for the films made on digital technology, D Cine Award, was held in Kathmandu on December 3, 2014. In the award ceremony organized by Chhayachabi Creation, awards in 22 different catgories were awarded.
Two movies that won most award with 5 awards each are ‘Nai Nabhannu La 2’ and ‘Chha Ekan Chha’. Actor Aryan Sigdel and actress Keki Adhikari were awarded the best actor and actress award respectively.
