[Watch two of the nominations in BEST MOVIE category – Hostel and Nai Nabhannu La 2]

The nominations of the Nepali film award to be held in Hong Kong, International Film Academy Award (INFA 2014), is released in a press conference held in Hotel Hayat. The award ceremony is going to be held on October 26, in Hongkong. The organizers are going to honor film producer Uddav Poudel with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He will receive Rs. 500,000 in cash and certificates in the ceremony.

The press conference also featured comedy program of Jitu Nepal and Wilson Bikram Rai. Actresses Priyanka Karki, Nandita KC, Keki Adhikari danced on stage.

In the award ceremony some 60 artists including , Shiva Shrestha, Bhuwan KC and Karishma Manandhar will fly to Hong Kong. Awards will be presented in 20 different categories. The nominations in these categories are as follows:

The third sequence of Nai Nabhannu La starts

[Watch "Nai Nabhannu La 2" here. The movie released earlier this year was one of the most successful movies of the year.]

The shooting of the third sequel of the hit movie ‘Nai Nabhannu La’ has started in Kathmandu on October 8. In a program held at Bhadrakali temple, the first shot of the movie was done featuring actor Samyam Puri and Ashma DC.

The third sequel is being directed by the assistant director of the previous two sequel of the movie, Muskan Dhakal. The director of previous two sequels, Bikash Acharya, will only be overlooking the direction of the movie as he is mourning the death of his mother.

Dipa Basnet became the first by directing Shree Paanch Ambare

Deepa Basnet is NOT the first female director in Nepali movie industry. But, she sure is the FIRST female director who has directed her second movie. So far, no female director had directed more than one movies. In our investigation on female directors in Nepali film industry, there are only 5 female directors and they had directed one movie each.

Deepa Basnet‘s directorial debut was ‘Antaral’. Although the movie was liked by critics, it wasn’t successful in theater. She had also won the best director award in D Cine Award. She reportedly was very frustrated by the politics of release and holdover in theater. She had told that she wouldn’t direct another movie. But, the producers of ‘Shree Paanch Ambare’ convinced Dipa to direct another movie.

Rekha Thapa film Himmatwali released all over Nepal and Gopi Krishna Theater

In spite of the government instruction to the film theaters not to release the movie, Rekha Thapa‘s new movie ‘Himmatwali‘ is released in theaters all over Nepal including Gopi Krishna Theater in Kathmandu.

The government had asked the theater owners to ‘implement the agreement’ and release new Nepali films only on Fridays in theaters in Kathmandu. But the theater owners have broken the decade-long trend of releasing new movies on Fridays by releasing Himmatwali in one of the theaters in Kathmandu.

Himmatwali release delayed in Kathmandu

UPDATE: The movie release wasn’t delayed. Rekha Thapa has confirmed that the movie has released in Kathmandu (at least in Gopi Krishna theater and probably in other theaters too).

The government has stopped the movie scheduled to release on theater against an usual practice of releasing Nepali movies on Fridays. Rekha Thapa‘s movie ‘Himmatwali‘ was told to be releasing on Fulpati festival, falling on Wednesday, not on Friday as agreed previously.

According to an agreement between the Film Producer association and Film Association on Shrawan 23, 2060, "Any new Nepali movies can only be released on Fridays." Based on that agreement, the Communication ministry has asked FDB to stop the release against the agreement.

Kohinoor, 51 days in theater celebrated

The last movie of Shree Krishna Shrestha, ‘Kohinoor’, celebrated the milestone, 51 days in theater in a program held on September 27. The Communication Minister Dr. Minendra Rijal was the chief guest of the program held in Kathmandu.

The program appreciated the media and personnel that helped in making and promoting the movie.

Friday Release – Danav

Today, on September 26, 2014, Nepali movie ‘Danav’ is releasing in theaters all over Nepal.  The movie produced and directed by Dinesh Sharma features Mahima Silwal opposite to Dinesh Sharma. The movie is the debut movie of Dinesh as a director. In addition to producing and directing Dinesh has also written the script and dialogue of the movie.

The actress of the movie is known for controversial interviews and hot photo sessions.

The movie under banner Rakshanda Films is made on action and romance story. The movie is releasing in more than 50 theaters all over Nepal.

How Funny, Malvika Subba debuts as a filmmaker

Miss Nepal 2002 and model Malvika Subba is debuting as a filmmaker with Nisha Adhikari, Keki Adhikari, Priyanka Karki, Dayahang Rai and Anup Bikram Shahi starrer movie ‘How Funny’. The movie to be directed by Nilu Doma Sherpa is also made on her story and concept. The script of the movie is written by Shan Basnet.

It’s not only the a movie with funny name, the banner is also named funny – Tiny but Big Pictures. The crews (and the colorful name) indicate that the movie is going to be somewhat related to modeling and fashion industry.

Friday Release – Punte Parade

A comedy movie of Punte – Samyam Puri is going to release in theater on Friday – September 19, 2014. The movie ‘Punte Parade’ featuring Samyam Puri, Anjila Dahal, Nilu Doma Sherpa and Priyanka Karki is made on the psychology of a teen. The main character Punte in the movie is a typical Nepali school boy who has crush towards his teacher and goes through all the troubles a typical teen can go through.

The movie by Darsana Arts is produced by Hari Mahat and Suraj KOirala. The movie is written by Shan Basnet in the concept of Nilu Doma Sherpa and is directed by Subash Koirala.

First look of Nir Shah movie, Seto Bagh released

The first-look poster and trailer of the movie made on a historical story of a popular book ‘Seto Bagh’ is released. The movie directed and produced by Nir Shah features the story of the last 30 days of Junga Bahadur Rana. Actor BS Rana is featured as the Jung Bahadur.

Produced jointly by Mahashakti Multi Media and Nir Cinema, ‘Seto Bagh’ movie and a TV serial on the same story was shot at the same time. The book by the same title was written by by Diamond Shumsher JB Rana is one of the most read literary books in Nepal.

Premier show of Prashant Tamang movie Nishani held in Hetauda and Kathmandu

A premier show of upcoming movie ‘Nishani’ was held in Hetauda and Kathamndu. The movie features Prashant Tamang and Anu Gurung in lead roles. In the premier held in Kathmandu film producers, directors and film artists were invited. The show in Hetauda was held for the film journalists.

Hostel sequel, Hostel Returns announced

The producer of the hit movie ‘Hostel‘, Sunil Rawal has announced the sequel of the movie ‘Hostel Returns’. The producer who was ready to take ‘Love Number’ to floor has pushed it back in favor of the the ‘Hostel’ sequel.

In an announcement by Sunil, the movie is going to floor on October 7 and like ‘Hostel’ he will also introduce new actors in the sequel movie. The movie will feature Sushil Shrestha, Najeer Hussein, Abhaya Baral, Sushil Sitaula, Sashi Shrestha, Swostika Khadka, Sudam CK, Ramesh Shreshta, Ivash Joshi etc. The movie will be directed by Suraj Bhusal. Suraj was also going to direct ‘Love Number’.

Sweta Khadka watches Kohinoor, cried all the time

In a VIP show of ‘Kohinoor’ organized in Kumari theater on September 1, 2014 Sweta Khadka, the actress and widow of late actor Shree Krishna Shrestha watched the movie with Shree Krishna’s 82 years-old mother. Sweta cried throughout the two and half hours-long movie she produced jointly with Shree Krishna Shrestha.

Sweta and Shree Krishna had promised to watch the  movie with the viewers after its release. Although Shree Krishna couldn’t make it because of his death the next day of the movie’s release, Sweta kept the promise on the 25th day of the release of the movie.

Rekha Thapa to do item dance in Nikhil Upreti movie

Actor Nikhil Upreti is going to produce a movie titled ‘Bhairav’ and featuring actress Anu Shah opposite to Nikhil Upreti. In the movie, actress Rekha Thapa is also going to be featured as an item girl.
