Failures and successes in Deepak Raj Giri’s life

When you look at the life of Deepak Raj Giri, it was nothing to laugh at. A comedy actor, Deepak, went through a very tough time while growing up. Some of the depressing moments of Deepak’s life:

  • Mother died when he was 4. As a kid, Deepak didn’t know what mother’s love is.
  • Failed SLC twice. The School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam is considered the iron gate of our life. Being not able to pass the basic school exam is considered a total failure in Nepali context.
  • Marriage aged 18. Having a responsibility of a wife at an young age is an added responsibility.
  • Ran away from police training. He was about to become a police officer. But, the training proved to be too tough and he had to run away before the completion of the training.
  • Kicked out of home – When he couldn’t get into job and won’t earn a living, his father decided to teach him the life lesson and asked him take his family and live on his own.
  • The movie featuring Deepak Raj Giri in leading role, ‘Sundar Mero Nam’ flopped.

INAS Film Award 2015, winners (full list)

The third edition of INAS Film Award was held in Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi in Kathmandu. The award ceremony held on Sunday awarded director Tulsi Ghimire with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The award has has a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. The award ceremony was organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN) and the Film Development Board (FDB). In the program, NRN Upendra Mahato appreciated in the improvement in the quality of Nepali movies. Actor and musician Muralidhar expressed his happiness to be honored in a Nepali film award ceremony.

12 Major Theaters closed after earthquake, Chha Ekan Chha re-releasing

According to Motion Picture Association, 12 major theaters are closed in the earthquake affected area. Some of the closed theaters are undergoing repairs after earthquake damages and others are closed because of the lack of the movie to screen in them. As the earthquake aftershocks haven’t stopped even after a month of the devastating earthquake, viewers are skeptical in going to theaters to watch the movies.

According to Gopal Kayastha, Kalanki theater is in the verge of collapse, Asta Narayan and Ganga are also being renovated after earthquake. Other closed theaters include a multiplex in Bagbazar, Subhakamana and Mayur theaters in Banepal, Barahi and Kamalbinayak theaters in Bhaktapur, Hira Ratna, Asta Narayan, Ganga and Kalanki theaters in Kathmandu.

Chha Ekan Chha to release to support earthquake victims

The comedy actor and the producer of the hit movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha,’ Deepak Raj Giri has announced that the movie is re-releasing on Friday to support earthquake victims. According to report, co-producer actress Deepa Shree Niraula had suggested the re-release of the movie.

As no new Nepali movies are being released for some time, Deepa and Deepak had decided to utilize this time to release the hit movie to collect fund for earthquake victim. The movie released on January 10, 2014 got mixed review and aggressive promotion in television. The movie is also available to watch in full in xnepali here – watch ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ here.

Keki and Aryan also won D Cine Award (winners list)

Similar to the Kamana Film Award, held earlier, Keki Adhikari and Aryan Sigdel have managed to win the best actor awards in D Cine Award.

The film award only for the films made on digital technology, D Cine Award, was held in Kathmandu on December 3, 2014. In the award ceremony organized by Chhayachabi Creation, awards in 22 different catgories were awarded.

Two movies that won most award with 5 awards each are ‘Nai Nabhannu La 2’ and ‘Chha Ekan Chha’. Actor Aryan Sigdel and actress Keki Adhikari were awarded the best actor and actress award respectively.

Dhanda bagged the most awards in NEFTA 2014

Three movies ‘Dhanda’, ‘Mokshya’ and ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ were awarded three different awards for Best Movie, Jury Award and Popular Film awards respectively. In addition to the best award, the movie ‘Dhanda’ was also awarded 4 more awards in different categories including best director and best actor award.

‘Dhanda’ writer Arpan Thapa was also awarded the Best Writer Award. Subarna Thapa won the Best Screenplay award for the script of ‘Soongava’. Deepak Raj Giri of ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ was awarded the Best Dialogue Award.

Chha Ekan Chha artists and technicians offered bonuses

A success party of the hit movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha‘ was organized in Kathamndu to appreciate the effort of the technicians and the artists involved in the movie. The movie released some 8 months ago was liked by the movie goers.

In the program held in the evening of August 24 the producer Deepak Raj Giri distributed bonus amount to the artists and technicians of the movie. In the program he told, "Everybody from spot boy to the director have made it possible to make the blockbuster movie." He told, although the bonus amount is small, he told that was the way he want to appreciate everybody.

Deepa wants to produce another movie, Deepak ‘not interested’ in awards

Encouraged by the success of her debut movie as a producer, Deepa Shree Niraula, told that she wants to produce another Nepali movie. Deepa revealed her desire during the nomination announcement ceremony of Box Office Film Award 2070. Deepa is one of the producers of hit movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha‘. Deepa’s partners in the movie are Deepak Raj Giri and Nirmal Sharma. Nirmal had produced other movies in the past but, ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ is the first movie he could recover his investment.

Although Deepa Shree had acted in various movies in the past and she is basically  a comedy actress, she hadn’t appeared in the hit movie. The movie was nominated for 17 different awards in this year’s Box Office Film Awards.

‘Chha Ekan Chha’ piracy, 22-years old arrested

The producers of ‘Chha Ekan Chha‘ organized a press meet to announce that a 22-year-old Sandip Magar was arrested by the police for recording the movie in theater and releasing it in YouTube.

In the press meet, Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula and Nirmal Sharma felt satisfaction on the arrest of the pirate. The producers were worried about the overseas market that had already earned them 40 lakh in Rights.

Chha Ekan Chha the first movie of Nirmal Sharma, Gaida to recover investment

The comedy actor commonly known as Gaida after the character he does in ‘Tito Satya’, Nirmal Sharma is also a movie producer. Out of the six movies he has produced so far, only one movie, ‘Chha Ekan Chha‘ has resulted in profit. All his previous movies had flopped.

Last movie he produced was produced jointly with Sudhanshu Joshi – ‘Nepal’ in 2007. The movie also filmed in USA had a huge investment that couldn’t be recovered.

The top comedians of television – Deepak Raj Giri, Jitu Nepal, Sitaram Kattel, Kedar Ghimire, Shiva Hari Poudel – each have the potential to make an extremely funny movie. But, the movie featuring all of them in leading role – ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ – doesn’t have anything that impressive in terms of story.

Released on January 10, 2014 the movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ is produced jointly by comedy serial ‘Tito Satya’ team comprising of Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula and Nirmal Sharma (Gaida). The movie directed by Dinesh DC features the top comedy actors of most popular comedy serials ‘Tito Satya’, ‘Jire Khursani’, and ‘Meri Bassai’. The sole actress in the movie is Neeta Dhungana.

Chha Ekan Chha earned Rs. 7.8 mil in two days

The makers of Nepali movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ have told that the movie running in 70 theaters all over Nepal has made a very good starting. According to Ujylo FM, the movie has earned Rs. 7.8 millions in two days of it’s release.

The movie featuring well known actors of small-screen comedy serials started with a very aggressive promotion in television and on road. The movie directed by Dinesh DC is written by Deepak Raj Giri. ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ is produced by popular comedy serial ‘Tito Satya’ team comprising of Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula and Nirmal Sharma (Gaida). This is the sixth movie of Nirmal Sharma, whose all previous movies had flopped.

Big films testing their luck this Friday

After a couple of weeks without any new releases, Nepali film makers are releasing four new movies on January 10. At least, three out of the four movies are considered big names in the Nepali movie industry.

 

The movie ‘Biteka Pal’ by noted director of successful movies like ‘Bato Muniko Phool’ and ‘Sayaad’, Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’ is known to make good movies. Although his last movie ‘Facebook’ didn’t do well, the current release has created a buzz before the release. In addition to a good director, the movie also features new and talented actors like Keki Adhikari and Baboo Bogati in leading roles. Keki Adhikari was highly appreciated by the audience during the premier show of the movie on the last week of 2013. The songs of the movie are also liked by the public.

‘Chha Ekan Chha’ movie team are currently promoting the movie by doing different promotional activities. Recently the team was seen distributing jackets to street children. Considering the hardship of the street children during the cold days, the movie team distributed jackets with the films’ name written on them.

The artists present during the distribution of jackets include Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula, Sitaram Kattel (Dhrumus), Nirmal Sharma (Gaida) and Kabita Sharma.
