5 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha as a Nepali movie producer was first published on Feb 9, 2014. I have re-written the post and updated with one more milestone added at the end. So, it has now become “6 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha”.
In 2040 BS Chhabi Raj Ojha started the distribution of Hindi movie. Originally from Dharan, Chhabi moved to Kathmandu to start film distribution. The first Nepali movie he distributed was ‘Bhagya Rekha’ – a movie produced by Chiranjivi Basnet and directed by Deepak Rayamajhi. At that time, he had also gone to Madras for the post production of the movie. Although the movie wasn’t successful commercially, it taught Chhabi the film business. The failure of ‘Bhagyarekha’ prompted Chhabi to find out the reason the movie wasn’t successful. After analysis of the cause and the solution, Chhabi proposed a new concept to the director Deepak Rayamajhi and he also promised to finance the movie.
Updated video on Chhabi’s milestones:
Producer Chhabi Raj Ojha’s film production milestones:
Milestone 1 -Yug Dekhi Yug Samma
The movie ‘Yug Dekha Yug Samma’ marks the debut of Chhabi as a producer. The movie was also the debut movie of Rajesh Hamal and action director Rajendra Khadgi. All three new faces in the film industry – Chhabi Raj Ojha, Rajesh Hamal and Rajendra Khadgi made it big in the Nepali movie industry.
The directorial debut of actress Rekha Thapa and debut of disabled actor Sudarshan Gautam as an actor, ‘Himmatwali‘ was released on Fulpati, at the time of the biggest festival of Nepal, Dashain.
The movie is produced by Rekha’s mother Saraswati Thapa and is released under Rekha Films banner. The movie features Rekha Thapa and Sudarshan Gautam in lead roles. Other actors include Abhaya Chand and Puskar Bhatta. The movie features the action of Chandra Pant, music of Basanta Sapkota and Tanka Budhathoki, cinematography of Ramsharan Upreti and choreography of Basanta Shrestha and Kamal Rai.
The release on Wednesday, against the usual practice of releasing new Nepali movie on Fridays, created a lot of controversies. Rekha ignored the government order. As a result Rekha and her production company Rekha Films were suspended from the Film Producers Association.
The trailer of Chhabi Raj Films’ movie ‘Lazza’ was released few days after the release of trailer of Rekha Films’ movie ‘Himmatwali’. Although they are not directly competing with each other, Chhabi Raj Ojha and Rekha Thapa have been indirect rivals after their divorce.
We compared two trailers and found that they are quite different trailers. We want to leave the decision to you to conclude which one seems like a better movie.
‘Ajambari Nata’ is a presentation of Shyma Sundar Khetan for Rekha Films. The movie is made on the story of producer Chhabi Raj Ojha. Maunata Shrestha has written the script and dialogue of the movie. Actress Neeta Dhungana is featured as a child artist in the movie.
It’s not only for the best movies or the best actors the movie award will be presented, this year’s Box Office Film Award will also be awarded to the worst movie and worst actors.
In a program to unveil the top-5 nominations for the award, the chief of the organizer, Box Office Film Club, RK Subedi told that the award ceremony will be held on Chaitra 29 at Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu. The chief guest of the ceremony will be the prime minister Sushil Koirala.
UPDATE– Shyam Bhattarai is no longer in Rekha Thapa’s Facebook friend-list. (The title of this post is changed to reflect the information.)
Actress Rekha Thapa was forced to start directing her upcoming movie when the director Shyam Bhattarai becomes sick. Rekha relieved Shyam of his directing job so that he could recover and took over the direction of ‘Himmatwali’ herself. In his Facebook post, Shyam has thanked Rekha for letting him go and also appreciated Rekha’s ex-husband for being ‘such a great’ film maker.
Shyam posting his photo with Chhabi after losing Rekha’s job sounds fishy. There is no doubt Chhabi Raj Ojha is a great film maker but, the timing doesn’t sound right. We have asked Shyam for the clarification on the case and will update the post when he replies.
The shooting of an upcoming movie of Rekha Films, ‘Himmatwali’ has started in Mahendranagar on Shivaratri day. Rekha Thapa performed chasing stunts in horseback on the first day of shooting.
The movie is being directed by Shyam Bhattarai and is being cinematographed by Ramsharan Upreti. Rekha is also introducing a new actor in the movie, most probably the disabled climber Sudarshan Gautam.

The release of Rekha Thapa‘s latest movie ‘Kali‘ posed a lot of threats. Some threats Rekha might have felt are:
It was the first movie she had produced alone. All of Rekha Film’s previous movie were produced by Chhabi Raj Ojha.
While Rekha was busy in ‘Kali’, Chhabi was producing his own ‘Loafer’. The media had termed the ‘Loafer’ actress Rajani KC the new Rekha. Some even speculated Chhabi marrying Rajani.
The release date of ‘Loafer’ and ‘Kali’ was set on the same date – Fulpati of Dashain.
These issueses led Rekha to approach Chhabi (or, the other way around) to let Chhabi distribute ‘Kali’. That saved Rekha from a tough competition. But, it also created another problem. The distributors Rekha had previously promised for the distribution of the movie got angered by the Rekha and Chhabi team. They found another movie featuring Rekha to release on the same date as ‘Kali’
The Bhojpuri movie ‘Damani’ was a hit movie in Bhojpuri and it features Rekha in a guest role. The distributors, decided to highlight Rekha and release the movie to take away ‘Kali’ viewers.
Although Rekha’s ‘Kali’ was saved from the competition of Chhabi’s movie ‘Loafer’ it’s couldn’t escape from herself in ‘Damini’. The publicity of the movie paid off and ‘Kali’ remained in theater for more than two weeks.
Actress and producer Rekha Thapa has announced the release date of her upcoming movie ‘Kali’ on Dashain, Fulpati day, Ashoj 25 (October 11, 2013). The day coincides with the release date of her ex-husband Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s production ‘Loafer’.
After Rekha and Chhabi divorced, Chhabi registered Chhabi Raj Films and produced the first movie ‘Hamesha’ in association with Rekha’s Rekha Films. But, in his second movie – ‘Loafer’, Chhabi introduced a new actress, Rajani KC in the leading role. Rekha also started ‘Kali’ on her own to compete with Chhabi.
Rekha Thapa’s upcoming movie ‘Hamesha’ is scheduled to release on April 12, 2013. The movie, currently in post-production, is directed by Sabir Shrestha and is produced by Chhabi raj Ojha/Dijendra Shakya.
To dilute the effects of the divorce rumor between actress Rekha Thapa and producer Chhabi Raj Ojha, Chhabi posted some photos of the two together in his Facebook. The photos were taken during the shooting of their upcoming project ‘Hamesha’ which is being produced under Chhabiraj Films, in contrast to the previous films that used to be made under Rekha Films. Chhabi registered the company after the widespread news about their divorce.
Actress Rekha Thapa has recently visited young astrologer Harihar Adhikari. The astrologer known in the celebrity circle has been suggesting Nepali artists in their personal issues.
After the problem in her married life, Rekha had wanted to enter into politics. She met the prime minister and CPNU Maoist chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal but, her desire to be appointed in the president of Film Development Board wasn’t successful.
In the meeting with Harihar, Rekha had reportedly asked about the reason in
the problem in her relationship with Chhabi Ojha. She also asked if she can marry again. Rekha had also asked about her political future.
