The 19 year-old Miss Global 2011, Lama, received Rs. 30,000 in cash, a Scooty and a scholarship of $700 to study in foreign country. The first runner-up received Rs. 20,000 in cash, and a scholarship of $500 to study in foreign country. Second runner-up Tripti received a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and a scholarship of $200 to study in foreign country.

Miss Global started last year awarding the crown to Selina Moktan as the first Miss Global 2010. Last year the crown winner had received a Lifan motorbike and a cash prize. The contest was organized by Model Global Visas.

Foreign study scholarship is a new and controversial prize given to any beauty contest winner. Such a prize give some wrong impression to the youth in the country like:

  • Everybody should go to a foreign country for further study.
  • Higher education in Nepal is not good
  • A foreign study is very cheap (But, a scholarship of $700 won’t even pay a month’s rents in most of the western world)

Best wishes of Rekha, Rejina and Richa to Pregnant actresses Sanchita and Arunima

In Nepal, pregnant women are fed beaten rice and yogurt (Dahi Chiura) to wish for the health of the mother and the unborn child. Three of the Nepali actresses, Rekha Thapa, Rejina Upreti, and Richa Ghimire gathered in an event organized at Arunima Lamsal‘s home in Kapan Kathmandu. They also invited another pregnant actress Sanchita Luitel in the ceremony.

Grand Music Festival 2011 gone bad

This music festival was told to be grand in the history of Nepali music by the organizers.

  • First grand Music Festival with 16 artists in a single location
  • Two helicopters used to transport the artists
  • Ticket rate Rs. 150 and include a noodle, a juice, and a NTC discount of Rs. 50 (dirt cheap)

First, there weren’t many listeners. The area looked empty during the concert. The singers were also disappointed by the small number of people in the audience. Apart from less ticket sales, one another reason for the small crowd size is the relative size of Tundikhel area. I think, it is a huge area, only suitable for political meets where people can come and ‘have fun’ for free.
