The movie by another muslim producer and director Hassan Raja Khan, the love story movie was released on Holi of 2019. This is also a comeback movie of Melina Manandhar after leaving the film industry for a while. The movie features Nisha and Oshima in leading roles too. The movie was released in 2017 in theatre. The movie features three Juilets while, Hassan is featured as Romeo.

The superhit movie of the past is a presentation of Sudan KC. Featuring Bhuwan KC and Melina in leading role, the film also features Jharana Thapa. The movie is the first film produced under the banner of Shankhadevi Cine Arts, produced jointly by Sudan KC and Sanat Kumar Joshi. Shailesh Acharya and Naresh Poudel are the guest artists in the movie. The child artists are Rojina Ghale and Ayushma Shrestha. Sudan KC and Jharana Rajbhandari are the new face in the movie. On November 10, 2017 four new Nepali movies have released in theatre. It is a very competitive release for some of the highly expected movies in the film industry. All single word named movies – ‘Meela’, ‘Tyandro’, ‘Sakash’ and ‘Romeo’ will sustain a damage because of the competition among each other. About ‘Chhoro’
The word Chhoro in Nepali is a son. The 1996 release movie about a son is produced by Khusbu Films and is presented by Ganesh Upreti. The story of the movie is written by the director, Ramesh Budhathoki. The chief Assistant director is Nilhari Kafle and assistant director is Mahendra Budhathoki. The chief assistant cinematographers are Deepak Bajracharya and Kumar Bakhati. Assistant choreographer is Pradip Shrestha and assistant editor is Tara Thapa. The movie features Ganesh Upreti in leading role. Well known actresses Bipana and Melina are the lead actresses. Bipana Thapa is currently living in India and has left the film industry after marrying an Indian national. Melina Manandhar is also not active in the film industry after marriage. Maato Controversy – In the beginning, actor Nikhil Upreti had agreed to do the movie. But, in 2009, when Nikhil Upreti eloped with Sanchita Luitel and didn’t show up in the shooting, the film makers had to convince Rajesh Hamal to do Nikhil’s role (read my 2010 report). Rejina Upreti is featured in an action role in the movie (see MoviesNepal report). I don’t have the exact release date of the movie but, the shooting was going on in June of 2010.
Hassan Raza Khan has formally announced his upcoming movie ‘Romeo’ in a program held in Kathmandu. Although it was informally announced during his birthday in February, it took a while to finalize the artists and the start of the movie. The name of the movie ‘Romeo’ and one of the actresses, Oshima Banu were announced in February of 2016. In addition to Oshima Banu two more actresses were announced in the formal announcement.

The roles of the actors in the movie are kept secret, but they are likely to be featured as the Juliets of the lead character who is probably named Romeo – after the name of the movie. Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.
Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)
After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses. The greatest festival of women, Teej, is mostly a musical festival. The women wear attractive jewelries and clothes in red and dance to the songs composed specifically for the festival. Because of the commercial value of the songs, a lot of new songs are produced this year. It is surprising that the movie actresses have modeled in a lot of those movies.
