Rekha Thapa to visit USA, showing 'Lanka' in Qatar

Actress Rekha Thapa had been quite busy lately. She was recently in Dubai to take two awards of being the best actress and then went back to Nepal to receive another award of being the best actress. She is currently in Qatar to show her latest movie ‘Lanka’.

In a latest report, after she returns from Qatar, her next destination is going to be the USA.

According to DC Nepal, Rekha has already got the US visa and she will participate in various programs in the US while screening ‘Lanka’ to the Nepali living in the US.

Four movies releasing this week

This week, on December 14, 2012 four Nepali movies are releasing in the theaters. Movies ‘Shyana’ and ‘Karbhahi’ are releasing all over Nepal, ‘Bhul Bhaya Maaf Gara’ is releasing in Kathmandu after it’s 2-years-old release in theaters out of Kathmandu. ‘Love You Man’ is releasing in the theaters out of Kathmandu.

SP Movie Maker’s ‘Shyana’ is directed by Sameer Miya and produced by Suraj Pradhan. The movie made on love story features actor Prasant Giri, Khusbu Khadga, Saloni Gurung, and Madan Shrestha in main roles. The movie was shot in various locations in Pa
lpa, Lumbini, Narayangad and Kathmandu. The movie features the cinematography of Binod Sapkota, choreography of Ratna Joshi and Suresh Chaudahri. The special effects in the movie is also told to be unique and interesting.

Audition of Miss Tamusyo 2069 started in Pokhara

Miss Tamusyo 2069, a beauty contest among Tamu women is going to be held in Pokhara by the Council House of Tamu Students’ Nepal, Pokhara later this year. In a press meet held in Pokhara the organizers announced the start of the audition of the beauty contest.

The requirements for the participation in Miss Tamusyo 2069 are:

  • Age between 16 and 24
  • Height at least 5′ 2"
  • Unmarried woman
  • Education – at least SLC passed

Poster of Badhshala released on Intl Human Rights day

On the occasion of the International Human Rights day (December 10, 2012), the poster of an upcoming movie ‘Badhshala’ was released in Kathmandu. ‘Badhshala’ is told to be made on the story of the abuse of human rights. The poster also features a character ready to be tortured in a room that looks like a windows less army/police torture room.

Saroj Khanal in Nepal to promote 'Manav'

To promote his comeback movie ‘Manav’, Saroj Khanal is currently in Nepal. He had stopped doing films after he moved out of Nepal and started living in the US for the last fourteen years.

Saroj has reached his home in Chitwan and will start the promotion from his home district. The producer of the movie Kumar Acharya is planning the promotion to start from Wednesday (Dec 13).

‘Rakshya’ poster changed after Poojana objected

The first look poster of ‘Rakshya’ was promptly changed after Poojana Pradhan objected on her photo being without clothes on the poster. The new poster is similar except Poojana has a garment wrapped around her torso.

By the instant change of the poster it seems, the designer was expecting the objection from Poojana and was well prepared to change the poster. In the online world, it is not easy to replace a poster by another as both will continue to
circulate.

'Soongava' premiered in KIMFF

On the last day of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) 2012 Nepali movie ‘Soongava – Dance of the Orchids’ was premiered (Nepal premier) amongst various film and fashion personalities. The red carpet event was held in City Hall Kathmandu. The Subarna Thapa’s movie features actresses Diya Maskey and Nisha Adhikari in lead roles as lesbian lovers. The movie was previously named ‘Snow Flowers‘ and was released as ‘Soongava’.

‘Soongava’ will be released in theaters on Poush 20 (January 4, 2013). In addition to Nisha and Diya the also movie features Saugat Malla, Basundhara Bhusal, Sarita Giri, and Menuka Pradhan in main roles.    Continue reading

Manisha Koirala’s cancer surgery done in New York

Actress Manisha Koirala has undergone a surgery in a cancer hospital in New York. The surgery started after 5:00 PM local time and lasted for more than 6 hours.

It is reported that a  gynecologic/female genital tract surgeon who had operated Manisha had told that a successful operation takes 5-6 hours. As of the time of this writing, Manisha is in recovery room and her family members are waiting to see her.

4th Digital Film Award held in Kathmandu

A Nepali film award ceremony, 4th Filmykhabar Digital Film Award, organized by Chhaya Chhabi Creation, was held in Kathmandu on December 9, 2012. The best actor and best actress awards were handed over to Saugat Malla (for ‘Loot‘) and Rekha Thapa (for ‘Andaaz‘) respectively. Rekha’s ‘Andaaz’ was declared the best movie this year.

Other winners include Best Director – Ujjwal Ghimire for ‘Andaaz’, Best new actress – Binita Baral for ‘Chapali Height‘, Best New Actor – Samyam Puri for ‘Saayad‘. We will post the full list of winners in a separate post.

Rekha Thapa wins best actress award, again

Shiva Shrestha won the Lifetime Achievement Award

Actress Rekha Thapa was awarded the best actress award for her role in ‘Kasle Choryo Mero Man’ in Box Office Film Award 2069, held on Friday December 7, 2012 in Dubai. Rekha was also the best actress in Viewer’s Choice. Among actors, won the Viewer’s Choice award and Aryan Sigdel won the best actor award. Producer Chhabi Raj Ojha was awarded the viewer’s choice award (producer). The best movie was declared to be ‘Bato Muni Ko Phool’. Best movie in Viewer’s Choice category was ‘First Love’. The best director award was awarded to Suraj Subba for ‘Bato Muni Ko Phool’. In the event, awards in 31 different categories were awarded.

Actor Shiva Shrestha was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other actors honored during the ceremony include actor Bhuwan KC, Suman Singh, Mohankrishna Shrestha, Madhukar Shrestha, and Sunil Manandhar.

Miss Rajbanshi 2012 is Rebika Rajbanshi

Beauty contest among Rajbanshi beauties was held on December 8, 2012, in Biratnagar. In the event, Miss Rajbanshi 2012crown was awarded to Rebika Rajbanshi of Panchgachi, Jhapa.

In the contest, Sapana Rajbanshi was awarded the runner-up and Usha Rajbanshi was the second runner-up of the contest. The title winner received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, the first runner-up received Rs. 15,000 and the second runner-up was awarded Rs. 10,000.

Binita Baral doing an unnamed movie

After her second movie ‘Full Stop’ couldn’t do the business as expected, Binita Baral was rumored to have been job-less. But, it seems, she was secretly shooting a movie. The unnamed movie written by Binita herself is being directed jointly by Niranjan Pandey and Shaurav Dhakal.

 

Apart from Binita no other actors in the movie are known. Other characters in the ‘experimental’ movie are expected to be new faces. The shooting of the movie is expected to be finished in a few days and is expected to release in theater in Baisakh (
April / May 2013).

KIMFF starting on Dec 7, 'Soongava' to be premiered

The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) 2012 is being organized from December 7 to December 11, 2012 in  City Hall (Rastriya Sabha Griha) / Nepal Tourism Board.  The festival will showcase more than 60 films from 28 countries in the world. The films include documentaries, fiction, short-films, animation, and experimental films. The event features interactive discussions, photography and alternative book exhibitions, and documentary workshop.

The ticket price of the festival is Rs. 50 per scree
ning (students pay half the price at Rs. 25 per screening). The tickets are available at the venue. One of the attraction of the festival is the Nepal premier of the first lesbian Nepali movie ‘Soongava: dance of the orchids’ by Subarna Thapa.
