Keki and Nandita performed in Miss Nepal US 2015 beauty contest in New York

The fifth edition of Miss Nepal US was held in New York among a huge crowd of Nepali living in the USA. Two Nepali actresses, Keki Adhikari and Nandita KC had also performed in the event. Actress Manisha Koirala was also present in the event. Other bollywood actors and Nepali actors like Sunil Thapa were also present in the event. Most of these film artists were in the USA to participate in FOG festival in California, held earlier.

Priyanka Thapaliya, a resident of North Carolina, has wont this years Miss Nepal US title. Kaushila Lama and Neha Jha have won the first and second runner up titles respectively. The winners were selected from the pool of ten finalists of the contest.

Sunil Thapa awarded lifetime achievement awards at FOG, USA (photos)

Nepali actor Sunil Thapa was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award at the FOG awards held on August 15 at San Francisco, USA. Thapa was one of the five recipients of the awards including Jackie Chan, Kieu Chinh, Bappi Lahari and Matin Sheen.

Keki Adhikari flies to the USA

Actress Keki Adhikari, director Suresh Darpan Pokharel have gone to he USA to participate in the Festival of Globe (FOG) or San Francisco Global Movie Fest. Actresses Poozana Pradhan (Poojana Pradhan) and Nandita KC are also going to participate in the festival. Poozana is currently in Hong Kong and Nandita is already in the USA.

According to the organizer’s website Nepali participants in the festival are Nandita KC, Suman Bista, Keki, and Poozana. The narrative feature films participating in the festival from Nepal include ‘Tulsi’ and ‘Chocolate’. Narrative short films include ‘Sacrifice Never Die’, ‘Tata Bye Bye’ and ‘Tulsi’.

Nepali movie ‘Thulo Manche’ is a presentation of Pradeep Media in association with United Multi Arts.  The movie was released on May 16, 2014 in theaters all over Nepal. Actress Keki Adhikari is in a special appearance in the movie. The cinematographers of the moive are Sandeep Shrestha, Santosh Karki and Niroj Shrestha. The movie is produced by Pramod Subba ‘Khajum’. The editor is Mitra D. Gurung and the director, Prashant, has written the story and the script of the movie.

Temporary residences named after movies

The temporary residences constructed by the help of Nepali film artists at Rampur Danda of Kabhrepalanchowk are handed over to the locals. The earthquake had destroyed about 40 houses in the area. On May 20 a group of Nepali film artists handed over the houses, named after popular Nepali movies, to the owners.

The team led by Suresh Darpan Pokharel in association of actress Keki Adhikari had constructed all 40 temporary residences in the last four days. The volunteer artists include Benisha Hamal, Surekshya Pant, Melina Manandhar, Barsha Siwakoti, Nandita KC, Dilip Rayamajhi, Jiwan Luitel, Anmol KC, Yashraj, Swotantra Pratap Shah and musician Basanta Sapkota had supported by volunteering and providing the financial resources to help in the construction of the buildings.

All the 40 houses are named after Nepali films including the first Nepali movie ‘Aama’ (watch ‘Aama’ here) to the relatively new movie ‘Sano Sansar’ (watch ‘Sano Sansar’ here). The naming of the house didn’t have any relationship to the producers of the movies.

Nepali film artists build temporary residences

With the help of earthquake victims, a small team of Nepali artists have constructed a number of temporary cylindrical residences. The artist team had constructed 5 residences on the first day and 15 residences on the second day. The artists have formed a team of We For All and the residences are being constructed under Project Roof.

So far, plastic tents and plastic sheets were being distributed to the earthquake victims for temporary residence. As monsoon approaches, such residences wont be sufficient to withstand the rain. The voluenter artists of the second day were Nandita KC, Keki Adhikari, Suresh Darpan Pokharel, Benisha Hamal and dress designer April Shrestha.

Nawal Nepal features Keki and Sabin in Bhaag Saani Bhaag

Director Nawal Nepal has announced a new movie titled ‘Bhaag Saani Bhaag’ in a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, March 19. Noted musician Chetan Sapkota is debuting as a film producer in the movie.

The female oriented movie will revolve around the the character Saani, played by actress Keki Adhikari. Actor Sabin Shrestha will be featured opposite to Keki in the movie and other supporting actors in the movie include Nir Shah, Laya Sangarula, Geeta Adhikari, Rabindra Khadka, and Bishnu Sapkota.

Friday Release – Bhhimdatta, Zhigrana and Punarjanma

This Friday, three more Nepali movies are being released in theater. A historical bio-pic ‘Bhhimdutta’, a suspense thriller ‘Zhigrana’ and a social drama film ‘Punarjanma’ are releasing in theaters all over Nepal. All three movies are considered movies with potential.

The movies are targeted to different audiences. ‘Bhimdatta’ is targeted to audience interested in political issues and historical events. The movie got an ‘UA’ certificate. ‘Zhigrana’ got an ‘A’ certificate and is targeted to the viewers interested in suspense and thriller in movies. ‘Punarjanma’ is suitable for all types of audience with an ‘U’ certificate. The movie appeals to the viewers who like family drama.

Punarjanma got an U certificate, releasing this week

The movie releasing this week on Friday, ‘Punarjanma’ was awarded an ‘U’ certificate by the Censor Board. The Board has asked the film makers to remove the scene of a traffic police being bribed.

Punarjanma, a film based on real events, to release on March 6

The directorial debut of the director Sajan Shrestha, Nepali movie ‘Punarjanma’ is scheduled to release in theater on March 6, 2015. In a press meet held in Kathmandu on February 10 the film production team informed the press about the content of the film and why the viewers would like to watch the movie.

Two new Nepali movies are releasing on the Friday, January 2, 2015 – ‘Zindagi Rocks’ and ‘My Promise’. Both movies are targeted to the new generation youths.

A movie made on the story of a group of youths in a holiday trip and their adventure is ‘Zindagi Rocks’. The movie directed by Nikesh Khadka is a love story movie dealing with friendship, relationships with comedy. The movie features Somraj Tuladhar, Akesha Bista and SonamPakhrin in lead roles.

Movie Review – Shree 5 Ambare

‘Shree 5 Ambare’ is a movie featuring Saugat Malla, Keki Adhikari, Bikram Singh, Priyanka Karki and Yama Buddha in main roles. The movie is directed by ‘Antaral’ famed director, Dipa Basnet and produced under her own home production, Jibansathi Films. The movie features the cinematography of Ganesh Kumar Shrestha, story of Abhimanyo Nirabi, editing of Chandan Dutt and concept and casting by Jibansathi Basnet.

The movie was released on November 21 with another movie ‘Humjayega’.

Story

The story of the movie is about the life of street children – commonly known as ‘khate’ kids. The life in street is not fun but, Ambar (Saugat Malla) and Kali (Keki Adhikari) meet and fell in love in their childhood on street. Ambar is left along in the street when Kali is taken away by a guy. She became a prostitute and lived a comfortable life while Ambar nourished his desire to become a king in the society.

Kamana Film Awards – Mahasush wins the most awards

The first CG Kamana Film Awards was announced in a program held on December 1, 2014 in Kathmandu.
