After Rekha, the runner-up of the Controversy Queen 2069 is Sumina Ghimire. She jumped into the next-to-the-top position in the last days of the year when she let her anger rule in a telephone conversation with a journalist. None other than Sushma Karki took the second runner-up title with numerous controversies involving directors and boy friends.

Let’s only talk about the winner, Rekha Thapa:

The year started with the divorce rumor and confirmation by both Rekha and Chhabi Raj although no legal confirmation was publicized. When Chhabi registered Chhabi Raj Films, the divorce was considered confirmed. After being single, Rekha discussed the possibility of her career in politics with an astrologer. Her attempt to get herself appointed as the head of Film Development Board might have been according to the suggestion of the astrologer. But, when the political lobbying didn’t work, she went to USA in a month-long tour.

Rekha Thapa supports Sumina Ghimire on phone scandal

UPDATE: In response to this article, Rekha has stated that the statement wasn’t made on anybody’s support or protest.

Nepali actress Rekha Thapa has supported Sumina Ghimire and accused the journalists at onlinekhabar of creating such an environment. She accused journalists being irresponsible to the private lives of actresses and causing unnecessary tension.

In a page-long statement titled ‘We artists aren’t robots’, Rekha had quoted the incidents of the death of actress Shrisha Karki and actress Jesika Khadka (Jyoti Khadka). She also accused journalist of focusing on Namrata Shrestha on the case of the release of her sex video and not talking about the male involved in the video.

In a few of the recent incidents it is seen that, Nepali actresses are the most irresponsible people in the film industry. Ethics and responsibilities are tied with their professionalism. Let’s analyze some of the recent incidents involving Nepali actresses:

Sumina Ghimire threat

The most recent incident, actress Sumina Ghimire threatened a journalist in a very unprofessional way. She could have sent the same message more effectively by stating it in a diplomatic manner. After the release of the audio of her communication with the journalist, Sumina has shown how low she can stoop. It won’t be easy for Sumina to regain her popularity and respect in the film community.

Actress Jharana Thapa is one of the most successful actresses in the industry. In a latest photo released in her Facebook profile Jharana is seen enjoying Hukkah (Shisha) and blowing smoke in a restaurant in Kathmandu. Smoking is a personal choice but, advertising it by publicizing the photo in public is considered unprofessional. Public usually consider celebrities as their role models and some blindly copy everything their favorite celebrities do.

Sumina Ghimire going through a bad time

Actress Sumina Ghimire was successful in raising to fame in a short time. She got opportunities in a lot of movies but, none of the movies could be commercially successful. The viewers haven’t liked Sumina’s latest release, ‘9 O’clock’ in which, she is featured in a hot role.

With these failures, Sumina should be having her worst time in the movie industry. That might be the reason, Sumina threatened a journalist on writing her failures in movies. An online journalist Bijaya Awaj received a hateful call from the actress in which she told that she couldn’t write bad things about her and she also threatened the journalist.

9 O’clock premiered – releasing on 29 March

A premier show of movie ‘9o’clock’ was organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, a day before it’s official release. Journalists and film industry personals were invited to watch the movie.

The movie is made on the story of a person who thinks money is everything in life. In spite of the projection of the movie as a sex-oriented movie, the movie didn’t have much sex contents.

Sumina Ghimire borrows Rajesh Hamal statement – says she is not virgin

Nepali film magazine ‘Kamana’ has published a cover story about Nepali actress Sumina Ghimire in which she says – although she is unmarried she isn’t a virgin girl. If it weren’t Nepal (or South Asia, for that matter), the statement wouldn’t be of any surprise. We should appreciate Sumina’s courage to tell the truth. Similar statement of unmarried Nepali actor was much talked about in the past.

In the lights of rumors and events about her close relationships with the producers of her movies, the statement might not be of any surprise to many. But, such a public statement by any Nepali actresses about their out-of-marriage sexual relationship is rare in Nepali movie industry.

Uncertainty in the release of Timro Lagi, Padmini and Samaya

Due to the hunger strike and protest of film artists, the release of new movies are uncertain. The movies scheduled to release on February 1 are Arun Khadka’s ‘Timro Lagi’, Mausami Malla‘s ‘Samaya’ and Basanta Kumar Shrestha’s ‘Padmini’.

Mausami had previously clarified that the movie release will be postponed if the protest didn’t end by the release date. ‘Samaya’ is the debut movie of Mausami’s son Vicky Malla and the actress Surabhi Bista.

In an effort to lock down the Film Development Board (FDB), the police has arrested 30 film artists on Thursday, January 17. When the police removed the lock the protesting film artists installed on January 9, they had gathered up at the FDB office to lock it down again.

9 O’clock to be premiered in Doha on the New Year, 2013

On the occasion of new year, Nepali movie “9 O’clock” is going to be premiered in Doha, Qatar. Aryan films presentation “9 O’clock” is produced by Ramesh Sambedana and directed by Baburam Dhakal.

The movie was dragged  into controversy when the FDB refused to let it go on floor because of unacceptable script. That was not all, the movie was previously called ‘A69’ and when the name was linked to sex position, it was renamed by a less-suggestive name. But, now it
has passed all hurdles and all set to release.

9 O'clock audio released, movie made on a sex-centered story

The audio of the movie ‘9 O’clock’ was released in a program in Kathmandu on Dec 16. The audio was launched by poet Usha Sherchan, actress Sumina Ghimire and the director Baburam Dhakal. Three songs in the movie are sung by singers Rajesh Payal Rai, Rajina Rimal, Indira Joshi and Shiva Pariyar.

The movie had been controversial from the start because of sex content in the movie. The script of the movie was accused to be vulgar by the FDB. Previous named ‘a 69’, the movie was renamed later to sound like a decent movie.

During the music launch the director Baburam Dhakal told, although the movie is sex-centered but, it doesn’t have sex-scenes as rumored. The actress Sumina Ghimire tried to dilute the sex issue by telling she would prefer to watch the first show of the movie with her family.
