4 young women that made a difference – Rojisha, Shova Sharma, Palsang Lama and Nikita

Well known writer Buddhisagar wrote in Twitter – “This week three young women of the new generation impressed me big time. Shova Sharma in writing, Rojisha Shahi in acting, Palsang Lama in music. Best wishes for the new heights.” (that was my rough translation of the Nepali text, attached at the end.)

In that list, I would like to add one more beauty – the Miss Nepal 2017, Nikita Chandak. I believe, she represent a whole new community and a diversion from the Kathmandu-centric Miss Nepal of the past. Let me introduce these four young women:

I know Rojisha Shahi:

  • A new height in the film industry (height in literal sense, she sure is tall)
  • Intelligent (it takes some of that to win the Miss Nepal Earth 2013 title) and
  • A new promising actress who debuted in Richa Sharma’s movie ‘Aadha Love’. One more promising movie of the actress ‘Gangster Blues’ is coming soon. ‘Gangster Blues’ is the movie by superhit director of ‘Jerryy’ and ‘Hostel’, Hemraj BC. The actress of ‘Jerryy’, Anna Sharma is also making comeback in the movie.

Biography of Sher Bahadur Deuba, the 40th prime minister of Nepal

I have prepared a biography video of the prime minister of Nepal. Starting this week, I am planning to produce a biography video of a celebrity every week and publish on Sunday. There will be 52 biographies in a year. This week’s biography is of the new prime minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba. Watch the video first before reading the details of his life:

Who is Sher Bahadur Deuba?

From a simple family of a village in Dadeldhura, Sher Bahadur Deuba is one of the major political personality in Nepal. He started his political career as a student leader. In the start, Nepali Congress leader, BP Koirala, had supported Deuba in the party. After BP’s death Nepali Congress was led jointly by Ganesh Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Girija Prasad Koirala. After the death of Ganesh Man and Krishna Prasad, Girija was the sole leader of the party. The only leader in the party to challenge Girija was Deuba. He managed to become Prime Minister despite Girija Prasad Koirala. It is believed that Girija was one of the forces behind the impeachment of Deuba in his first tenure as the prime minister.

Happy 53rd Birthday Rajesh Hamal

Rajesh Hamal is celebrating his 53rd birthday on June 9, 2017. It has almost been three decades since Hamal started his acting career in ‘Yug Dekhi Yug Samma’. The debut movie of the producer, Chhabi Raj Ojha and directed by Hamal’s maternal uncle, Deepak Rayamajhi, the movie became a super hit movie. The success of the movie established Hamal as a credible actor.

Rajesh Hamal didn’t have his family’s support in the initial days of his acting career. As the film industry was also in its initial stage, no actors were professional actors in those days. Hamal says that the film industry grew with is filmy career. Watch an inspiring speech given by Hamal to the students in an Indian University a while ago:

Rajesh Hamal timeline

  • 1964 – Rajesh Hamal was born on June 9, 1964 in Palpa, Nepal. Hamal’s father was Chuda Bahadur Hamal and mother Renu Hamal.
  • Schooling in India, Pakistan and Russia (USSR at that time), and also studied in Nepal for a year at St Xavier’s School in grade eight.
  • 1985 – Modelled in Fashion Net, an Indian fashion magazine.
  • 1986 – Walked as a ramp model at Kathmandu and New Delhi in 1986
  • 1988 – Rajesh Hamal was initially signed in ‘Bhagya Rekha’. But, after shooting for a few days, he was replaced by another actor.
  • 1989 – Release of “Yug Dheki Yug Samma”, the debut movie of Rajesh Hamal.
  • 1994 – Most number of movies in a single year. 16 films featuring Rajesh Hamal were released in 1994. In other years he used to do 10-12 films in a year.
  • Rajesh Hamal’s favourite films are ‘Dewata’ and ‘Basanti’.
  • 2014 – Got married with Madhu Bhattarai. The marriage ceremony was held a few days before his 50th birthday.

Friday Release – Aadha Love and Laltin

Two new movies have released in theatre today, on June 9, 2017. The production debut of actress Richa Sharma, ‘Aadha Love’ and the movie featuring Daya Hang Rai and Priyanka Karki – ‘Lalteen’.

About ‘Laltin’

The featuring Dayahang Rai, Priyanka Karki, Arjun Jung Shahi, A Gurung, Raj Katuwal and Nirjan Thapa in main role, is about the conflict between people in search of power and materials. The movie directed by Dev Kumar Shresta is a crime story featuring the night life of Kathmandu. The movie marks the debut of Raj Katuwal and Nirjan Thapa in the Nepali film industry.

What is Rejina Upreti doing these days?

A controversial actress, Rejina Upreti, is not active in the film industry these days. She hasn’t signed in any movies after the failure of her production debut movie ‘Bardaan’. In the mean time, she got married to Suraj Pokharel and has been living as a housewife these days.

Rejina was in affair with Suraj Pokharel, a resident of UK, for some time until she got married in 2014. After a couple of years of the marriage, she gave birth to a daughter on November 21, 2016 (Read about the childbirth of Rejina Upreti). I had also prepared a video report of the news:

Now the child is seven months old. It seems Rejina is quite busy raising up the child and is not willing to comeback in the film industry.

Nikhil Upreti sister-in-law Shiwani Luitel to debut in Commitment 60 Hours

In the second directional venture of action star Nikhil Upreti, he is going to introduce a new actress. Shiwani Luitel, the sister of his wife, Sanchita Liutel, is going to romance with Nikhil in the movie. The movie titled ‘Commitment 60 Hours’ is going to feature Bollywood actors and is made on a story of bringing a girl from India to Nepal in a time span of 60 hours. The movie to be shot in Nepal, India, Thailand, Singapore and USA is expected to be made in a huge budget.

Is Miss Nepal an Indian? Nikita Chandak Biography

A professional model, Nikita Chandak, was crowned Miss Nepal 2017 in an event held on June 2 2017. There had been some online rumours that “Nikita doesn’t look like Nepali” or “she is an Indian.” But in reality, she is a hundred percent Nepali. Even before the finale, I thought she was the most suitable candidate to be crowned Miss Nepal. That was the reason I prepared her biography and told she was “deserving candidate.”

Why did I think Nikita Chandak was the most suitable candidate to be crowned Miss Nepal?

On analyzing the 19 contestants, I had guessed either Nikita Chandak or Niti Shah to be crowned Miss Nepal. That was why I prepared the biography videos of those two contestants. My guess was right, Nikita was crowned and Niti was crowned the Miss Nepal International.

My guess was not a mere guess – it was a “calculated guess”. I had evaluated their background and their personality and the strength of their desire to become Miss Nepal. A few days before the contest, Miss Nepal 2016, Asmi Shrestha, had expressed that Nikita Chandak stood out in a fashion show held in Kathmandu. When I looked at her background and personality, she seem to give off the confidence and the personality a Miss Nepal needs.

After Priyanka Karki stole her boyfriend, Paramita RL Rana is much active in singing and modeling

The actress of ‘Chapali Height 2’ and the ex-girlfriend of the actor Ayushman Desraj Shrestha – Paramita RL Rana has been quite active after the breakup. Rana is preparing to release two music albums in near future. In the weekend Paramita had also performed in a program held in Kathmandu.

At Karma Lounge, Tripuresowr Paramita had performed four of the songs from her upcoming albums. In her performance two rappers – Nasty and Vision had also supported her. Paramita has also written some of the songs in association with Nasty.

Paramita is planning to release two albums in August. The albums are titled ‘Royal’ and ‘Young King.

Friday Release – Jaalo and Rato Ghar (both Menuka Pradhan films)

On this Friday (June 2, 2017) two new Nepali movies were released – record breaking film ‘Jaalo’ and Takme Budha’s movie ‘Rato Ghar’. These two films are of different genres – one is a crime thriller and another is a comedy film. It is a coincidence that both the movies feature a common actress – Menuka Pradhan.

About ‘Rato Ghar’

The production debut of well known comedy actor, Wilson Bikram Rai (Takme Budha), ‘Rato Ghar’ is a comedy movie. The comedy movie made on a gangster story was premiered a day before release on Wednesday. Directed by Suraj Subba Nalbo features Wilson Bikram Rai, Samyam Puri, Gaurav Pahadi, Menuka Pradhan, Bibek Shrestha, Anurag Kunwar and Mala Limbu. The movie is produced jointly by Man Him Films and Tamke Production banners. The movie is presented by Nikesh Limbu and produced by Wilson Bikram Rai.

Why was a Korean Music video banned in South Korea? (Jyoti Magar videos are worse)

The girl band Dalshabet’s latest video ‘Hey Mr. Joker’ was banned in televisions across South Korea. The song starts as – “Hey Mr Joker, why are you shaking me up….”

The innocent sounding lyrics sounds quite different in the ears of the Korean audience.

In Korea, the word “joker” is written “조커,” and is pronounced “Joh-kuh.”

The word “joh” in Korean is a man’s penis. That is not all, “kuh” means ‘big’ in Korean.

Now, when the word together is no longer as innocent as it sounds. When the girls sing the lyrics “Joker, I want it, I am out of breath, baby good night,” it has a whole new meaning to the Korean audience.

With concerns of sexual references in its lyrics of the song, KBS has banned the song in Korea.

Top 5 nomination of 9th D Cine Award, Chhakka Panja nominated the most (Full List)

The Top 5 nominations for the 9th D Cine Award is scheduled to be held in Hetauda. Chhaya Chhabi Creation announced the award ceremony to be held on Ashad 22. The award is awarded to 55 applicant movies (total release number was 86 films) released in the year 2073.

There are 29 different categories of awards in the film award. The movie ‘Chhakka Panja’ was nominated in the most number of awards – 20 awards. The second most nominated movie was ‘Gajalu’, nominated in 13 categories. ‘Loot 2’ was nominated in 11 categories, ‘Jatra’ in 10 categories, ‘Purano Dunga’ in 9 categories, ‘Nirbhaya’ in 6 categories, ‘Junge’, ‘Ke Ma Timro Hoina Ra’ and ‘Darpan Chhaya -2’, ‘Kismat 2’ and Bir Bikram nominated in 5 categories.

Very inspiring farewell speech of Miss Nepal 2016, Asmi Shrestha (full text)

The outgoing Miss Nepal, Asmi Shrestha, gave a heart touching farewell speech during the finale of Miss Nepal 2017. I have transcribed the speech for those who would love to read it. Nikita Chandak was later crowned Miss Nepal 2017. The first runner up Rojina Shrestha was crowned Miss Nepal Earth, Niti Shah crowned Miss Nepal International and Sahara Basnet was crowned Miss Nepal Asia Pacific International crowns. The summary of Asmi Shrestha’s farewell speech (main points)

  • The most important thing she did as Miss Nepal was ‘Classroom and Beyond’ project. The project had helped her to be the top five in Miss World in the ‘Beauty with the Purpose’.
  • Meeting Nepali people in Nepal and abroad and feeling of the respect and love towards Miss Nepal title was heart touching to Asmi.
  • Before being Newar or Bahun or Chhetri or Rai or any other caste, the Miss Nepal crown holder is a Nepali. She asked everybody to treat as being Nepali rather than being of certain caste.
  • The crown had taught the crown holders to stay strong,  to believe in themselves, and keep their heads high. She also believed that it has also prepared them for the life that lies ahead of them.

Miss Nepal 2017 is Nikita Chandak. Rojina Shrestha, Niti Shah and Sahara Basnet runner ups

Well known model Nikita Chandak was crowned the new Miss Nepal – Miss Nepal 2017 in an event held in Kathmandu on Friday, June 2, 2017. A representative of Morang, Chandak was selected from the pool of 19 contestant. Miss Nepal 2016, Asmi Shrestha crowned the new Miss Nepal. In addition to winning the crown, Chandak also wan Miss Confident and Miss Popular Choice awards. After winning the crown, Nikita will represent Nepal in Miss World 2017 beauty contest.

The runner up, Rojina Shrestha, was crowned Miss Nepal Earth 2017. Rojina will represent Nepal in Miss Earth 2017.

The second runner up, Niti Shah, was crowned Mis Nepal International 2017. Niti will represent Nepal in Miss International 2017.

Friday the Jestha 19, the day of the Royal Massacre, Dipendra Sarkar announced

The ill-fated day was June 1, 2001 – Jestha 19, 2058, Friday – whole family of the King, Birendra, was killed in a party held in the Narayan Hiti Royal Palace. There are unanswered question about the mysterious incident.

  • The only immediate royal family member – Gyanendra Shah, Birendra’s brother was in Pokhara and was not invited in the party.
  • Gyanendra’s son and wife were at the party. But the son, Paras Shah, was unharmed. Gyanendra’s wife Komal Shah sustained a bullet wound.
  • Killed in the incident were the king Birendra, his wife queen Aishwarys, his sons Dipendra and Nirajan and the daughter Shruti all were killed.
  • Birendra’s another brother Dhirendra was also killed in the incident.
  • Dipendra who reportedly was drunk before the incident is accused of killing them all because of his affair with Divyani Rana.

The maker of ‘Prem Geet’ and ‘Prem Geet 2’, Santosh Sen has announced a new movie about the love story of Dipendra Shah. The love story is based on a book titled ‘Maile Dekheko Durbar’ by one of the army officers of the royal palace who had seen Dipendra grow up in front of him.
