NFDC National Award 2015, Nominations (full list)

The nomination for the third edition of NFDC Award has been released. In the nomination top five in each of 14 categories are released. The awards will be handed over in 20 categories. The nomination is prepared by a jury of four members from the movies released in the past one year.

The movies considered for the nomination include the movies censor cleared by the Censor Board from the first to the last day of 2071, and released in at least five different theaters. 

In the nomination movie ‘November Rain’ has received the most, 8 nominations including the Best Director and Best Movie. The nominations for the best movie are ‘Jerryy’ (watch ‘Jerry’ here), Kabaddi (watch ‘Kabaddi’ here), Nai Nabhannu La 3, ‘November Rain’ (watch ‘November Rain’ here) and ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’. The directors of these movies were also nominated for the Best Director award.

Film artists won by 3-0 in friendly football match for earthquake relief (photos)

The film artists and the politicians have teamed up to help the earthquake victims on Saturday  June 6, 2015. In the friendly football match held of the playground of armed police in Halchock, Kathmandu, the leader team lost by 3:0 to the film artists team.

The president Ram Baran Yadav had inaugurated the game. The politician team had the Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Prachanda, KP Oli, Baburam Bhattarai, Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and a lot of other leaders.

Shankar BC shooting unit escaped an Earthquake caused landslide in Chapali Height

In the worst ever earthquake in Nepal, more than 1,500 people have been reported dead so far. There is a high chance that the number increase significantly. There had been more than 20 aftershocks and more are a possibility. Shankar BC and the team were shooting a music video in Chapali Height area when the earthquake happened. The dancer and choreographer BC has shared the following photos of the landslide caused by the earthquake.

The landslide didn’t cause any damages to the shooting crews.

7.8 magnitude earthquake in Kathmandu (video)

There are conflicting reports of the magnitude of earthquake but, it is a very strong one. Most of the structures in Kathmandu have sustained damage by the earthquake. (UPDATE – The earthquake magnitude is 7.8 in Richter scale with huge amount of causality.)

People are warned to stay outdoors and remain calm as there might be more aftershocks. In a report, a 6.6-magnitude aftershock hit was hit after about an hour after the earthquake.

Miss Nepal 2015 is Evana Manandhar

The title of Miss Nepal this year goes to 23-years-old Evana Manandhar. In the event organized on April 18, 2015 in Hotel Annapurna, Miss Nepal 2014 Subin Limbu crowned the new Miss Nepal 2015 Evana Manandhar the Miss Nepal crown.

There were 19 contestants in the 20th edition of Miss Nepal. Organized by Hidden Treasure, the winner of the crown is awarded Rs. 100,000 in cash prize and an opportunity to participate in the Miss World 2015.

Miss Purwanchal 2015 is Priyanka Shrestha

18-years-old Priyanka Shrestha from Biratnagar, Priyanka Shrestha has won the Miss Purwanchal 2015 crown in the finale held in Dharan. In the event, Anu Rai, a 20-years old beauty of Dharan was crowned the first runner up and Pramisha Bajracharya of Damak, Jhapa was crowned the second runner up.

After winning the crown, Priyanka was awarded a scooty and an opportunity to travel to Hong Kong. In addition to the crown, Priyanka was also the Miss Public Choice. A student of Charter Accountant course, Priyanka is also appointed the ambassador of the Hotel Association of Bhedetar, Asara Sudhar Kendra and Budhasubba Gold Cup. Priyanka has told that she will devote her life in social work and promotion of tourism in the Eastern Nepal.

Namrata Shrestha, Manisha Koirala selected Best Dancer Nepal 2015

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, Nepali actress Namrata Shrestha and actor / director Nischal basnet were the the judges of the dance competition organized by Sushila Arts Academy. In the grand finale organized on April 3 in Russian Culture Center, the Best Dancer Nepal 2015 title was awarded to Jenisha Dangol.

In the event, Manisha was also honored by Guest of the Honor for accepting to be one of the judges of the competition. With Manisha, Namrata, Nischal, and Tata Motors country manager Hemanta Puranik were the judges of the competition in the finale.

The jury of the competition also included Mithila Sharma with Hemant Puranik.

Mala premier held, Priyanka scared of her own character

The movie to release this week on Friday, ‘Mala’ was premiered in Q’s Cinema Kathmandu on March 18. In the premier show held among film artists, journalists and guests. The viewers of the show include the actor Aryan Sigdel, actress Priyanka Karki and all the crew of the production team. 

Actress Priyanka is playing the leading character, Mala, in the movie. Priyanka sitting next to ex-Miss Nepal Malvika Subba was once scared of her own picturisation as the soul of the character she has played. She later confirmed that it was the first time she had actually seen the movie. In addition to Priyanka, other actresses were also scared by the movie. Actress Benisha Hamal, Nandita KC and choreographer Renasha Rai admitted being scared by the movie. Priyanka’s character is silent throughout the movie.

Sumina Ghimire marries her pilot boyfriend

Nepali actress Sumina Ghimire has married a pilot boyfriend, Rosha Sapkota in a program held in Kathmandu. In a not-so-publicized event, very few film industry personalities were invited and the event was kept within the friends and family circle. Well ahead of the marriage, there were rumors of the upcoming marriage but, no dates and details were revealed.

Sumina reportedly is retiring from the film industry. She had stopped signing any new films after the decision of marriage was made. Sumina’s movie ‘Bhimdatta’ was released on Friday. Sumina’s role and acting has been highly appreciated in the movie. Sumina’s next movie ‘Mala’ is going to release after a while.

Shah Rukh Khan arrives in Kathmandu

UPDATE: Although there was a press meet organized at the event, journalists were only allowed to ask two questions. In the meet, he remembered his last visit of Nepal, some 15/16 years ago. Previously Shah Rukh had planned to visit Nepal on Sunday, but because of the Turkish Airlines accident, his visit was delayed a day and he arrived on Monday. Khan inaugurated a environment friendly Facebook page of Nerolac paints, "You Can" and told that the five best plant-pot designed out of Nerolac paint cans will be awarded. *original post follows*:

Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan, has arrived in Kathmandu on March 9, 2015 at around 3:30 PM. Khan flew in his private jet to attend an event by Kansai Paints at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Khan is planning to return back to India after the event.

The tweet of Shah Rukh about his arrival in Kathmandu had received thousands of re-tweets.

Biraj Bhatt and Reema BK in Pune

The popular film artists of Nepal Biraj Bhatt and actress Reema Bishowkarma heated the Nepali audience in Pune in the occasion of Holi. In the musical event organized by the Nepali community in Pune, artists like Bhagirathi Chalaune, Kalpana Dahal, Sushmita Burlakoti, Hitesh Karmakar, Pamfa Dangol and other performed on the stage.

The dance of Biraj Bhatt with Reema BK was specially a hit number because of it being interesting and provocative in nature.

Tito Satya Meri Bassai Sanjh event in Australia postponed to March 19

The accident of Turkish Airlines in Tribhuvan International Airport caused extensive delay in the flight in and out of Kathmandu. The delay not only caused problems to come to Nepal and going abroad, various programs out of country had to be delayed because the artists couldn’t fly on the scheduled date.

The comedy and musical program scheduled for March 7, Tito Satya Meri Bassai Sanjh had to be delayed to March 19 as the artists couldn’t take the flight to Australia in time. The program will feature Kedar Ghimire, Wilson Bikram Rai, Deepa Shree Niraula, Deepak Raj Giri, Aastha Raut and Parbati Rai. (read a previous report on the event in serialsansar)

Holi 2015, Photos of Nepali Film artists

Holi celebration actually started a day earlier in the Filmy Holi program organized by Gopi Krishna Movies when they announced a new movie ‘Thamel dot com’. The celebration today is more colorful and fun-filled. Enjoy the photos of actors and actresses enjoying the festival of color.

Ajhai Pani premiered, Alok Nembang remembered

Three days before the official release of the last film of late director Alok Nembang, ‘Ajhai Pani’ was premiered in Big Movies. In the event, well known musician, Sambhujit Baskota, was honored with the Alok Nembang Award through Trust Alok. Alok’s mother and the producer Poonam Gautam felicitated Sambhujit Baskota with an award.

Sambhujit Baskota is the first music video director in Nepal to make a music video. He started directed the music video in 2043BS featuring actor Bhuwan KC

Artists arrive in Malaysia for Ncell event

Two actress, three singers and a comedy actor have arrived in Malaysia for the ncell event to be held there on Feburary 19, 20 and 21. The actresses Priyanka Karki and Deepa Shree Niraula are accompanied by actor Deepak Raj Giri. Singers include Sunita Dulal, Khuman Adhikari and Shiva Pariyar.
