Chha Ekan Chha to release to support earthquake victims

The comedy actor and the producer of the hit movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha,’ Deepak Raj Giri has announced that the movie is re-releasing on Friday to support earthquake victims. According to report, co-producer actress Deepa Shree Niraula had suggested the re-release of the movie.

As no new Nepali movies are being released for some time, Deepa and Deepak had decided to utilize this time to release the hit movie to collect fund for earthquake victim. The movie released on January 10, 2014 got mixed review and aggressive promotion in television. The movie is also available to watch in full in xnepali here – watch ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ here.

Will the movie theaters open this Friday?

It has almost been a month of the devastating Nepal Earthquake and the film theaters are yet to open for business. Although the theater owners had announced the resumption of business on the second week of earthquake, the government found them risky to re-open before comprehensive structural evaluation of the structures.

The second big after shock on May 12 caused further damages to the structures and killed some people. The theaters couldn’t open on that week. Now, there is still uncertainty of the safety the theaters as some theaters. The government hasn’t been able to identify the risky and safe theaters so far. According to the spokesperson of Film Development Board (FDB), the government authority will require some more days to publish the full list of damaged theaters.

Charity show of Highway to Dhampus to be held in the USA for earthquake relief of Nepal

A charity show of upcoming Hollywood movie of Raj Ballav Koirala, ‘Highway to Dhampus’ is going to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in the USA. The movie show is scheduled to be held at 7:00 PM on May 13 and May 14, 2015 at Jordan Commons Megaplex, Sandy, UT.

Earlier, the movie production team had told that they would be donating the promotion budget to the earthquake relief effort.

Movies goers warned, some theaters found risky to reopen

The organization of movie theaters had decided to open the theaters this Friday. They had claimed that they had performed the required engineering aspects of the theaters before making the decision. But, the government had objected their decision and started performing their own damage assessment. On May 8, we were informed that Cine de Chef was the only theater damaged by earthquake. But, the government damage assessment team has found more theaters unsuitable for occupancy.

According to a report in Onlinekhabr, the government engineering team has declared 3 theaters under Guna Cinemas too risky to operate by posting red stickers on the theaters.

Earthquake, Hostel Returns release delayed by 3 months

The movie scheduled to release on Baisakh 25 (May 8), ‘Hostel Returns’ has been pushed 3 months after the devastating earthquake. The sequel of hit movie ‘Hostel’ (watch ‘Hostel’ here) is one of the highly awaited movie. The movie is made on the story of an engineering college hostel.

According to the producer Sunil Rawal, the moviel will release on Bhadra 4 (August 21). The movie directed by Suraj Bhusal features new actors including Sashi Shrestha, Sushil Shrestha, Swostima Khadaka, Abhaya Baral and Najir Hussein.

Movie theaters to open this Friday

The multiplex theaters in Kathmandu are going to start their regular business starting this Friday. Apart from one damaged theater, Cine de Chef, all other multiplex theaters are opening on May 8, 2015.

The compound walls of QFX theater had fallen but the theater itself is undamaged. The CTC Mall building, where Cine de Chef is located, has been completely damaged by earthquake. Other theaters are reported to be in good condition to continue operation.

Earthquake relief materials of a film unit snatched by locals before reaching the destination

The ‘Chankhe Shankhe Pankhe’ film unit was on its way to take earthquake relief materials to Selang Bari of Sindhupalanchowk, the birthplace of director Nischal Basnet. But, the locals in Bhote Selang, about one kilometer before the destination have snatched all of it. Although they were also the earthquake victims, the film unit has expressed its sadness on being unable to reach the destination.

According to the film director Sudarshan Thapa, Bhote Selang has about 30 houses and the government had distributed about 20 sacks of rice before their materials were snatched by the residents. The locals had mistakenly thought the film unit’s material was the government assistance. Sudarshan has told that they had relief materials costing around Rs. 400,000.

Sweta Khadka to donate Kohinoor collection in the USA to earthquake victims

Actress Sweta Khadka has expressed deep sorrow on the devastating earthquake in Nepal. The actress currently in the USA for her treatment and to show the movie Kohinoor has told that she also wants to help the victims. To show her support she has announced that all the income made by the movie show in the USA will go towards the earthquake relief in Nepal.

In addition to support, Sweta has also asked everybody to be strong and deal with the problem. She also asked people to say our family and help everybody in whatever way they can.

Hostel Returns, Highway to Dhampus and Chankhe Shankhe Pankhe release postponed

Because of the devastating earthquake of April 25 a number of movies scheduled to release in coming days have been postponed.

The movies postponed are:

  • Resham Filili – The movie released on April 24 had to halt the show on the next day. The next release date is not decided yet.
  • Hostel Returns – The ‘Hostel Returns’ producer Sunil Rawal is going to organize a press meet this Friday to announce the new release date.
  • Highway To Dhampus – A Hollywood film of Raj Ballav Koirala, scheduled to release on Jestha 29 has announced to donate "the budgeted amounts intended for its promotion to the relief efforts."
  • The Jestha 1 release movie ‘Chankhe Shankhe Pankhe’ has also been postponed.
  • The release of this Friday’s release ‘Cycle’, ‘Dhoon’ and ‘Janmabhoomi’ are also uncertain.

Resham Filili show halted

The comedy movie ‘Resham Filili’ makers have decided that it is not the time for laughter when the whole country is mourning the victims of the massive earthquake of April 26. Talking to an online magazine, the producer, Madhav Wagle, has said that the decision was made because entertainment is not a priority at the time of emergency.

The resumption of the show is not known. Wagle  said that the movie show will be halted for an uncertain time in the future.

Rekha Thapa movie Rampyari, song recording started

The song recording of Rekha Thapa‘s next movie ‘Rampyari’ has started in Kathmandu. Rekha’s home production movie ‘Rampyari’ is going to be made on the story of a auto rickshaw driver woman of Chitwan. Rekha had recently visited Chitwan to meet the real person on whom the movie is going to be made. She had also driven the auto rickshaw the real Rampyari drives (read more in nepaliactress).

In ‘Rampyari’ Rekha is introducing her nephew, Avash Adhikari, as the leading actor. Actress Ashma DC is told to be featured opposite to Avash. In the start, Rekha had announced that she would be directing the movie. But, later she decided to delegate the responsibility of direction to Shabir Shrestha.

Sukul premier of Resham Filili, Kameshwor role appreciated

A different type of premier of comedy movie ‘Resham Filili’ was held among journalists and artists at Kumari theater in Kathmandu. Instead of the common trend of green carpet or red carpet, traditional Nepali carpet made out of hay, Sukul, was used in the ceremony and the premier was also named Sukul Primer.

After the show, the viewers had told that the comedy movie was entertaining and the role of the character, Hariya, played by Kameshwor Chaurasiya was the most appreciated artist in the movie. The movie features Vinay Shrestha and Menuka Pradhan in leading role and the roles of Karma Shakya and Kameshwor Chaurasiya is supporting.

Friday Release – Resham Filili and Jhola

This week’s release is interesting – a clash between the highly expected comedy movie ‘Resham Filili’ and award winner movie ‘Jhola’. The movie ‘Jhola’ was previously released, before it won Best Actress Award in SAARC Film Festival.

Kismat 2, director Shyam Bhattarai replaced by Rishi Lamichane

In the initial announcement of the ‘Kismat’ sequel ‘Kismat 2’, director Shyam Bhattarai was named the director. The announcement was made during the birthday celebration of the actress Shilpa Pokharel in December last year. In a latest report, Shyam is replaced by ‘Hawaldar Suntali’ director Rishi Lamichane.

Shyam Bhattarai is currently in USA. He went there on April 10 and is not expected to return back until the start of the shooting of ‘Kismat 2’. That is the reason behind the change in the director of the movie. But, others believe that the success of ‘Hawaldar Suntali’ has helped Rishi to gain confidence from Chhabi. Whatever may be the case, Shyam Bhattarai has been removed from their movies by both Chhabi Raj Ojha and Rekha Thapa. The direction agreement between Chhabiraj Films and Rishi Lamichane was made on April 23.
