Too many awards – same categories, same winners, winners didn’t show up

Do you know who is most excited to win an award in an award ceremony?

The first time winners are the most excited and enthusiastic when an award is announced. But, when the winner of the Best Newcomer Award doesn’t show up in an award ceremony to receive the award, there is something seriously wrong. I don’t know if that had happened in the other award ceremonies as well but, I felt it odd when the winner of Best Newcomer award, Samragyee RL Shah, didn’t show up to receive the award in NFDC National Award ceremony, held recently.

I think, that was because, she had already won the award and there is no charm in winning more than one awards for the same movie and same role.

I wonder, how Namrata Shrestha could even feel happy – winning awards for the same thing – again and again, and again for the fifth time. Yes, she won Best Actress awards for the same role in ‘Classic’ – five different awards:

  • National Award
  • FAAN Award
  • D Cine Award
  • LG Film Award
  • NFDC Award

I am pretty sure she will win more awards in future. If I were her, after winning the Nation Award, from the President of Nepal, Bidhya Devi Bhandari, I wouldn’t have attended any other award ceremonies.

Paul Shah and Barsha Raut best models at Music Award 2016 (list of winners)

In the Nepali Music Video Award ceremony held in the capital of United Arab Emeritus, Abu Dhabi on September 16, various artists were awarded in 18 different categories. To participate in the award ceremony singer Komal Oli, models Yashraj Garach, Paul Shah, Amir Shekh, Shyam Aryal, Shankar BC, Pooja Sharma and Barsha Raut had arrived from Nepal. Others present in the ceremony include singer Yuvaraj Chaulagain, singer Durga Kharel, Subrat Acharya and Sridhar Poudel.

In addition to the music video award, musical and dance performances were also done in-between. The director Sudarshan Thapa also announced his next movie ‘Me Yeuta Yesto Geet Gauchhu’ featuring Paul Shah and Pooja Sharma in leading roles. (My report on the announcement)

Namrata and Aryan Sigdel win NFDC best actor awards (Full list of winners)

In the Nepali film award organized by Gopi Krishna Movies, the ‘Classic’ actors Namrata Shrestha and Aryan Sigdel were chosen the best actors. But, the winner of the best movie award was ‘Pashupati Prasad’. The Best director award went to Dinesh Raut, the director of ‘Classic’. The editor of ‘Classic’ Surendra Poudel also won the Best Editor award.

Another Premgeet sequel? Ma Euta Geet Gauchhu announced by Sudarshan Thapa

Director Sudarshan Thapa announced a new movie titled ‘Ma Euta Geet Gauchhu’ in a program held in Dubai on Friday, September 16. The movie named after the title song of hit movie of the year ‘Premgeet’ and will feature actress Pooja Sharma and Paul Shah in leading role.

A few days ago, the producer of ‘Premgeet’, Santosh Sen had announced the making of the sequel of the movie ‘Premgeet 2’. The biggest omission of the sequel were the actress Pooja Sharma and the director Sudarshan Thapa. Santosh Sen and Sudarshan Thapa are not in good terms these days so the sequel ‘Premgeet 2’ will be directed by the scriptwriter of ‘Premgeet’ Ramsharan Pathak.

As both movies ‘Premgeet 2’ and ‘Ma Euta Geet Gauchhu’ have borrowed the title from the movie ‘Premgeet’ both seem like the sequel of the movie. Let me compare the two –

Shilpa Films in making, Shilpa to produce Hifajat 2 in partnership with Chhabi Ojha

It seems, Chhabi is planning to produce the sequels of all the hit movies made under Rekha Films. After the completion of the sequel of ‘Kismat’, ‘Kismat 2’, Chhabi and Shilpa are busy in the preparation of another sequel ‘Hifajat 2’.

The movie ‘Hifajat’ was released in 2010. The movie had gone through a few controversies including the photo morphing in the poster and wearing religious clothes in provocative manner. For the promotion of the movie, Rekha had told that she had prepared 30 mini-skirts for the movie. Rekha had used the miniskirt as the promotional stunt. She had told that she has worn nothing but miniskirts till the end of the first half (read more about the ‘Hifajat’ promotional stunt).

Friday Release – Gaatho and Driver Dai

Two new movies ‘Gaatho’ and ‘Driver Dai’ have released in theatre today, on September 16, 2016. Although, the targeted audience of ‘Driver Dai’ is different from ‘Gaatho’ there is an issue that can affect the business of these movies. The movie released last week, ‘Chhaka Panja’ is still going on strong in all the theatres. These movies will certainly be affected by the popularity of the last week’s release.

The movie ‘Thuli’ was released two years ago, in August of 2014. For the preparation of the movie, actress Garima Panta had gone through martial arts training. Because of the catchy music, the title song of the movie had become very popular at the time of the movie release.

Singers who died young, RIP Sunil Bardewa

It is a sad news that singer Sunil Bardewa had suddenly died at the age of 44 on September 13, 2016. Suffering from jaundice, Bardewa had died after he was rushed to the hospital after an emergency at home. 19 days ago, another singer, Khemraj Gurung had also died in similar health condition.

It is sad that the singers didn’t live their full life. An average lifespan of a Nepali is 69 years. Both Sunil Bardewa and Khemraj Gurung were in their early 40s, not a age to die. There are other singers who had died younger. I will discuss about some other singers who had died at a young age.

Pooja Sharema not in Premgeet sequel, Ashlisha Thakuri to romance with Pradeep Khadka

Actress Pooja Sharma has been kicked out of the hit movie ‘Premgeet’ in it’s sequel ‘Premgeet 2’. According to the latest report, Pooja will be replaced by a new actress Ashilsha Thakuri. While the actress will be replaced, the lead actor will be the same – Pradeep Khadka. It is an irony that, the news has surfaced a few days after the online-couple, Pooja Sharma and Pradeep Khadka had won the Best On-Screen Couple of the year award at the LG Film Award 2016.

Rekha in negative role, Diarry shooting starts on Chhulthim’s birthday

On the occasion of the birthday of ‘November Rain’ debut actress and the producer of upcoming movie ‘Diarry’, Chhulthim Gurung, the shooting of the movie started in Kathmandu. In an event organized at the Kamaladi Ganesh Mandir in Kathmandu, Chhulthim also shared the birthday cake with the crew members and the guest of the event held on September 11, 2016.

After 8 months in hiding following marriage, Simpal Khanal shows a big belly

After getting married in January of 2016, actress and model Simpal Khanal left Nepal with her husband, Nadeem. After that, there is no news about where she is living and what she is doing. After almost 8 months of marriage, Simpal Khanal was seen in social media for the first time to share the big belly she has developed. All she has told is that she is expecting a baby and she thought it was the “biggest gift” she could get. There is no information about the due date and the details about where she is living now.

Friday Release – Chhaka Panja

The sole Nepali movie to release today, on September 9, 2016, is ‘Chhaka Panja’. The movie directed by Deepa Shree Niraula also marks the debut of the comedy actress as a director. The movie made on the problem youths face while going for foreign employment is expected to follow the trend of the previous movies of the same team – ‘Woda Number 6’ and ‘Chha Ekan Chha’.
