Friday Release – Chhal

There hadn’t been much publicity of the movie released on Friday, January 22, 2016. The action movie ‘Chhal’ is directed by Shiva Pariyar. Most of the artists in the movie are new. Prajwal Giri, Sanjog Rana, Soniya Giri, Sabina Karki, Kabisha Shrestha and Shree Dev Bhattarai are the leading actors of the movie.

Ko Afno to release with Karishma Manandhar film Fagu on Feb 19

In a program held at CTC Mall on January 20, 2016, the trailer of upcoming movie, ‘Ko Afno’ was released and the the release date was announced. The movie produced and directed by Anil Thapa is releasing on the the date  Karishma Manandhar‘s production comeback movie ‘Fagu’ is being released.

Sunil Thapa and Wilson Bikram Rai to be featured in a Bipasha Basu Bollywood movie

The actor of Nepali film industry Sunil Thapa is going to be featured in a Bollywood movie with actress Bipasha Basu in ‘Bhai Must be Crazy’. The actor popularly known as Takme Budha, Wilson Bikram Rai, will also be featured in the movie with Sunil Thapa. The movie is going to be directed by Vinay Sharma.

The movie was initially planned to be shot in Nepal. But, because of the Indian blockade and shortage of fuel and cooking gas, the shooting has been affected. A 45-days long shooting is now scheduled in Thailand at the end of January. According to report, Sunil Thapa has already signed the agreement but, Wilson is yet sign the agreement.

Anmol and Shristi love story, Gajalu to release on May 6

The movie featuring Anmol KC and Miss Nepal 2012, Shristi Shrestha in lieading role – ‘Gajalu’ is scheduled to release on May 6, 2016. According to the producer of the movie, Rohit Adhikari, the shooting of the movie has been completed in 45 days, on January 12. The movie was shot in locations in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitlang, Daman and Kulekhani. The movie directed by Hemraj BC is considered the most awaited movie of the year.

With Shristi and Anmol the movie also features Gaurav Pahadi, Rhitik Shahi and Salon Basnet in main role. The movie is made on the love story of youths. The romantic thriller movie had received a minimum guarantee of Rs. 3.5 million by FD Company in the initial days of the shooting of the movie. The producer has estimated the cost to reach Rs. 12.5 million by the end of post-production.

Friday Release – Fanko and Kafal Pakyo (with trailers)

This week on January 15, 2016 two new Nepali movies are releasing in theater. Both the movies – director Sabitri Khatri’s ‘Kafal Pakyo’ and Suwarna Thapa’s movie ‘Fanko’ were highly publicized movies. Both the movies were shown to the Nepali viewers in foreign countries before their official release. The movies are being released on Magh 1, the Makar Sakranti festival in Nepal.

Kafal Pakyo

The movie ‘Kafal Pakyo’ features Jiwan Luitel, Barsha Raut, Mukesh Acharya, Laya Sangarula and Uttam KC in leading roles. The movie directed by Sabitri Khatri features the music of Bikash Chaudhary, script of Pradeep Bhardwoj and is made under Red Panda banner.

The movie is made on comedy theme. The movie shows the travel from Kathmandu to Gulmi in romantic way. The Actor Jiwan is featured as a village guy and actress Barsha Raut is featured as a modern tom-boy. The relationship between the two is the whole movie.

Fanko premier held in Kathmandu, Priyanka shows off her body in transparent dress

The red carpet premier of Nepali movie ‘Fanko’ was held on Wednesday, January 13 in Kumari theater in Kathmandu. In the event, the cast and the crew members of the movie joined the guests to watch the movie.

The movie has been highly promoted and a few premiers were done in some cities in Europe earlier. The movie directed by Suwarna Thapa is produced by Narendra Maharjan, Sahadev Gautam and Padma Gurung. The movie featured Priyanka Karki, Dayahang Rai, Keki Adhikari, Saugat Malla and Anup Baral in lead roles. The movie is made on the story of characters of living in highway for money.

Dreams, trailer released, Anmol KC in action and lover boy role

The trailer of one of the most awaited movies of the year, ‘Dreams’ was released in a program held in Kathmandu on January 11, 2016. In the press meet held at Cine the Chef at Sundhara, the film team including the lead actor Anmol KC, Samragyee RL Shah and the director Bhuwan KC gave the information about the movie and their experiences during the film making. Talking in the program, Bhuwan told that he had always wanted to feature his son in one of his movies and the dream has come true through ‘Dreams’.

Rajesh Hamal says Bagmati did not live up to his expectation, viewers feel cheated

There was high hopes from the movie released on Friday, ‘Bagmati’. The movie featuring well known actors like Rajesh Hamal, Shiva Shrestha, and Keki Adhikari was told to have produced spending the highest production cost in the history of Nepali films. The movie directed by a South Indian director and the technicians, was also well promoted. But, the final result is considered below average by most of the viewers and even the actors. The lead actor, Rajesh Hamal, in his Facebook post that he is sad that the movie was left incomplete.

Rajesh had watched the movie with his wife Madhu Bhattarai and Shiva Shrestha. After watching the movie he has appreciated the cinematography and thrill but was apparently not happy by the execution of the movie. He has also revealed that the details of the sequel wasn’t worked out with the film artists. He has also expressed his dissatisfaction on the return back of the director Sunny Kerala back to India a day before the release of the movie.

Friday Release – Bagmati

The Nepali movie produced by South Indian producers and technicians, ‘Bigmati’ has released in theater on Friday, January 8, 2016. The movie released in 80 theaters all over country is considered the most costly movie in the history of Nepali movies. The movie featuring the top actors in Nepali film industry is directed by Sunny Kerala. The movie made under the banner Tree Entertainment, is produced by Dinesh Darshandhari and Bijaya Satyal.

‘Bagmati’ featured Rajesh Hamal, Shiva Shrestha, Keki Adhikari, Rabikar Ghimire, Shreya Karki, Kanchan Thakuri etc. All the technical works of the movie was done in India and the most of the background crews of the movie were also South Indian.

Sanrakshan to feature Nikhil Upreti ad Saugat Malla in Ramesh Kharel story

A new movie titled ‘Sanrakshan’ is going to feature actors Nikhil Upreti and Saugat Malla as police officers. The movie also features Ashishma Nakarmi and Malina Joshi in leading roles. Suvekshya Thapa uses religious ‘khada’ to cover herself, protest

UPDATE: After the protest of various Sherpa organizations, Suvekshya Thapa has apologized for the mistake and has told that she had no intention of hurting Buddhist people. In the mean time, various organizations had asked Thapa to be punished for undermining their faith and beliefs by using holy Khada to cover her body parts.

Actress Suvekshya Thapa is known to create controversy for the promotion of her movies. Like her previous movies, Suvekshya has chosen to show off her body to promote her upcoming movie ‘Bindaas 3’. In the photos published in onlinekhabar, Suvekshya has covered her body under religious shawl-like cloth – ‘Khada’. ‘Khada’ is used to honor and appreciate people and it is also offered to the god in Buddhist culture.

In the photos, Suvekshya has wrapped a blue khada to look like skirt and a white one to cover the upper body parts. She is well covered and this looks a lot better than the photos she did for the promotion of her previous movie ‘Miss Nepal’. The promotional photo of her earlier movie was copied from Bollywood actress pose in which she had used a fish to cover the upper part of her body.

Rekha Thapa, the new singer actress of 2016 after Priyanka, Pooja and Chhulthim

A After the release of music video of actresses Priyanka Karki, Pooja Sharma and Chhulthim Gurung, another actress, Rekha Thapa, has given voice to one of the songs of an upcoming movie ‘Lal Jodi’. Within a week of new year, five Nepali actresses have shown their singing talent. Three actresses Priyanka, Pooja and Chhulthim released music videos in YouTube, actress Gauri Malla showed off her singing talent in a musical program and actress Rekha Thapa sang for a movie. For Rekha, singing is not a new hobby. She had given voice to a couple of songs in movies and has also released an album. During the ‘Lal Jodi’ song recording, Rekha told that she will only sing for movie, not for YouTube uploads.

Rajesh Hamal featured as a female character, Sakuntala

On Monday, January 4, Rajesh Hamal was seen in a female appearance – wearing saree, blouse and a huge bindi on forehead. The get up was for his upcoming movie ‘Sakuntala’. Rajesh is being featured in a female’s role in the movie as the lead character of the female-oriented movie.

Two weeks ago when the movie was announced in a press meet, Rajesh and the film team had kept Rajesh Hamal’s role in the movie. Rajesh had given a clue by saying, “Sakuntala can be anybody. A male can be Sakuntala and a female can also be Sakuntala.’

The actress Anu Shah had told that her role would be that of a journalist and she had asked the journalists in the press meet to wait till the first look or the shooting of the movie to know the truth about the leading character.

Film City controversy, KP Oli rejects Dolkha location

The prime minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli, rejected the proposal to construct a Film City in Dolkha. In an event held at his government residence in Baluwatar, Oli has told that the location proposed by the previous government wasn’t appropriate. He has told that the location in Dolkha is such that it doesn’t see sunshine for more that two hours – that too only for two days in a week.

The location was proposed by the Film Development Board (FDB) during the leadership of Dharmendra Kumar Marbaita.  Dharmendra and the team had visited the location various times to come to the conclusion. After the current prime minster, KP Oli rejected the previous decision, there had been reports of protest in Dolkha.

Oli was talking in the promotional event of upcoming movie by Dinesh DC, ‘Fulai Fulko Mausam Timilai’ held on December 28, 2015. The first film promotional program held in the PM’s government residence in the history of Nepal was also criticized the political pundits. KP had told that Dolkha’s climate and geography don’t suit for the construction of Film City.

Documentary on Mira Rai, the story of a world-recognized mountain runner

Lloyd Belcher has made a short film on a Nepali runner Mira Rai, the winner of Mont Blank Ultra Marathon in 2015. The 80 km long marathon is considered one of the most difficult marathons in the world. 25-years-old ex-Maoist combatant, Rai was disqualified during the combining of the Maoist army and the Nepal army. Rai had a clear win with 22 minutes gap between herself and the second place winner.

The short film made on Mira Rai is also named ‘Mira Rai’ and is scheduled to release on March 30, 2016. The movie shows how a 14-years-old girl became Maoist combatant and how she became world famous mountain runner.
