The well known doctor and scientist, Dr. Upendra Devkota, who had saved thousands of lives, hasn’t been able to save himself. Dr. Devkota died at the hospital he founded, Nuro Hospital, Bansbari.

This is an update to a previous post on the subject. I have also updated the video report for this post.
The original video was made on the suggestion of one of my Twitter friends. The suggestion was make video report on Nepali actresses who smoke and drink in real life. Actually I wasn’t really interested in doing the report in the beginning. It was their personal freedom and I wasn’t a person to judge them by their habits. Drinking is not a taboo anymore. And, smoking is a bad habit almost all of the smokers want to quit.
Unless a drunk person acts irresponsibly, drinking doesn’t usually interface with the other people. But, smoking can expose non-smokers passive smoking. Smokers can at times be a nuisance too. But, I wasn’t willing to discuss the issue until I remember Rajesh Hamal’s incident during the shooting of one of his films. Then I prepared a video report (attached at the end of the post). The following video is the update to the video.
Nepali Film – Naike Starring – Aryan Sigdel, Surabina Karki, Sarika KC, Rem BK etc. Director – Netra Gurung
The movie released in 2014 (read the release news) wasn’t successful movie. The movie was released with Sambhu Pradhan’s comeback film ‘Ranga Baijani’. But, neither of the movies were liked by the viewers. The movie features Aryan Sigdel in an action role. With Aryan Sigdel and Surabina Karki, the movie also features Rem BK, Bodhraj Regmi, Sarika KC etc. I wrote about the start of the movie in Pokhara (read the news here) and also talked about Aryan being featured as a gangster (read the news). In addition to action it also features romance and music. Aryan is also featured as a lover-boy image in addition to being featured in a tough action role.
The movie made under Black Shadow Production is directed by Netra Gurung, a film director from Pokhara. Most of the movie was also shot in various locations in and around Pokhara. “Naike” is a Nepali word for a leader. Although it is a Nepali word, the name in various posters were spelled in different English letters. Some posters named the film as ‘Naike’ and others ‘Naaike’ (attached poster is a proof). The confusion in the name is a better indication how the editing of the film might have been done. No wonder, people didn’t like the film.

Aslesha Thakuri debuted as an actress in ‘Prem Geet 2’, the sequel of a superhit movie ‘Prem Geet’. In the movie she is featured opposite to Pradeep Khadka. Although the film was successful and Pradeep Khadka became the new sensation in the Nepali film industry, the success of the movie wasn’t helpful to the actress. The Aslesha and Pradeep couple wasn’t liked by the viewers.
After the first movie, there is no report of Aslesha signing another movie. But, by the way she is building up her body, there might be some unannounced project in which Aslesha might be coming.

Nepali Movie – Jaljala Starring – Rekha Thapa, Aayush Rijal, Basundhara Bhusal etc. Director – Shivaji Lamichane
The movie ‘Jaljala’ is about the Maoist civil war and is a presentation of The Revolutionary Cine Concern. It is sponsored by Maoists and the story of the Maoist war in Nepal and a fighter named Jaljala was made into a movie to justify the civil war. The leading actress Rekha Thapa featured as the leading lady in the movie became close to the Maoist leaders while doing the film. She later joined the party. But, her political journey was cut short when she left the party to join Rastriya Prajatantra Party. During the election, Rekha and Ayush were also featured in a political song used for the promotion of the party candidates.
The Maoist leader Nandakishor Pun (Pasang) is named the person behind the movie. The guest artists in the movie are Ganesh Bhandari, Maila Lama, Hari Siwakoti, Purushottam Dhungel and Deepesh Pun. The official producer of the movie is Kashiram Bhusal, action direction by Rajendra Khadgi, art direction by Gopal Bhutani, background score by Manoj Rajbhandari, editing by Milan Shrestha, script / dialogue by Maunata Shrestha, choreography by Kabiraj Gahatraj, cinematography by Bishnu Kalpit and music by Chetan Sapkota. The story of the movie is written by the director Shivaji Lamichane. The movie was released on January 11, 2012.
Singer, journalist and athlete Komal Oli has a special link to the palace. Apart from being a long-time Radio Nepal journalist, Komal Oli had received scholarship from the palace during her school days. She was invited to the palace during Dashain. King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya used to know her in person because of her talent and celebrity status.
There was a rumour going on at the time of monarchy. People used to talk about the relationship between Komal and then prince Dhirendra. Dhirendra had a reputation of a playboy. It was a common belief that any girl in Dhirendra’s radar was not safe. Komal was one of his favourite singers and she was also an athlete. Dhirendra was the chief of Nepal Sports Council. In an interview, Komal Oli had quoted Late Sarad Chandra Shah, one of the right hands of Dhirendra (and also main force behind the notorious ‘Bhumigat Giroha’) telling her about Dhirendra’s affection towards her. Nepali Movie – Rajja Rani Starring – Keki Adhikaari, Najir Hussain, Kameshor Chaurasiya etc. Director – Yam Thapa
This is a new Nepali movie released earlier this year. (released in January 2018) The comedy film is set in Terai region featuring love between actress Keki and actor Najir. The movie is a presentation of Aryan Films Production.
Salman Khan had visited Nepal in 1992 for the shooting of his movie ‘Bulund’. The shooting of the movie however got halted after the completion of half of the movie. The exact reason of it being incomplete is not known but, there are a couple of incidents that are worth mentioning about Salman’s first Nepal visit.

I prepared a video on the only remaining blood relatives of King Birendra – his grand daughters, Surangana Rana and Girvani Rana. The daughters of Pricess Shruti are studying in India and are away from media attention. At the time they lost their mother in Durbar Hatyakanda in 2001, Girvani was just 3-years old and Surangana 7-months old. After 7 years of that ill-fated time, their father, Gorakh, also married another mother. (I had also written about them two years ago)
Both Surangana and Girvani studied in Kathmandu till their grade 4. In the fifth grade they went to Dehara Dhun, India for the rest of their schooling. Now, 20-years-old Girvani is doing her bachelors in Bangalore. 17-years old Surangana is finishing her school years in Dehara Dhun.
I am writing this post to share some interesting comments in the video. Some of the viewers have suggested that the royalty should be re-installed and the eldest should be installed as a constitutional queen. Although such thing is not possible in the current time, these comments are really insetting.
An army staff at Narayanhiti Lal Bahadur Lamteri claimed that Crown Prince Dipendra was the one who was killed before everybody else in the June 1, 2001. Lamteri’s claim that Prince Paras brought a person wearing a Dipendra look-alike mask. But, whole account of Lamteri doesn’t seem convincing.  The official report of the government probe commission had accused Dipendra for the killing. The report in itself is unbeilable and unreliable.

A lot of celebrity kids have entered the Nepali film industry. In a latest news, actress Jharana Thapa is introducing her daughter Suhana Thapa in her second directorial venture, ‘A Mero Hajur 3’. The movie will feature another celebrity son, Anmol KC. Both the parents of Anmol KC – Sushmita KC and Bhuwan KC are film artists. Nepali Film – Patuki Starring – Rajani K.C, James B.C, Dipak Kadel, Roji Shrestha, Makten Kalu etc. Director – Ram Nepal
The movie features hit actress Rajani KC with James BC. ‘Patuki’ is made on an original Nepali story featuring a typical Nepali environment, directed by Ram Nepal and written and produced by Makten Kalu. Made under the banner Mansudha Media the editor of the film in Abhisekh Paudel. The music in the movie are composed by Amit Rasaili and Rajan Raj Siwakoti. The movie however didn’t do well in theatre.
Nepali women in New York, USA are going to meet on June 2, 2018 at Belozino Hall in Jackson Height. This is a yearly event in which Nepali-American women come together to celebrate womanhood. The event help to build stronger relationship between them and is also an opportunity to showcase their talents.
According to the organizers, the Nepali Ladies Sanjh is “the most entertaining Nepali women night out signature yearly program for the Ladies and by the Ladies.”
Like previous years, Nepali ladies will showcase their talents on stage. According to the organizers, Nepali ladies have been preparing for the event for a long time. Some of them have been dieting and doing a lot of exercise to show off their fit and attractive bodies. One of the participants has claimed that she has lost 14 pounds for the event.
The organizers have been using the proceeds from the event for social works in Nepal and USA. In 2013 they had helped Sabika Thapa for her kidney transplant. In 2014 Prasa Tuladhar of New York was helped in her lungs treatment. In 2017 the the Gorkhaland movement victims were helped. Continue reading
The Chief Minister of State 2, Lal Babu Raut, addressed the first convention of an organization set by Madheshi people living in the USA. The organization named Madhesh Association of America (MAA) had invited Raut as the chief guest of the event. But, Nepal government didn’t approve his travel to the USA. According to the cabinet decision, Raut’s US visit wasn’t as important as his job at home.

The official reasons government has given doesn’t seem to align with the publicly perceived reason. The government had faced some tussle when Indian prime minister Narendra Modi visited Janakpur. The local government wanted to do everything on its own while the central government wasn’t happy by the way Raut government dealt with the situation. Modi being in an official visit, the foreign ministry had sought for a more responsibility. The government wasn’t happy by Raut’s public address at that time. Raut had addressed the public in Hindi language and had expressed his dissatisfaction over the constitution amendment. Continue reading
One of the top models in Nepali music industry, Sushma Adhikari, hasn’t been successful in her movie acting. She has acted in a few Nepali movies and she had also acted in Bhojpuri movie, but none of them became successful. Sushma started acting in Nepali movie ‘Pipal’ in 2014. The first movie failed to impress the viewers. Sushma’s second Nepali movie ‘Anautho Premkatha’ also followed the same path. After the second attempt, Sushma busied herself in music videos and modelling.
