Nepali movie ‘Jhola’ is a movie made on a popular book by the same name by literary figure, Krishna Dharabasi. The plot set on the Nepali society of the time about a century ago. The movie directed by Yadav Kumar Bhattarai features Garima Pant, Desh Bhakta Khanal, Deepak Chhetri, Laxmi Giri, Pralhad Khatiwada etc. in main roles. The movie made on the banner of Media for Culture Pvt. Ltd. was made after an extensive research on the topic for about 7 years. Based on the novel, late Deepak Alok had written the script of the movie – keeping the core of the book intact. The movie can be categorized as a historical art movie.

Story

The movie presents the height of violence against women in ancient Nepal – Sati tradition. In ‘Jhola’ an young woman (Garima Pant) is married to a man 40 years senior to her. When her husband dies, Garima is burned alive with the dead body of her husband. She escaped the fire and hides in a cave. You can watch the movie to know what happens to Garima and how her underage son helps her.

Moskshya – Movie Review

Introduction

Nepali movie ‘Mokshya’ was released on February 7, 2014. The movie directed by a wheelchair ridden musician and editor, Prabin Shrestha, received a good amount of hype before the release of the movie. In addition to prositive reviews during premier show, the viewers have also appreciated the story and story-telling in the movie. Prabin says 70 percent of the movie is his own life.

The movie produced by Sunil Manandhar is written by Pragyan Thapa and Rajan Kathet. The movie features Koshish Chhetri, Benisha Hamal, Bikram Singh, Manish Godar, Dipesh Bhandari, Basanta Bhatta, Shekhar Chapagai, Durga Baraili, Rashmi Bhatta, Sapana Shrestha etc.

Story

The movie is made on a story of four youths who wants to build a career in music. They fight their parents and argue about being different. After the first and successful concert of Mokshya band, the lead character met with an accident and had to live his life on wheelchair. The movie is about the hardships the character goes through in his life. The accident affected the friendship between the four youth as they started living their own lives.

Chha Ekan Chha – Movie Review

The top comedians of television – Deepak Raj Giri, Jitu Nepal, Sitaram Kattel, Kedar Ghimire, Shiva Hari Poudel – each have the potential to make an extremely funny movie. But, the movie featuring all of them in leading role – ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ – doesn’t have anything that impressive in terms of story.

Released on January 10, 2014 the movie ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ is produced jointly by comedy serial ‘Tito Satya’ team comprising of Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula and Nirmal Sharma (Gaida). Nepali movie ‘Biteka Pal’ was released on January 10, 2014. The recommendations of the viewers during the premier held on December 28, were also told to be incorporated in the final release. The movie produced by Rajesh Ghatani and Krish Rijal is written and directed by Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’. The movie features Keki Adhikari, Abinash Gurung and Baboo Bogati in lead roles.

Loafer – Movie Review

Nepali movie ‘Loafer’ was released on December 6, 2013 in theaters all over Nepal. The movie could manage to create a good hype in media because the producer Chhabi Raj Ojha. Chhabi, who had been continuously working with Rekha Thapa for the last decade, had replaced Rekha with a new actress Rajani KC in ‘Loafer’. In addition to that, the movie is also the first movie of Chhabi Raj Ojha, that is especially targeted to multiplex audiences. The movie directed by Aditya Bikram Lamsal features artists Aryan Sigdel, Dayahang Rai, Rajani KC, and Kamal Mani Nepal in leading roles.

Story:

‘Loafer’ is a story of Bhanta played by Dayahang Rai.  Bhanta joins two friends and one driver drinking wine in a bar. The party went on for the the whole night. In the next morning, they found an unconscious girl in their car. A news that the the girl, who happened to be the daughter of a Minister, kidnaped by a gang was published in every major newspapers.

Maun – Movie Review

Nepali movie ‘Maun’ was released all over the theatres in Nepal on September 27, 2013. The movie is jointly produced by Nabin Gauli and Suraj Bhusal, the director. Maun features Arpan Thapa and Namrata Shrestha in lead role. In addition to being the lead actor, Arpan has also written the story of the suspense love story of two deaf people.

Story:

‘Maun’ starts at a library where a couple buy a book titled ‘Maun’ written by an other named Barsha (Namrata Shrestha). The couple also meet writer in the café of library where, they reveal the story of Barsha. Barsha is a mute, deaf girl who had returned back to Nepal from United States and meets another deaf guy called Iman (Arpan Thapa) in a personality development workshop. As the time passed, Iman and Barsha fall in love.

Movie Review – Hostel

Nepali movie ‘Hostel’ was released on August 30 in theaters all over Nepal. The movie is produced by Sunil Rawal under Durgish Films. The movie features the friendship of three characters played by Anmol KC, Salon Basnet and Gaurav Pahadi. Actresses Rista Basnet and Prakriti Shrestha are also featured in important characters in the movie. Although the movie is advertised as a college love story, it is more about friendship and relationships. The movie is directed by Hemraj BC.

Story

The movie is the story of Aditya Bikram Rana (Anmol KC), Junge (Salon Basnet) and Shree (Gaurav Pahadi) – three medical college students living in a hostel. Aditya is from a rich family, Junge is from a medium income family and Shree’s background is not clear in the movie. They go through every ups and downs a young student goes through hostel life. There is love, tragedy, betrayal, friendship, family relationship, classroom, hostel warden and so on.

Nepali movie ‘Mahasus’ was released all over the theatres of Nepal on August 16, 2013. ‘Mahasus’ is produced by Kalyaan Ghimire and directed by Nawal Nepal . The movie features Aryan Sigdel, Keki Adhikari, Benisha Hamal, Nir Shah, Rashmi Bhatta, Apsara Ghimire, and Rabindra Khadka in lead role. ‘Mahasus’ is advertised as a complete clean and family entertainer movie.

Story

‘Mahasus’ is a love story of a business man Bisow (Aryan Sigdel). Biswo is a successful businessman and Bidhya (Benisha Hamal) is his secretary. Bisow proposes Bidhya for marriage and she accepts. But the tragedy starts when Bisow knows Bidhya’s medical condition. Both of Bidhya’s kidneys had failed and she the doctors had estimated her to live a maximum of six months. To save Bidhya’s life, a poor and innocent girl named Gauri (Keki Adhikari) donates her kidney. After the incident, the love story gets new turn when Bisow provided support to Gauri and Bidhya started to get jealous of Gauri. I don’t want to kill excitement of watching movie by revealing what happens next to Bidhya and Biswo’s love story. It’s worth knowing the story by going to theater to watch the movie.

Nepali film ‘Karkash’ was released all over Nepal and Australia on June 14, 2013. ‘Karkash’ is produced by Asim Shah and directed by famous music video director Asif Shah. It features Dayahang Rai, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Satya Raj Acharya, Raymon Das Shrestha, Harshika Shrestha, Rajendra Khadgi and Ragini Khadgi in lead roles. The story of the movie is written by Abhinash Bikram Shah, the writer of Highway.

Story

Karkash is a story of three boys who have formed a musical band named Karkash. They perform in a local restaurant of Thamel. The band wanted to participate in a Band Competition with an award of one lakh for the winner. A problem of Karkash band was that, they lack a good vocalist in their band. While searching a singer for their band, they meet Ivan who is a singer by hobby and an owner of a pub. Ivan is a rich businessman and has an affair with a foreigner. When Ivan’s relationship with the foreigner girl ends, Ivan gets disturbed. The problem in relationship and the response of Ivan led to problem for both the band and Ivan. I don’t want to kill excitement of watching movie by revealing the plot.

Vigilante – Movie Review

A milestone of Nepali film industry, ‘Vigilante’ is the first Nepali 3D movie in the 50-year long history of the industry. ‘Vigilante’ is produced by Aasma Films, the banner that produced the blockbuster movie ‘Chapali Height‘ last year. The movie features Priyanka Karki, Subash Thapa, Raj Ghimire, Menuka Pradhan, and Arjun Gurung in leading roles. The movie is directed by Dipendra K Khanal.

Story

‘Vigilante’ starts with a suicide scene of a groom on his marriage day – and, that is the mystery of the movie. As the movie advances, six friends are seen on a bike trip as a song of Sabin Rai is played on the background. As the advance toward an unmentioned destination, the six friends have a lot of fun and discussion. When one of the friends’ bike breaks down, their journey is halted in an evening. While staying in the house of Khatri in the way, two of them disappear in the forest. Other four to enter the forest to find their missing friends. One by one each of them disappear in the forest.

Movie Review – Chadke

After a very good publicity a equally good response from the promotional matters, ‘Chadke’ was released all over Nepal on 22th February. ‘Chadke’, said to be an environmental thriller movie, is based on youths and the environment of Chitwan area. The movie is the debut movie of director Nigam Shrestha, and he had also assisted ‘Loot‘ as an assistant director. ‘Chadke’ features Namrata Shrestha, Robin Tamang, Arpan Thapa, Dayahang Rai, and Sushil Pokharel in leading roles.

Story

Chitwan is ruled by a multi-ethnic six-member gang named Royal gang. The leader of Royal gang, Chewang Lama, haa political backing and his gang smuggles and sells Chitwan National Park animals to foreigners. The opposing political party supports a small gang of Bindu and offers Rs. 50 lakhs bounty to kill Chewang Lama. In the meantime, Royal gang’s member obstruct the work of a researcher who had come to study about plants and species in the National Park. The movie is all about these the researcher, Bindu, Chewang, and their gangs. I don’t want to kill the excitement of watching the movie by revealing the plot.
