Friday Release – Resham Filili and Jhola

This week’s release is interesting – a clash between the highly expected comedy movie ‘Resham Filili’ and award winner movie ‘Jhola’. The movie ‘Jhola’ was previously released, before it won Best Actress Award in SAARC Film Festival.

The movie ‘Resham Filili’ won the hearts of many by its music and catchy tune. Everybody’s favorite ‘Jalama…’ has become an instant hit and various cover versions of the song were made and shared in YouTube. For the first time in the history of Nepali movie ‘Resham Filili’ has made more than 50 percent advance booking in the multiplex theaters in Kathamndu.

Year in review – Hit and miss in year 2071 (video)

The year 2071 started on the midway of of April 2014 and will end mid way of April 2015. In the twelve months in between, there were 81 new Nepali movies released in theater. That is a lot less than more than 100 releases in the year before. Out of the releases only a few had succeeded in winning the hearts of the viewers.

The year started with no new movie released on the first Friday. Both the movies released on the second Friday, on April 25, ‘November Rain’ and ‘Kabaddi’ were liked by the viewers.

Friday Release – Seto Bagh, Hawaldar Suntali, Nai Nabhannu La 3

All three of the this Friday’s new release movies are most awaited movies of the year. A historical movie made on popular novel by Diamond Shumsher Rana, ‘Seto Bagh’ appeals to everybody with a little interest in history. Nir Shah has proven his ability in historical movie by making ‘Basanti’. Know to produce hit movie, Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s movie ‘Hawaldar Suntali’ and the third sequel of ‘Nai Nabhannu La’ series are also expected to be liked by the viewers. These movies are releasing in theaters all over Nepal on April 10, 2015.

Hawaldar Suntali

Chhabi camp’s most awaited movie ‘Hawaldar Suntali’ is based on the story of a real person, Suntali Dhami. Suntali was raped by her colleagues in Nepal Police. Three of the accused were jailed when found guilty. The movie however seem to be more commercial than a biography. It was a surprising revelation that the actress who played Suntali Dhami in the film hasn’t met the real Suntali so far. It seems, the director and the producers didn’t want Shilpa Pokhrel to meet the person who she was supposed to play in the movie.

Friday Release, Tanab

This week only one movie ‘Tanab’ is releasing in theater on April 3, 2015. It is a relief at the time when three or more movies are being released every week. Previously another movie ‘Paap’ was also scheduled to release on the same date. But, the movie is now delayed for a few weeks.

A movie directed by Rishi Neupane, ‘Tanab’ is made on a real incident. The movie features Nirmal Century with actresses Ragini Khadgi and Ani Kunwar. The actor Century is featured as a lover boy and action actor.

Friday Release, Bhul Bhulaiyaa and Sadanga

Two new Nepali movies are releasing in theater this week. A triangular love story ‘Bhul Bhulaiya’ and a crime thriller movie ‘Sadanga’ are releasing on March 27, 2015.

A presentation of Luminous Pictures, ‘Sadanga’ is directedb y Suraj Sunuwar. The movie features Bijaya Lama, Anup Baral, Saugat Malla, Priyanka Karki, Sauram Raj Tuladhar, Nabin Manandhar and A. Gurung. The movie full of well known and talented artists is one of the awaited movies by the viewers. The movie is shot by Narendra Mainali, edited by Nimesh Shrestha, written by Suraj Sunuwar and produced by Samir Snuwar.

Friday Release, Mala

This Friday, on March 20, 2015, ‘Mala’ is the only movie released in theaters. The movie made on thriller theme is a story of a dead soul. Actress Priyanka Karki is featured as the central character and is mostly mute throughout the movie.

The movie also features Aryan Sigdel, Sumina Ghimire, Luniva Tuladhar, Sambhu Thapa, Bidhya Karki, Namita Acharya, Shishir Rana and others.

A presentation of Shishir Rana, ‘Mala’ is made under Nakshatra Films banner. Sudeep Bhupal Singh ‘Bobbie’ is the director of the movie.

This Friday on March 14, 2015 two new Nepali movies are releasing on theater – Subash Meche‘s action movie ‘Killa’ and Rishi Neupane‘s movie ‘Josh’. Both the movies are action themed movie and are targeted towards the similar movie audiences. Both the movies feature dancer Priya Rijal in their respective item dances.

The movie made on the story of a person who controls a certain area is the movie ‘Killa’. The movie features Subash Meche, Surabhi Jain, Wilson Bikram Rai, Pukar Bhattarai, Sange Gurung, Umesh Khadka and others. The movie directed by Himal KC features the Saurav Lama in camera, music by Bikash Chaudhari and script by Pradeep Bhardwoj.

Friday Release – Bhhimdatta, Zhigrana and Punarjanma

This Friday, three more Nepali movies are being released in theater. A historical bio-pic ‘Bhhimdutta’, a suspense thriller ‘Zhigrana’ and a social drama film ‘Punarjanma’ are releasing in theaters all over Nepal. All three movies are considered movies with potential.

The movies are targeted to different audiences. ‘Bhimdatta’ is targeted to audience interested in political issues and historical events. The movie got an ‘UA’ certificate. ‘Zhigrana’ got an ‘A’ certificate and is targeted to the viewers interested in suspense and thriller in movies. ‘Punarjanma’ is suitable for all types of audience with an ‘U’ certificate. Friday Release, Ajhai Pani and Mission Paisa Reloaded

This Friday, on February 27, two new movies are releasing – ‘Ajhai Pani’ and ‘Mission Paisa Reloaded’. The last film of the late director Alok Nembang, ‘Ajhai Pani’ was premiered three days before the release among film artists and journalists.

Mission Paisa 2 Reloaded

The sequel of the movie ‘Mission Paisa’ (watch the original ‘Mission Paisa’) is an action comedy movie by director Simosh Sunuwar. The movie features Nisha Adhikari, Amir Gautam, Resh Marahatta and Harshika Shrestha in leading role. The script of the film is written by Prachanda Man Shrestha and is jointly produced by madhav Wagle and Narendra Maharjan. The censor board has awarded a PG certificate to the film.

Friday release, Ichchha

This Friday on Februray 20, 2015 only one Nepali movie, ‘Ichhya’ (or ‘Ichchha’ as shown in the poster) is releasing in theater. Before the final release in theater, the movie was premiered on Sunday evening in F Cube multiplex. The film crew and journalists were invited to the premier show.

The movie directed by Munal Ghimire is made under the banner PLM Films named after its three producers Nabin Shrestha, Laxman Poudel and Prakash Ghimire. The movie features Dayahang Rai, Subash Thapa, Dipsikha Shahi, Om Pratik, Deshbhakta Khanal, Aakash Pal, Ayushma Karki, and Rashmi Bhatta in main roles. The movie is made on a social story about marriage. The movie tries to give a message that marriage should not be forced upon the youngsters.

Friday Release, Suntali and One Way

Two new Nepali movies are released on this Friday, February 13, 2015. The movies released to take advantage of the Valentine Day crowd on Feb 14, ‘One Way’ and ‘Suntali’ both are the awaited movies. Both the movies look promising but, we need to wait a while to know which of the films appeals the love birds.

One Way

The movie featuring Siddhartha Gurung, Mala Subba, Karishma Manandhar, Rabin Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai and others is a gangster themed film. The movie got positive reviews on the premier show held on Wednesday. The movie directed by Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’ is shot by three cameras. The film by RC Pictures banner is a story of new generation and old generation and night life in Kathmandu.

Fours new films in theater, Escape, Rath, Logne Manche and Sunpani

It is no secret that the Nepali film market is limited and there are not many viewers of Nepali films. Because of the competition created by the high budget Bollywood and Hollywood films, Nepali films don’t have that big viewer base for a lot of Nepali films. In this context, release of multiple Nepali films every week is scary for the genuine film producers.

This week, 4 new films are releasing in theater. Whatever may be the case, such a release doesn’t make any business sense. Dividing the viewers in a lot of films don’t help the film industry.

Escape

The movie made on the story of a person who has overcome the indulgence of drugs and aim to change the social equation. The movie featuring Pradeep Khadka and Reema Bishowkarma is directed by Ananta Ghimire.

Friday Release – Sambodhan and Tiger the Real Hero

UPDATE – We had missed the release of another movie. This is an update to add the release of ‘Tiger the Real Hero’ on January 30.

This Friday on January 30, 2015 Nepali movie featuring Namrata Shrestha, Binaya Bhatta and Dayahang Rai in leading role, ‘Sambodhan’ is releasing. The movie by ‘Hostel‘ and ‘Jerry’ famed director, Hemraj BC, is expected to be liked by Nepali audience.

‘Sambodhan’ marks the debut of student politician and the president of Nepal Student Union, Tri Chandra College, Binaya Bhatta. Other actors include Prasant Tamrakar and Suleman Shankar (Iku). ‘Sambodhan’ is a presentation of Saroj Neupane for Red Rose Entertainment and Blue Throat Films. The film features music by Jayan, script of the director Hemraj BC, produced by Saroj Neupane and Bishnu Lama.

This Friday, on January 23, 2015 new Nepali film ‘Aago 2’ is releasing in theater. The sequel of the successful movie released 14 years ago is directed by Madan Ghimire. The movie featuring Sushil Chhetri, Ganesh Giri, Sarika Ghimire, and Priya Rijal is produced by Kishan Pokharel and Kiran Thapa. The movie is made on the story of social and political turmoil in Nepal.

The main highlight of the film according to the director are:

Leaders – the film shows how leaders have been playing villains in Nepali society
Love story – The movie also feature the love story of the characters played by Sarika Ghimire, a daughter of a leader and Ganesh Giri, a patriotic journalist.
Action – The action of Sushil Chhetri is the main attraction in the film.
Item girl Priya Rijal – The Item dance of the hot model and actress is also one of the attraction of the film.
Music – Music by Bikash Chaudhari is another attraction of the film.

Friday Release, Soul Sister

The Highly High production film ‘Soul Sister’ was released in QFX, Big Movies, FCube and Q’s Cinemas on Thursday, January 15. In other theaters the film was released on Friday, January 16. The debut movie of actress Namrata Shrestha as a producer was also premiered in Central Cinema.

The film featuring Rajesh Hamal, Namrata Shrestha, Deepak Sharma and Rabina Deshraj in leading role is directed by Prasant Rasaili. Although the initial critical review of the film is positive, the viewers have complained that it is not easy to understand.
