Rekha Thapa finally got married in court – husband is a NRN businessman

According to latest report, popular Nepali actress Rekha Thapa has married Balram Shahi, a NRN living in Israel for a long time. Originally from Jajarkot, Balram Shahi and Rekha Thapa were married in court on an undisclosed date in February of 2022.

Rekha debuted in Nepali film industry in the 2056BS release Nepali movie “hero’. She later married the producer of the movie, Chhabi Raj Ojha. After being married for 10 years, they got divorced in 2014. After that she was living alone with her mother. According to reports, Rekha and Shahi were in love for a long time and Rekha admitted her intent of getting married in early 2059.


I wish Rekha Thapa and Balram Shahi a very lovely relationship and with them a very happy married life.

Rekha Thapa’s relationship history

Rekha Thapa and Chhabi Raj Ojha have officially divorced after 4 years of unofficial divorce in 2016. They lived together for a decade before deciding in divorcing. They signed the legal paper and made it legal in August of 2016. Right after the divorce, Chhabi got married for the fourth time. He married another actress Shilpa Pokharel, but that relationship has also ended now.

While shooting and post-production of ‘Himmatwali’ Rekha was rumored of having an affair with the actor of the movie Sudarshan Gautam. But, right after the release of the movie, Rekha and Sudarshan parted their ways.

In January 2012 I wrote – “There is a rumor about the problem in the marriage between actress Rekha Thapa and producer Chhabi Ojha. Rekha had been complaining about Chhabi trying to act like a guardian rather than a friend. Although, she later denied about such a rumor, it is clear that the relationship is not as smooth as it should be.”

This is an update to a post originally posted on Jan 29, 2012. A new/updated version was posted 2 years ago on Dec 6, 2016. This updated version includes the recent divorces including that of Manoj Gajurel, Reema Bishowkarma, Milan Amatya, Arunima Lamsal and Neelam Dhungana.

It is not only in the Nepali movie industry, divorce among Nepali couple has been in the increasing trend these days. This might be because, compromising is not in the cards of today’s youth. I think, there is nothing wrong to get out of the relationship that is not working out. But, divorce also brings a lot of pain and problems to the both the couple involved. The traditional Nepali society has made it even worse by tagging them ‘bad example’ to the society.

10 Smoking Hot Actresses – Priyanka, Namrata to Rekha Thapa (Update)

This is an update to a previous post on the subject. I have also updated the video report for this post.

The original video was made on the suggestion of one of my Twitter friends. The suggestion was make video report on Nepali actresses who smoke and drink in real life. Actually I wasn’t really interested in doing the report in the beginning. It was their personal freedom and I wasn’t a person to judge them by their habits. Drinking is not a taboo anymore. And, smoking is a bad habit almost all of the smokers want to quit.

Unless a drunk person acts irresponsibly, drinking doesn’t usually interface with the other people. But, smoking can expose non-smokers passive smoking. Smokers can at times be a nuisance too. But, I wasn’t willing to discuss the issue until I remember Rajesh Hamal’s incident during the shooting of one of his films. Then I prepared a video report (attached at the end of the post). The following video is the update to the video.

The movie ‘Jaljala’ is about the Maoist civil war and is a presentation of The Revolutionary Cine Concern. It is sponsored by Maoists and the story of the Maoist war in Nepal and a fighter named Jaljala was made into a movie to justify the civil war. The leading actress Rekha Thapa featured as the leading lady in the movie became close to the Maoist leaders while doing the film. She later joined the party. But, her political journey was cut short when she left the party to join Rastriya Prajatantra Party. During the election, Rekha and Ayush were also featured in a political song used for the promotion of the party candidates.

The Maoist leader Nandakishor Pun (Pasang) is named the person behind the movie. The guest artists in the movie are Ganesh Bhandari, Maila Lama, Hari Siwakoti, Purushottam Dhungel and Deepesh Pun. The official producer of the movie is Kashiram Bhusal, action direction by Rajendra Khadgi, art direction by Gopal Bhutani, background score by Manoj Rajbhandari, editing by Milan Shrestha, script / dialogue by Maunata Shrestha, choreography by Kabiraj Gahatraj, cinematography by Bishnu Kalpit and music by Chetan Sapkota. The story of the movie is written by the director Shivaji Lamichane. The movie was released on January 11, 2012.

Mangalam, Ganja Baja and Hurrey – Success report

This week three movies were released on Friday. Nawal Nepal directed movie ‘Mangalam’, Yam Thapa’s movie ‘Hurrey’ and Ganesh Dev Pandey directional movie ‘Ganja Baja’. Out of the three movies, two of them are comedy genre movie and another social and love story movie. Because of the success of comedy films in these days, a lot of producers have been producing comedy films. It seems, people are more inclined towards non-comedy films. Two of the most recent successful movies – ‘Kri’ and ‘Kanchhi’ both were non-comedy films.

According to reports, ‘Mangalam’ has received a lot of viewers. The film produced by one of the most successful producers of Nepali film industry, Chhabi Raj Ojha, is being supported by his ex-wife Rekha Thapa. Rekha also told that it was her “own film.” She also appreciated the work of the director, two new actors and actress Shilpa Pokharel. Other viewers have also told that the movie is heart touching. Rekha says, ‘Even if you have never cried watching films, this film will make you cry.” But, I think, Rekha didn’t sound any critical and the appreciation remark seem to be motivated by something other than the film itself.

Chhabi Raj Ojha has told that he had tried to capture the multiplex cinema market with ‘Loafer’. But, the movie failed and this is the second time he has attempted to attract young audience and has been quite successful.

Regarding the two comedy movies, ‘Hurrey’ has got more viewers than that in ‘Ganja Baja’. The producer of ‘Hurrey has told that those who watched the film have liked it. The trailer of the film has got almost a million viewers:

The song ‘Theki Ma Dahi’ has received in excess of 2 million views.

About Ganja Baja, the movie didn’t get much viewers. Those what watch the film belong to the new age kids. The trailer of the film is not much popular in YouTube.

8 Years in 5 Minutes, Rekha Thapa Holi highlights from 2010 to 2018

I have compiled a video of the Holi celebration of Rekha Thapa from 2010 to the last year’s Holi, Holi 2016. As the Holi 2017 is approaching (the festival is on March 12, 2017) I looked back to the history and compiled the list so that I can update it with the new information on the current Holi. I will share the updated video on or after March 12. The following video lists:

  • Rekha Thapa’s Holi in 2010 – Fun filled Holi celebration with Ayush Rijal at Namaste Nepal. That was before Rekha divorced Chhabi Raj Ojha.
  • Holi in 2011 – Video and photos of the celebration at Karishma’s home at Godawari. Almost all the celebrities in the Nepali film industry had gathered in the holi celebration.
  • Holi in 2012 – Video of Rekha dancing with others while Rajesh Payal Rai sang.
  • Holi in 2013 – Holi celebration with ‘Hamesha’ actor Sabin Shrestha and others.
  • Holi in 2014 – This year, Rekha Thapa was busy in the shooting of ‘Himmatwali’. One of the songs in movie was shot during Holi featuring holi colours.
  • Holi in 2015 – Rekha celebrated Holi with actresses Priyanka Karki and Keki Adhikari at Red Studio.
  • Holi in 2016 – At that time, Rekha was promoting her movie ‘Rampyari’. So, she participated in almost all of the major Holi celebration parties in Kathmandu to promote her movie. She also went to Karishma’s residence, Red Studios and other places.
  • Holi in 2017 – in Karishma Manandhar’s home and promotion of her movie ‘Palash’.

The action is directed by NB Maharjan, choreography of Raju Shah, music of Laxman Shesh, editing of Banish Shah and cinematography of Bhim Rana.

Action star Nikhil Upreti, beautiful and a well known actress Bipana Thapa, top actress of Nepali film industry, Rekha Thapa, pilot actor Bijaya Lama, Ramit Dhungana and Mithila Sharma are the main attraction of the moive. The action and masala love story film will not disappoint you.

This is one of the few movies Nikil is featured with Rekha Thapa before they started having problem with each other. These days they are trying to get together. After, Rekha’s stardom dwindle, she is trying to mend her relationship. Rekha’s attempt to do that with Aryan Sigdel failed in ‘Rudra Priya’.

Artists in Politics, Badri, Rekha, Karishma, Komal and so on

At the time of election, every citizen are inclined towards one political force or the others. But, as the voting in an election is secret and people don’t need to tell who they have voted for, one doesn’t need to tell about political inclination. But, the artists we are active politically have to show their artistic talent for the party or the candidate they endorse. Here are the list of popular artists and their political inclination.

Komal Oli – RPP to UML

Singer and journalist Komal Oli decided to go into full time politics and resigned from the Radio Nepal job a while ago. But, as soon she was elected the central committee member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) the party divided into two parties. After that, she decided to join CPN UML. Although Komal wasn’t allowed to represent the party in the election Now, she is promoting the party in the election.

Komal Oli had expected to get ticket to represent CPN UML at the Dang Constituency 3 in the election. But, things didn’t go as she expected. Now, she is participating in the election campaign. Based on her previous stances, there is no gurantee that she will continue to represent the party.

Radhika Hamal – Nepali Congress

Well known singer Radhika Hamal has chosen Nepali Congress to sing the election songs. Hamal had also participate in the local election but, was defeated.

Hamal is asking the people to vote for the candidates of Congress in the current election.

Badri Pangeni, CPN UML

Well known singer of ‘Sasurali ma’ and other popular folk singer is affiliated to CPN UML and Bam Gathabandhan in this election. He sings songs promoting the party, the leaders KP Oli and Prachanda. He says that he is not worried about being tagged a party-singer because he had been doing that for the last 23 years.

Although he will be singing election songs during the election, he will still be a singer and will sing for the people and art.

Manoj Gajurel – UML and Maoist


Known for his comedy caricature, Manoj Gajurel is also asking the people to vote for CPN UML and CPN Maoist candidates in the election. He has been active member of CPN UML in the past and he is open about his political inclination.

Manoj says that an artist is free to choose the political party they support. He also believes his fans won’t be disappointed because of his political activities.

Karishma Manandhar (Naya Shakti)


Actress Karishma has transformed herself from a fully devoted actress to a fully devoted political leader after joining Naya Shakti party of Baburam Bhattarai. Although the party is yet to be recognized by the people, she is actively campaigning for the party and its leaders. She is also one of the candidate in the election.

A lot of members of the new party left Baburam after a while, Karishma is still with Baburam. The artists who joined the party with Karishma – Saroj Khanal and Ashok Sharma are not active in the party activities. Karishma is giving her full time to the party and expects to return to film industry after the election.

Rekha Thapa, Not sure

Actress Rekha Thapa’s political inclination has been very unstable. She entered CPN Maoist at the time of the second election of the CA. But, her candidacy was withdrawn when she wasn’t registered as a voter. A while ago she left the party and joined RPP with Komal Oli. While Komal Oli has left the party Rekha decided to leave Kamal Thapa and join the party faction of Pashupati Shumsher JBR.

Rekha’s activities in political parties seem to be having negative impact in her popularity. The proof is her latest release, ‘Rudrapriya’. Although the movie features two of the top actors of the Nepali film industry, people didn’t go to theatre to watch it.

In the election, Rekha went to Sindhpalchowk in the election campaign of Pashupati Shumsher.

Actor Nir Shah is an active Nepali Congress supporter. But, Shah isn’t seen in the election campaigns.

The political activities of the past include Nawal Khadka and Deepak Shrestha. Nawal Khadka is affiliated with the CPN Maoist and he had also made movies for the party. But, his movies were not much successful. Khadka is actively participating in the election campaigns. Director Deepak Shrestha is also actively participating the election campaigns of Bam Gathabandan.

Musician Chetan Sapkota is also one of the supporters of Maoist party. He also helped a lot of artists to join the party. But, these days, Sapkota is not seen in election campaigns.

Movies of Rekha Thapa with Biraj Bhatt

Here are the movies featuring the top actress of the Nepali movie industry, Rekha Thapa and top action star of Nepali movie industry, Biraj Bhatt. Biraj left the film industry after he became a well known Bhojpuri actor.

Rekha and Biraj are not in good terms these days. Rekha is still active in producing more Nepali movies but, Biraj is trying to comeback in Nepali film industry after ruling the Bhojpuri film industry for some time. His comeback film ‘Jaya Parshuram’ however wasn’t as successful as expected. When Rekha made up with Aryan Sigdel and signed him up in her home production movie, ‘Rudrapriya’, a possibility of seeing Biraj and Rekha together now seem like a possibility. But, Aryan’s comeback in Rekha Films wasn’t as successful as expected.

About ‘Kasle Choryo Mero Man’

The movie is the 11th movie by producer Chhabi Raj Ojha under Rekha Films banner. The movie is the fifth movie by Rekha films banner. That was before Rekha and Chhabi decided to divorce. The movie directed by Sabir Shrestha featured Aryan Sigdel opposite to Rekha Thapa. After the movie, actor Aryan and Rekha stopped talking with each other for about six years. They met in 2017 to work in ‘Rudrapriya’, released in Tihar this year. The movie however failed to impress the viewers. The movie also won the Best Movie award at the CG Film Award.
