‘Saayad’ wins best film award in National Film Award 2069

With 7 awards, Nepali movie ‘Saayad‘ won the best film award in the National Film Award 2069. The film award ceremony was held on the occasion of 50-years of Nepali movies at Tribhuvan Army Club, Sundhara.

Sraj Garach got married after a decade long affair

After more than a decade-long affair, the actor Sraj Garach has got married to his girlfriend Anjana Mishra.

Sraj started his acting career in the Nepali movie ‘Swor’. After that, he had worked in ‘Mayako Bari’, ‘My Life, and ‘Tyo Dus Ghnata’. Sraj’s upcoming movie include ‘Nagbeli’, ‘Santrash’ and ‘Kirtipur’. Before starting acting, Sraj was known as a model, Suraj Karki.

Journalist Laxman Subedi to direct ‘Euta Sathi’

Film journalist Laxman Subedi has decided to start directing movies. Subedi has bee writing news about Nepali movies for the last 13 years and this is the first time he is going to be the subject of film news.

In a program organized in Kathmandu on July 16 Subedi announced the movie named ‘Mero Sathi’ – to be made on entertainment theme. Subedi told that he wanted to rectify the problems he sees in other’s movies.

Namrata Shrestha confirmed to do Ekata Mahat in Purple Days

It was in 2009 we talked about the movie – ‘Purple Days’ to be made on the life story of HIV positive social activist Ekata Mahat and Namrata Shrestha to do the role of the lead character. Now it seems, the movie will be made and Namrata has signed the agreement. The movie is expected to go on floor in a month.

The movie is being made by Eye Core Films. In the last two years, script was written based on the investigations and research on the life of Ekata.

Bhaichung Bhutia featured in Nepali movie Shisha

The Indian football star, Bhaichung Bhutia, is going to be featured in a Nepali movie, ‘Shisha’. Bhutia is the ex-captain of Indian football team. He had spent a long career in the Indian football team and has recently retired from playing.

Bhaichung was born in Sikkim and love Nepali language. He had spent about four hours in the shooting of the scene featuring him in the movie and he did it for free.

Rekha Thapa got married (to a tree) UPDATE

In a religious ceremony Rekha Thapa got married to a Bar (Banyan) tree. Banyan is viewed as the male counterpart of female plant peepal. In Hindu religion, banyan tree represents immortality.

Rekha conducted a yagya ceremony and a religious puja. Although she hasn’t revealed the reason behind the puja, some believe it has something to do with her upcoming movie ‘Kali‘. Rekha is planning to release the movie in Dashain to compete with her ex-husband Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s ‘Loafer’.

Rekha Thapa’s Kali and Chhabi Raj Ojha’s Loafer releasing on October 11

Actress and producer Rekha Thapa has announced the release date of her upcoming movie ‘Kali’ on Dashain, Fulpati day, Ashoj 25 (October 11, 2013). The day coincides with the release date of her ex-husband Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s production ‘Loafer’.

After Rekha and Chhabi divorced, Chhabi registered Chhabi Raj Films and produced the first movie ‘Hamesha’ in association with Rekha’s Rekha Films. But, in his second movie – ‘Loafer’, Chhabi introduced a new actress, Rajani KC in the leading role. Rekha also started ‘Kali’ on her own to compete with Chhabi.

Nepali Film Festival and Fashion show held in New York on 31st ANA convention

On the occasion of the 31st convention of American Nepali Association (ANA) held on July 4 to July 6, Nepali movies  were shown on each day. In addition to Nepali films, popular comedy actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and  Hari Bansha Acharya (MaHa) also conducted a comedy program. MaHa’s program was one of the the main attractions of the event.

The movies featured in the convention include ‘Highway’, ‘Badhshala’, and ‘Visa Girl‘ on the first day. On the second day ‘Chadke’ ‘Mutu’ and ‘Uma’ were screened. The cost of each show was set at $10.

ATM ban lifted in court ruling, releasing on July 26

The movie ‘ATM’ (Any Time Masti), banned after it’s second show in theater has been cleared for screening after a court ruling.

The censor board had asked the film makers to remove some scenes before it was suitable for screening in theater. The board banned the movie when it found that the film makers didn’t comply with the decision of the board and didn’t remove some of the objected scenes while screening the movie in theater.
