Rekha and Shilpa hugged, Chhabi went to Rudra Priya premier

When Rekha Thapa’s ex-husband Chhabi Raj Ojha went to Rekha’s upcoming movie ‘Rudra Priya’ premier with his to-be-wife Shilpa Pokharel, Shilpa and Rekha met and hugged each other. Chhabi and Shilpa went together but refused to be photographed together in the program.

The premier show of Rekha’s movie was held on October 16. The Rekha Thapa and Aryan Sigdel starrer movie is releasing on this Friday. In the premier Chhabi didn’t go to the stage but Shilpa went to the stage to meet Rekha Thapa. Rekha received Shilpa with a smile and hugged her. The scene was interesting as Rekha was an ex-wife of Chhabi and Shilpa is going to be wife in near future.

It was the first time these two actresses have met each other in a public function. Although journalists had requested Chhabi Raj Ojha to go to the stage and pose for the photograph with his ex and future wives, he refused.

Shilpa had entered Chhabi Ojha’s camp after Rekha had divorced after a decade long marriage and started her own production business.

Rudrapriya Premier

‘Rudrapriya’ is releasing on Kartik 2 on Laxmi Pooja. The premier show was held on Monday at Kumari Theatre in Kathmandu. In the premier show the main actors of the movie Rekha Thapa, Aryan Sigdel, Rajan Ishan, director Sudip Bhupal Singh, producer Ramesh MK Poudel were present. Actress Rekha was with her mother Saraswati Thapa.

Top 5 scandals in Nepali movie industry

This is an update on the post I made a year ago in 2016. There was a new leak of photos of actress Susana Dhakal a while ago. In the photo she is seen in a hotel strategically covering the sensitive parts but without any clothes. The photos were uploaded in her own Facebook page. After the leak she told that she had lost her mobile phone and apparently those photos were in her phone and somebody uploaded them without her consent. The event is a warning to everybody what can happen if you keep the photos you don’t want others to see in your phone. Susana’s scandal was not that big when compared to the following five scandals.

Scandals and the movie industry go hand-in-hand. Scandals are tragic in nature. People need to be more tolerant on such issues. I have compiled a video report on the top 5 scandals involving the Nepali movie industry personalities.

Arunima Lamsal Divorced, Who else divorced in the Nepali film industry?

Actress (I can add a ‘former’ in front of the word) Arunima Lamsal has divorced her husband of 12 years, in the USA recently. The mother of a six years old daughter decided to separate after she felt her freedom compromised by her husband. According to reports, Arunima has taken custody of her daughter Akshyata Aryal and is living with her parents in Baltimore, USA. Arunima’s mother Radha Lamsal (Bhabu Lamsal) is also a well known actress in the Nepali television and big screen films.

The unsteady relationship is one of the characteristics of the celebrities. Problem in relationships, and divorces are widely talked about and make news. That is one of the reasons there is a perception that relations of celebrities are temporary. But, there are a lot of celebrities who are happily married.

Another Miss Nepal is going to be a mother, Zenisha Moktan announces pregnancy

After Miss Nepal 1995 Sumi Khadka, Miss Nepal World 1997 Jharana Bajracharya and Miss Nepal 2002 Malvika Subba, now it is the turn of another ex-Miss Nepal to become a mother. Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan, who got married last year (read Zenisha’s marriage report), is going to give birth to a child soon. Moktan with a clearly visible baby bump is in a vacation in preparation for the child birth.

The expectant mother and father had organized a party to announce the pregnancy a while ago. Here is a short video report of the event.

Is it a boy or a girl?

The couple had also announced if it is a boy or a girl in the event. To create the suspense they played a game. To-be father held two balloons with blue coloured confetti in one and pink coloured confetti in another. To-be mother had held two plates with pink and blue confetti in them. While Dikesh Malhotra created a tension by taking time in squishing one of the balloons, Zenisha waited excitedly to throw the confetti from one of the plates.

Will Rudra Priya release simultaneously in TV and film hall? Hall owners say No

Rekha Thapa has announced that her upcoming movie ‘Rudra Priya’ will release at the theatre and a TV station on the same day – on Kartik 2. In an announcement program held on October 9, 2017 Rekha Thapa told made the announcement. Rekha told, “I have viewers not only in the cities but also remote places in Nepal. There are no film halls in remote areas. For the viewers who don’t have film theatres near their homes, I have asked the viewers to watch the movie in TV.” She had also asked the viewers who live in places near theatres to go to the theatre to watch it.

‘Rudra Priya’ is not the first movie that is planning to release in TV and in theatre simultaneously. In Fulpati, ‘Mero Paisa Khoi’ was also released in Dish Home TV. But, the organization of theatre owners have protested the decision of the film producers to release them in TV at the same time as the film theatres.

After the TV station Dish Home purchase the TV rights of new movies to release on the same day as the release in theatre, the theatre owners have started to worry. They have made a decision not to let the producers release their movies in TVs. In a meeting held by the Nepal Chalchitra Sangh a decision was made to stop film producers to release the movies in TV.

Ashishma Nakarmi to produce Laakhey Bhaju, another actress debuts as producer

It seems every actresses are producing movies these days. After Rekha Thapa, Jharana Thapa, Shilpa Pokharel, Richa Sharma, Namrata Shrestha, Nisha Adhikari, Deepa Shree Niraula and so on, another actress has decided to produce a movie – Ashishma Nakarmi. Ashishma is producing a Newari Language movie titled ‘Laakhey Bhaju’. The movie was announced in a program held in Kathmandu.

The movie to be made on the popular dance in Newar community – Lakhe dance. The movie is made on the story of a love story of a Lakhe dancer. Ashishma will be the lead actress in the movie. With Ashishma, Sohit Manandhar, Madandas Shrestha, Nagina Joshi and Krishna Bhakta Maharjan will be the main actors. The movie is presented by Ashishma and is produced jointly by Narendra Maharjan, Gopal Kaji Kayastha, Chij Kumar Shrestha, Sundar Rajbhandari and Deepak Shrestha.

Dashain 2017 photo highlights, Rajesh Hamal, Karishma, Rekha, Jharana and everybody eles

A little late but, I have kept up with the tradition of sharing Dashain photos of Nepali celebrities. Highlights of this year’s dashain starting with Bhuwn KC offering tika to Anmol KC :

Prachanda celebrated Dashain after 22 years. (Read more here) That was not all, his party also joined with CPN UML to participate in the election. It all sums up to his desire to get into power by giving up his hardcore stance.

Karishma’s daughter, Kabita Manandhar, was in Nepal for Dashain from USA. Actress Jharana Thapa’s daughter Suhani had also arrived in Nepal from the USA. Actress Priyanka Karki celebrated dashain with her sweetheart, Ayushman Desraj Shrestha. While Ayushman celebrated with Priyanka, his ex-girlfriend Paramita RL Rana celebrated Dashain alone.   Continue reading

After 22 years, Prachanda celebrated Dashain, why?

The CPN Maoist chief, Puspa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda celebrated Dashain for the first time in 22 years. He took Dashain tika in his residence in Lazimpat. He also offered tika to his wife, Sita Dahal. Sita offered tika to her children, grand children and other relatives. According to the son of Prachanda, Prakash Dahal, Prachanda took tika from his mother’s maternal uncle.

Prakash wrote in his Facebook – “More than a religious festival, Dashain is an opportunity to meet the relatives, social gathering.” He adds, “We respect Dashain as much as we respect religion.”

Like the previous years, Prachanda however didn’t offer tika to anybody else expect his wife, Sita Dahal. Prakash said, “Like previous years, dad didn’t offer us the tika. We took tika from the mom’s hand. In the previous Dashain, we used to take tika from mom.”

Why now, what changed Prachanda?

Prachanda used to advocate against Dasain festival being a religious event, not good for the low income and low caste Nepali people. After starting civil war and making himself one of the most powerful person in the country, he has changed his stance on the celebration. Why is that? Why did Prachanda back up after more than two decades of not celebrating Dashain?

Dashain of Milan Amatya this year will be different … why did she divorce?

The marriage of a well known Nepali singer, Milan Amatya, has ended in the court. The singer from India who married a Nepali businessman, Mention Amatya, has finally ended their 6-years-old marriage in the Kathmandu district court. There are conflicting reports on the reason behind Milan’s divorce.

Last year, Milan had shared a selfie (or is it welfie?) with her husband and Amatya family members after Dashain Tika. This year, a few days before Dashain, they are officially separated. Dashain 2017 will not see Mention in the same frame of Milan. A video report on why:

Who is Milan Amatya?

Singer Milan Amatya was born in Assam, India. In Assam, she was known as Milan Newar. Brought up in a family of music and art, she had started singing in a young age. Milan had been a singer for about a decade before she decided to come to Nepal. She had given voices to songs in Assamese, Hindi and Rajasthani languages. Milan’s younger sister was married and living Dharan. She came to Nepal to record some Nepali songs. At that time, her sister’s family had helped her to meet Mention for marriage.

33 rd birthday of Garima Panta, special celebration with her husband (photos)

This year, it is the second birthday after Garima Panta married Hari Thapaliya in 2016. After the marriage, the couple have shared photos of themselves and they don’t seem to have any close friends. The 33rd birthday celebration of Garima was held in Belgium. According to the status and photos shared by Garima, it was a small private ceremony.

In one of the statuses Garima has written “The life was going on while understanding it and the world. But, when I met you I have understood the life and the world in a better manner. I wish I could spend thousands of the lives with you. That is all I want.” (Rough English translation of the Nepali status in Instagram).

Who is Garima Panta?

The actress of ‘Jhola’, Garima raised in the fame and popularity after the success of the movie. But, after the movie, she left the film industry and the country to marry a NRN, Hari Thapaliya in Belgium. The couple are running a restaurant in the European country. After Jhola, another movie of Garima Panta, ‘Teen Ghumti’ had also received positive feedback from the viewers.

Neeta’s 25 birthday announcement, production house

On the occasion of her 25th birthday, actress Neeta Dhungana has annouced a production house. On September 14, Neeta organized a birthday party and announced ‘Neeta Film Production’. Talking in the event she told, “In the last few years, the movies I worked failed to impress the viewers. I have decided to produce my own movies and give viewers the films they want. I am looking for a good script and the director. If everything goes as planned, I will start working in the first movie in six months.

Many Nepali actresses have produced their own movies but, only a few actress have been successful as a producer. Most of the actresses who have been successful had their husbands backing them up. For example, Rekha Thapa was successful because of Chhabi Raj Ojha. After she divorced Chhabi, the movies she has produced haven’t been as successful as before. But, Rekha is considered one of the most successful producers in the Nepali film industry. Similarly, actress Jharana Thapa had also been successful producer. Jharana’s husband Sunil Kumar Thapa was the force behind her production. Despite of the support of her producer husband, actress Karishma Manandhar has failed in her production ventures. Now, actress Shilpa is producing movies with the help of Chhabi Raj Ojha. Actress Pooja Sharma is producing movies with the help of Sudarshan Thapa and Deepa Shree Niraula is producing movies with Deepak Raj Giri.

Pradeep Khadka bodyguards show-off, wannabe Anmol KC?

Anmol KC made news when he appeared with two bodyguards when he visited film-halls during the release of his movie ‘Dreams’. It is not clear if the extra security was necessary or was only a publicity stunt. One thing is for sure, other actors are also following Anmol KC for the sake of publicity.

Being covered by bodyguards in film halls makes sense. It is not easy for the artists to deal with the crowd. That was seen during the release of ‘A Mero Hajur 2’. The six bodyguards had hard time protecting the actors Salinman Baniya, Samragyee RL Shah and Salon Basnet.

Dhamala wife, mother of two kids to debut as an actress, Anurag annouced

The wife of well known journalist, Rishi Dhamala, has decided to produce a movie. In a program held in Kathmandu, a new movie named ‘Anurag’ was announced. In the movie, the producer, Aliza Gautam will also be the lead actress.

It is a most common trend of the Nepali film industry – actors invest in the movie they are featured in leading role. As the movies are made only for themselves, the directors and other artists don’t give their best. Because of the easy money, the technician’s also don’t provide the optimum amount of the effort in making the movie. Because of these facts, most of the movies produced by the lead actors in the movies are not successful. The latest such example is ‘Rudra’. The movie produced by the actor Bishow Gautam was not successful despite of Nikhil Upreti in negative role – the first in his acting career.

There are a lot of example of films made just to fulfil their desire to be featured in movies. The movie by Aliza Gautam sounds like those movies. She has asked her father to invest in the movie under the banner registered under her daughter’s name.

In the love story movie, a new actor Deepak Ghimire opposite to Aliza. Other actors in the movie include Saroj Khanal, Rupa Rana and Nirmal Sharma.

Nepal Idol controversy, court ordered to stop vote counting, what next? (UPDATE – AP 1 response)

The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the organizer of Nepal Idol reality show to stop counting the vote by the viewers and present at the court on Bhadra 23 (September 10, 2017). According to reports, the court has ordered to submit the originals of the voting to AP1 TV.

The court was responding to the application of Yagyamani Neupane against the organizer of making one-sided decisions on the organization of the show. According to the decision by the district judge, Diwakar Bhatta, the future of the program will be decided after the decision made on September 10.

What is Nepal Idol?

A singing competition reality show franchise titled ‘idol’ had been quite popular in different countries. After a huge success in India titled ‘Indian Idol’ a similar contest is being held in Nepal. The show is being organized by a new Television station by the Annapurna newspaper group, AP1 TV.

Karishma Manandhar goes to school (Admitted to Grade 9, for real), will Rekha follow?

The actress in her 40s has decided that she needs to complete her high school. At the time the daughter is about to get her University degree, the mother, Karishma Manandhar has decided to complete her high school studies.

Karishma had left school when she was studying in grade 8. She never passed the grade as she was busy in acting. When she was engulfed in the limelight of the film world, she had no time for the books. But, from time to time, lack of education haunted Karishma.

Whenever she went out of the film industry, she realized how important education is. After a few initial movies, she went to Mumbai for acting training. She realized that she would have benefited more if she had studied more. When she went to the USA for a few years, lack of education was the main hurdle in getting jobs and even to get the Green Card. She went through English language training and learnt the language.
