NFDC award, second 4-monthly nomination released

Nepal Film Development Company (NFDC) started the National Film Award last year and it has started nominating the best artists every 4 months. The final nomination will be compiled from these nominations. The current nomination is based on the movies released in the last four months (Bhadra 1 to Mangsir end) in theaters.

MaHa Australia Tour, MaHaYatra 2014 to start on January 18

The MaHa duo, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya and other artists are going to perform in various cities of Australia under a tour titled MaHaYatra 2014.

The artists comprising of MaHa, Kiran KC, Basundhara Bhusal, Narendra Kansarkar, Shiva Hari Poudel, Kunti Moktan and Mohit Bamsha Acharya (Haribansha’s son) will also be in the MaHaYatra tour.

The artists are scheduled to reach Australia on January 16. The tour will start from the Australian city Perth on January 18 and will conclude in Sydney on February 2. The events will be conducted in the major cities like Perth, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Alidade, and Sydney.

Rekha meets and supports Raute community, to spend 24 hours with Raute children

While in Hong Kong, Rekha Thapa had announced to support the backward communities like Raute and Chepang. Now, she has converted her words to deeds by meeting the members of the community and supporting them with materials of their daily needs.

To meet the people of Raute community actress Rekha Thapa had headed towards Surkhet on Friday. Rekha and the Rekha Thapa Foundation members met 52 families of Raute in remote Surkhet.  She distributed 52 sacks of rice and some money to the families of the community. The people in the Raute community appreciated Rekha for the community and told that now she has become one of the community member.

Director Shiva Regmi air lifted to Kathmandu in serious condition

Well known Nepali film director Shiva Regmi is fighting for life in a hospital in Balkhu. He was being treated in Chitwan when the condition worsened and was air-lifted to Kathmandu in an air ambulance on Wednesday.

While being treated for pneumonia in the ICU of Chitwan Medical College Hospital. The plan to take him to India for treatment was also postponed because of the worsening health condition.

Bhuwan KC says he won’t leave UML in a statement

After being removed from the candidate list, actor Bhuwan KC has released a press statement about his future direction. In the statement the CPN UML member and actor told that he will remain faithful to the party and support it in the election.

Right after Bhuwan was selected to represent the party in the election, the party members had started to protest his candidacy resulting on the withdrawal of his name from the election candidates. Before that, he had implied that he would join the rival RPP party if he wasn’t made a candidate in the election. Although the political move had convinced the leaders to offer him candidacy only to be withdrawn within a day of it’s publication.

Both Bhuwan KC and Rekha Thapa removed from the election candidates list

After protests from the party workers, Bhuwan KC was removed from the CPN UML election candidate list. Although he was stated to represent party in Kathmandu constituency 1 in the initial list, he was removed after protest. In the final list, Bidhya Neupane will represent the party in the constituency.

In the similar manner, actress Rekha Thapa was also removed from the final candidate list of the CPN Maoist. When Rekha’s attempt to get ticket in Kathmandu failed, she was successful in getting the recommendation from Parsa district. But, in the final list she was replaced by Baliram Shah in Parsa 1 constituency.

Censor Board eyes Shushma Karki’s tattoo on breast

Time again Nepal’s Censor Board is known for acting on the baseless intuition of it’s members. As many of their decision are not based on facts, a protest or judicial decision help them to change their decision. In a latest case, the Board has decided that the tattoo of sun on actress Sushma Karki‘s breast is against patriotic norms.

The decision was made while censoring a movie featuring Sushma in an item dance in her upcoming movie ‘Rajniti’. Although the movie was awarded a PG certificate, the Board has asked the film makers to remove the portions of the movie featuring the actress’ tattoo.

It was not the first time Sushma has shown the tattoo in movies. The posters of her movie ‘Bindaas’ had her featuring the tattoo. But, the Censor Board hadn’t objected on the tattoo at that time.

Soongava selected to participate in Oscars Awards

Nepali movie made on the love story of lesbian couple, ‘Soongava : dance of the orchids’ was selected to represent Nepal in the world’s most prestigious film awards, Oscars Awards. The movie will compete in the Best Foreign Movies category.

In the race to participate in the 86th Academy Awards ‘Soongava’, ‘Sanguro’, ‘Shirish ko Phool’ and ‘Badhshala’ were selected in the first step. A committee led by Bimal Poudel and having Laxminath Sharma, Pradeep Upadhaya, Raju Bikram Thapa and Lokendra Parajuli as members has selected ‘Soongava’ to go to the Awards.

Nirmal Sharma to direct Poojana Pradhan’s ‘Chocolate’

Comedy artist Nirmal Sharma is expanding his role in Nepali movie industry in recent days. He had joined hands with Deepak Raj Giri in producing a comedy movie titled ‘Chha Ekan Chh’. His next project is going to be directed by himself and produced by actress Poojana Stri. The movie titled ‘Chocolate’ is going to be made on the story of street child.

Miss Nepal USA 2013 title awarded to Bartika Rai

On the finale of Miss Nepal USA held in New York at the mid-night of August 17, Bartika Rai was crowned the title – Miss Nepal USA 2013. After winning the title Bartika was awarded $5,000 in scholarship.

22-years-old resident of New York Bartika is 5 feet and 2 inches tall beauty. She enjoys making music, writing articles, and travelling. She was one of the 16 finalists claiming this year’s Miss Nepal US(A) title.

Actress Nisha Adhikari appointed brand ambassador of E-20 car

Nepali actress Nisha Adhikari is selected the brand ambassador of environment friendly Mahendra car E-20. In a ceremony held in Hayat Regency Hotel, Nisha started the sales of the car in Nepal. In the program, journalist Kunda Dikshit bought a car and became the first owner of the car in Nepal.

Nisha said, "It was an awesome experience to be announced the official brand ambassador for E20."  Talking about the benefits of the car, Nisha says, "It has the most amazing apps and is a perfect vehicle for Nepal."

Journalist Laxman Subedi to direct ‘Euta Sathi’

Film journalist Laxman Subedi has decided to start directing movies. Subedi has bee writing news about Nepali movies for the last 13 years and this is the first time he is going to be the subject of film news.

In a program organized in Kathmandu on July 16 Subedi announced the movie named ‘Mero Sathi’ – to be made on entertainment theme. Subedi told that he wanted to rectify the problems he sees in other’s movies.

Bhaichung Bhutia featured in Nepali movie Shisha

The Indian football star, Bhaichung Bhutia, is going to be featured in a Nepali movie, ‘Shisha’. Bhutia is the ex-captain of Indian football team. He had spent a long career in the Indian football team and has recently retired from playing.

Bhaichung was born in Sikkim and love Nepali language. He had spent about four hours in the shooting of the scene featuring him in the movie and he did it for free.
