Bhuwan KC’s son Anamol to walk on his father’s steps

The youngest son of Bhuwan KC is going to act in a movie with his father. Bhuwan KC and his son Anamol will act as father and son in a home production movie called “Sathi ma Timro”.

Bhuwan wanted at least one of his children to work in films for which he has found Anmol interested and capable. His older son Bivek and daughter Kajol are studying in the US.

Anamol KC is studying in grade 10 and is appearing in SLC exam this year. Apart from acting Anamol is also interested in singing. He likes to sing rock and pop songs.

Flood of Beauty Contests (Update)

There was the time when the government didn’t allow Miss Nepal to be held and this is the time when at least three beauty contests are being held in a week.

Tamang beauty contest, Miss Teen Tamang 2009, is being held on December 25 (Poush 10). As I wrote previously, Newari beauty contest, Miss Newa 2009, is being held on December 30 (Poush 14). And, Republica Miss Teen, supposed to be held on December 21 has moved to December 31 (Poush 16) due to the Maoist’s nationwide general strike for three days starting Dec 20.

Is that all? Or, did I miss some more beauty contests? 

If the trend continues, someday we might be proud to be called – ‘Nepal, the land of beauties’.

Hits FM Music awards 2066

Anju Panta and Shreya Sotang won two awards each in the 13th Hits FM music award, 2066. Anju was awarded with the Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Record of the Year for Ghazal song ‘Nabirse Timilai…’ (video attached below).

Shreya Sotang was awarded with Best Pop Vocal Female and the Best New Artist award. It is to be noted that Shreya is daughter of Uday and Manila Sotang, who also won the Best Vocal Collaboration title.

16-yr old Kusal KC and solar car – doucmentary

I wrote about the 16 year old kid who made a Solar Car with limited resources and budget in Baglung, western Nepal. Kushal was hailed by everybody and an insurance company General Insurance Co. Ltd. provided free insurance for him. The short documentary on Kushal and his attempts to build different things, was prepared by Motherland Nepal a California based organization.

Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu best in the KTV Film Award 2066

NEFTA KTV Film Award 2066 took place at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza on December 16, 2009. ‘Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu’, a film by Bhuwan KC, won the award for Best Film. Bhuwan KC himself won Best Actor award for the same movie and the actress of the movie, Jharana Thapa, also won the Best Actress award. The movie bagged a total of nine awards including best singer, dress design, fight direction, script and editing.

Kishor Rana got the Best Director award for his movie ‘Mr. Mangale’. Mr. Mangale became the second best movie with six awards including best dialogue, best character actor, best comedy actor, child actor, and best background music. Movies ‘Silsila’ and ‘Sandesh’ bagged three awards each.

Rajesh Hamal was awarded the Mahanayak, based on his overall acting career. Similarly, Dr. Bhola Rijal was awarded with the Life-time Achievement Award.

Miss Newa 2009 to be held on December 30

One of the many ethnic communities, Newar community, has been conducting its own beauty pageant, Miss Newa, for the past few years. This year,  36 participants are choosen from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dolkha, Dhading, Terhathum, and Dhangadi for the final contest to be held on December 30, 2009.

Apart from Miss Newa, other ethnic community beauty contest – Miss Sherpa and Miss Gurung started in the year 2004. Miss Newa followed them and the first Miss Newa was organized by Nepalese Fashion Home in the year 2005. Since then Miss Newa is organized annually. Ms. Sabita Shrestha was crowned the first Miss Newa (2005). Ms. Subita Pradhan (2006), Ms. Supriya Tuladhar (2007) and Ms. Aakasha were the crown holders in successive years.

Last year’s Miss Newa 2008, Akasha Bajracharya will handover the Miss Newa crown to the winner of this year’s title.

Love Affair of Charles Sobhraj and Nihita Biswas to be made a Film

When news about marriage of Charles Sobhraj with a 20-year-old Nepali fiancée, Nihita Biswas was released I wrote “loving and marrying a killer with approval of a lawyer mother looks a bit fishy!”

Avenues TV aired an interview of Nihita in which she claimed that Sobhraj was innocent and her love was for life. I wasn’t alone on suspecting their affair. Film director Narayan Puri was watching the interview and decided to cash on the story.

“I watched the program with the girl saying confidently she knew about his past but yet was ready to marry him and I was very impressed,” Puri said. “I realized that it’s not only people with a positive image who have fans. It can happen to even a prisoner behind bars. I also realized what an intelligent man Sobhraj was and how his taking to crime was a loss for society.”

Kaiane Aldorino crowned Miss World 2009

The 59th Miss World pageant, Miss World 2009, held on December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa crowned Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar the new Miss World. Aldorino had to compete with 111 other beauties from all around the world.

This year, Miss Nepal Zenisha Moktan participated in the event and as expected, she couldn’t win any titles. But, participation in itself was an achievement when compared to the last minute cancelation of last year’s Miss Nepal event.

Khagendra proposed and kissed Rekha Thapa

Khagendra Thapa Magar, world’s shortest person (62 cm) is only 4.6 kg in weight. When somebody meets the 18-year-old guy, the person can not resist carrying him.  This time it was actress Rekha Thapa who carried and kissed Khagendra. Khagendra returned the favor with numerous kisses and a marriage proposal.

The light-weight little guy Khagendra Thapa Magar is being an object of admiration among political leaders and film actors these days. Khagendra is collecting funds but, it looks like the political leaders were more concerned with carrying him rather than supporting financially. In my last post PM Nepal was carrying him on his lap.

Desperate to get roles in movies ?

Among rumors of wide-spread sex exploitation in Nepali film industry, new (to-be)actresses are announcing their ‘bold’ intentions. These new actresses are desperate to get a role in movies. These new actresses are unsure of their talents and want to succeed based on body exposure.

The 18-year-old beauty Sugam Sharma has come to Kathmandu from Chitawan with a dream to be a film actress. Sugam claims that she is very good in dancing and she had own numerous prizes in school competition. She has done some modeling and music videos in Chitawan. She also told that she is willing to “expose as much as the story demands”.

Richa Ghimire marriage (Update – photos)

Richa Ghimire, actress, is going tie her knots with Shankar Ghimire, film director, today. They had been busy for the last few days, preparing for the marriage.

Richa would have been happy enough by ‘court marriage’ but her family and Shankar insisted in doing it in a more traditional fashion. Richa had a mehendi ceremony in which her friends and family applied mehendi on her hands and feet. Applying mehendi is an Indian tradition and it has encroached Nepali society in recent days.

Mt. Everest (Kala Patthar) to Copenhagen

Nepal government set a World Record by holding a cabinet meeting at Kala Patthar, near Everest base camp. The event was live broadcasted worldwide causing unprecedented media coverage. It was a successful event, even though most of the Nepali think it was an unnecessary expense and the transportation helicopters caused further environment degradation.

Now, it is time to take the decision made in the meeting to the international climate change summit in Copenhagen. The PM is going to the meeting with more than 60 people with him. He choose to ignore the experts’ suggestion to take only 5 people with him.  He is given a 3 minutes time to talk at the summit.

Narayan Tripathi Comedy Collection

Narayan Tripathi is one of the comedian in Nepali movies, TV serials. He also used to host joke shows in TV and radios.

Narayan Tripathi was an active comedy artist in TV programs, Gaijatra programs and comedy roles in feature films. After he moved to the USA he is rarely seen in movies and TV shows. Sometimes he conducts comedy program in stage shows but, that too is rare. Narayan Tripathi is another example of artists lost to foreign country.
