A documentary film directed by journalist Bhojraj Bhat, ‘Sunkali’ has won Audience Award at the sixth Toronto Film Festival held on March 28, 2015. The award is of value $1,000. 7 fiction and non fiction Nepali films had participated in the festival.

‘Sunkali’ was previously Best ICIMOD Mountain Film Award and Judges Special Mention Award at the tenth Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) held in Kathmandu in December of 2014. The award was also of valueÂ $1,000. It had also won Honorable Mention in Mountain Nature and Culture in 9th Mountain Film Festival Domzale in February 2015.

The short docu-drama spanning 3:25 minutes, is produced by Good Neighbors Nepal on the concept of Bimal Singh Bist. Sunkali is a 13-years old football player of Mugu. She and the team had played a and won the football game out of the district. A simple storyline is presented in the film in an artistic way.

Nai Nabhannu La 3 premiered, Rekha appreciates Muskan Dhakal suspiciously

The premier show of this week’s release ‘Nai Nabhannu La 3’ was held on Monday in Kathmandu. In the show artists, technicians and journalists were invited. There were positive reviewers of the movie. The movie is releasing on theater on April 10 along with Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s movie ‘Hawaldar Suntali’ and Nir Shah‘s movie ‘Seto Bagh’.

In the premier the response Actress Rekha Thapa after watching the movie is linked to her ex-husband’s movie ‘Hawaldar Suntali’. Rekha rushed response to offer one of her future movies to the director Muskan Dhakal, left people wondering if she was pulling legs of her ex husband Chhabi. Rekha had hugged Muskan Dhakal and promised to make him the captain of one of her future movies.

Prinsha Shrestha no longer Miss Earth Nepal, accused of misconduct

The Miss Nepal organizer, Hidden Treasure has stripped off Miss Earth Nepal 2015 crown from Prinsha Shrestha and handed it over to Sonie Rajbhandari. Prinsha is accused of :

Misconduct, indiscipline and unacceptable behavior
Controversial public image in the form of questionable behavior
Travelling out of country without consent of Hidden Treasure
Participation in an international pageant in conflict of Hidden Treasure

The decision of Hidden Treasure was released as a press release on April 5 based on the decision made by the organization’s Board of Direcctors on April 2, 2015.

In the contest organized on May 2, 2014, Subin Limbu was selected Miss Nepal, Prinsha was crowned Miss Earth Nepal and Sonie Rajbhandari was selected Miss International Nepal.

Anup Baral announces Dokh in his birthday (officially)

We had told about Anup’s new movie ‘Dokh’ and its story theme in our earlier post. Anup officially announced the movie during the celebration of his birthday on Saturday, April 4, at Shilpi Theater, Kathmandu. The birthday cake was specially designed to convey the theme of the movie – football game.

In the event, Anup cut his birthday cake and shared it with the artists and the crew. He also announced the film title and the production crew. The story of ‘Dokh’ was selected in a script writing contest. Rajan Kathet had written the story of the movie.

‘Dokh’ is the second movie of Anup Baral after directing his previous movie ‘Fitkiree’. The movie is being produced by the Australian company that had produced ‘Ritu’ (watch ‘Ritu’ here), ALP Entertainment.

Namrata Shrestha, Manisha Koirala selected Best Dancer Nepal 2015

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, Nepali actress Namrata Shrestha and actor / director Nischal basnet were the the judges of the dance competition organized by Sushila Arts Academy. In the grand finale organized on April 3 in Russian Culture Center, the Best Dancer Nepal 2015 title was awarded to Jenisha Dangol.

In the event, Manisha was also honored by Guest of the Honor for accepting to be one of the judges of the competition. With Manisha, Namrata, Nischal, and Tata Motors country manager Hemanta Puranik were the judges of the competition in the finale.

The jury of the competition also included Mithila Sharma with Hemant Puranik.

Bhuwan KC biography delayed

The biography of the superstar and playboy of Nepali film industry, Bhuwan KC, was told to be releasing on Chaitra 22. The day is the birthday of his mother. But, the book has been delayed because Bhuwan hasn’t been able to review it before the publication. The book was announced in an event organized in January. The publisher, had paid Bhuwan Rs. 235,000 for the permission to write the biography.

According to Kamal Dhakal of Ghost writing Nepal, Bhuwan is currently busy in the shooting of a movie and he hasn’t found time to review the final draft of the book. The delay expected to be as much as a month.

Classic to feature Namrata Shrestha and Aryan Sigdel, song recording started

The producers of ‘Novmeber Rain’ are starting the making of the next project titled ‘Classic’. The song recording of the movie featuring Namrata Shrestha and Aryan Sigdel in leading role and Wilson Bikram Rai in supporting role, has started on March 31 in Cinezone Studio, Kathmandu.

The movie features the music of Taraprakash Limbu and is being made on the direction of Dinesh Raut. On the first day of song recording singers Yubaraj Chaulagain and Melina Rai gave voice to the song. In the event cinematographer Rajesh Shrestha and producers Subash Giri and Kamal Giri were also present.

Sudarshan Thapa and Pooja Sharma announce two new movies Premgeet and Meera

Actor, producer and director Sudarshan Thapa has announced the production of two new Nepali movies in association with his partner Santosh Sen in a press meet organized in Kathmandu on April 2, 2015. The movie titled ‘Premgeet’ is a romantic love story movie featuring actress Pooja Sharma in leading role. Another movie titled ‘Meera’ will feature a new face in the leading role.

‘Chankeh Sankhe Pankhe’ trailer release

The announcement was made at the event organized to release the trailer of upcoming movie ‘Chankeh Sankhe Pankhe’. The artists of the film, Nepali film industry personalities and journalists were invited in the event. The shooting of the new movies will start after two months of the release of ‘Chankeh Sankhe Pankhe’. The movie is releasing on Jestha 1 (May 15, 2015).

Friday Release, Tanab

This week only one movie ‘Tanab’ is releasing in theater on April 3, 2015. It is a relief at the time when three or more movies are being released every week. Previously another movie ‘Paap’ was also scheduled to release on the same date. But, the movie is now delayed for a few weeks.

A movie directed by Rishi Neupane, ‘Tanab’ is made on a real incident. The movie features Nirmal Century with actresses Ragini Khadgi and Ani Kunwar. The actor Century is featured as a lover boy and action actor.

Shilpa never met Hawaldar Suntali, Suntali Dhami

In a surprising revelation, the actress who is posed as Suntali Dhami in her upcoming movie has never met the real life person. Actress Shilpa Pokharel, featured as Suntali, in the movie ‘Hawaldar Suntali’, has told that the director didn’t let her meet Suntali Dhami.

Hawaldar is the rank of the police officer named Suntali. In addition to the name the movie is being promoted for being based on the life of Suntali Dhami. But, talking to an online magazine, the director Rishi Lamichane told that there was no need for Shilpa to meet Suntali in real life. He added, the movie is only based on some aspects of Suntali Dhami and Shilpa didn’t need to act as the real Suntali in the movie.

Jhola to be rereleased on April 24

The movie made on the age old Sati tradition, ‘Jhola’ is scheduled to re-release on April 24, 2015. The movie sent to Oscar by the Nepali authorities was initially released on February 6, 2014. Although the movie celebrated 51 days in some theaters, the reception of the general public wasn’t that good, despite of good reviews. The xNepali reviewer had recommended it ‘a must watch movie’ (read ‘Jhola’ review in xnepali).

After the actress Garima Pant received the best actress award in SAARC Film Festival 2014, the interest in the movie attained new height. The actress was appreciated by everybody including the president, artists’ association and was honored by the National award. Although the movie couldn’t get the nomination in the Oscars, the movie has received positive responses from various festivals.

Bracelet, Ramesh Upreti making a comeback in Nirmal Sharma movie

The comedy actor of ‘Tito Satya’ known as Gaida, Nirmal Sharma is directing the second movie even before the release of his directorial debut, ‘Chocolate’. Through the movie titled ‘Bracelet’ the US return actor Ramesh Upreti is also making a comeback.

In a program organized in Hotel Everest in Kathmandu, the producer Keshav Bhattarai has made the announcement of the movie. With Ramesh Upreti the movie will also feature actress Rajani KC and Namrata Sapkota. The movie introduces two new actors Rhitik Shahi and Sugam Sharma. After debuting in Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s movie ‘Loafer’ (watch ‘Loafer’ here) Rajani KC had acted in ‘Pardesh’ and ‘Bracelet’ would be her third movie.

Resham Filili, official video of Jalama delayed

The popular song of upcoming movie ‘Resham Filili’ titled ‘Jalama …’ has received unprecedented response from the audience. The song is so popular that numerous covers, music videos and re-recordings have surfaced online. The film makers had only released the audio and haven’t released the video yet. May be because of the popularity, they have decided not to release the video until the release of the movie.

One music video made on the song by Australian dancers have gone viral and received positive reviews. Now the film makers have a challenge to make a better video to such a popular song. May be because of that risk they have decided to delay the release of the video. International fashion designer Prabal Gurung had also tweeted the video link to the ‘Jalama … ‘ dance.
