Inter caste marriages of Nepali actresses, what did Samriddhi Rai say about Rai guys?

Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.

Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)

After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses. Here is the list of 10 actresses who had done inter-caste marriage.

Karishma Manandhar blunder in Naya Shakti event, everything wasn’t bad

Nobody can deny that Karishma Manandhar made huge blunder in the announcement ceremony of the new political party led by ex-Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai. Although she made many mistakes, she had also done some appreciable work while emceeing the event. After going through the videos in which she has done a very bad job of being an announcer, I wanted to compile the things she had done better than others. Here is final result:

In the video, I have compiled the things she had done well. That doesn’t mean that she hadn’t done any mistakes. The reasons she had done mistakes in the event are:

  • Karishma Manandhar wasn’t well prepared. She had done mistakes in pronouncing names and reading written words. If she had read the script before the event, she would have avoided most of such mistakes.
  • Script issue – It seems, the script for Karishma wasn’t prepared that well. Made some good unscripted statements but, if it were written down, she might have delivered in better manner.
  • Language problem – Karishma had used English language and Nepali languages in the stages. Although she told that she used English to address foreigners, she had used English to expressed her feelings – that too in wrongful way. It would have been better if she had adhered in one language.
  • Personality confusion – There were a lot of speakers who were not favourable to the party she was affiliated to. For example, Nepali Congress and it’s leaders, CPN UML and its leaders and other leaders were clearly the competitor to Naya Shakti. It sounded uneasy when she tried to show her linkage to the Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba or CPN UML chief KP Oli.
  • Reading letter from Bhutan – I think that was the biggest mistake Karishma made in the event. She shouldn’t have read the letter as she had difficulty pronouncing words and names in it.

Gajalu Premier show held in Shristi Shrestha hometown, London, Anmol KC didn’t attend

The premier show of upcoming movie ‘Gajalu’  was held in London on May 29, 2016. In the event, actress Shristi Shrestha and the producer Rohit Adhikari were present. Actor Anmol KC and the director Hemraj BC were also scheduled to attend the world premier show, but they didn’t. It is surprising why Anmol KC returned back to Nepal a few days before the premier show. The film maker’s don’t have a palatable answer to the reason Anmol returned back to Nepal.

Watch the video report of the event:

The movie, ‘Gajalu’ is scheduled to release on June 10, 2016. The movie directed by Hemraj BC – the director of two of the previous hit movies of Anmol KC – ‘Hostel’ and ‘Jerryy’ a well known director in the Nepali movie industry. Raj Kumar Rai in Chhesko Press Meet, patch up with Archana Paneru ?

The Film Development Board (FDB) chief, Raj Kumar Rai was seen at the press meet of upcoming release ‘Chhesko’. The movie produced last year and ready to release at that time was delayed because of the earthquake of 2015. Before the release next week, the movie producers had added actress Archana Paneru in some scenes. The movie is promoted as if Archana is the lead and most important actress in the movie. The actress who is debuting in the movie had been one of the most controversial actress in the history of Nepali movie industry.

The presence of Raj Kumar Rai in the event was surprising as he was the one who was against Archana Paneru entering the film industry. Because of that, Rai had delayed the approval of ‘Jism’, the Raju Giri movie which was supposed to be the first movie of Archana. Watch a video report:

Raj Kumar Rai had also ordered the arrest of Archana and the entire ‘Jism’ team in Pokhara. They later patched up and the movie was approved. But, by the time the movie was finalized the relationship between Archana Paneru and Raju Giri soured. Now, Archana is planning to lodge a complaint against Raju Giri in the government regulatory body, FDB.

Types of mothers in Nepali film industry, celebrity mothers and the mothers of celebrities

There are different types of mothers in Nepali film industry. Some mothers are celebrity mothers others are housewife mothers. I found a nice compilation of different types of mothers in which some mothers are like Sunita Paneru, the mother of actress Archana Paneru. Sunita did something no other Nepali mothers have done or might do to her daughter. It is strange, how a mother can encourage her daughter to smokes and drink. That is the reason she is in the top of the list.

Other mothers are celebrity mother themselves like actress Karishma Manandhar, Jharana Thapa, and Suvekshya Thapa. All these mothers have grown up daughters who are old enough to be featured as actresses. Despite of their old age, they still are featured as young girls in the movies.

10 months of preparation, Aana Sharma locked in for years in Gangster Blues, no Anmol KC

This is something unheard of in the Nepali movie industry – a lengthy preparation in the shooting of a movie – 10 months of exclusivity of the artists even before the start of the shooting. A good movie need a good deal of preparation. Some movies take years of making but, no other film makers had announced a movie almost a year in advance for the preparation and signed the lead artists so that they don’t do any other movies.

I am talking about ‘Gangster Blues’ – upcoming movie by hit director Hemraj BC. The movie to be shot in Magh (February/March 2017) was announced in Baisakh 22 (May 4, 2016). In the event Hemraj introduced the lead actors in the movie Anna Sharma (‘Jerry’ actress), Ashirman Desraj Shrestha Joshi, Gaurav Pahadi etc. and informed about the preparation of the movie. The artists are going to start the workshop and homework for the movie in the next 10 to 12 months before the shooting actually start. Hemraj BC told that the artists will be trained in character specific acting, physical fitness and other preparation in that time. To bind the artists fully in the movie, they are not allowed to sign in any other movies in that time. A video report of Aana Sharma’s exclusivity agreement:

Who is Hemraj BC?

Out of the three movies released so far, two of Hemraj BC movie were super hit movies – ‘Hostel’ and ‘Jerryy’. The third movie, ‘Sambodhan’ was also liked by viewers although it wasn’t commercially hit. The fourth movie ‘Gajalu’ is going to release soon.

For Hemraj, Anmol KC had proved the lucky charm as the hit movies featured Anmol in lead role. ‘Gajalu’ also features Anmol KC in leading role and is introducing Miss Nepal 2012, Shristi Shrestha as an actress. BC had planned Anmol KC to lead ‘Gangster Blues’. Because of the unavailability of the dates with Anmol because of his work in home production movie ‘Dreams’, the movie ‘Gangster Blues’ was delayed. Anmol became busier after the hat trick in hit movies and couldn’t commit to BC’s year-long exclusivity. That is the reason Hemraj found Ashirman Desraj to lead the movie.
