Dipa Basnet became the first by directing Shree Paanch Ambare

Deepa Basnet is NOT the first female director in Nepali movie industry. But, she sure is the FIRST female director who has directed her second movie. So far, no female director had directed more than one movies. In our investigation on female directors in Nepali film industry, there are only 5 female directors and they had directed one movie each.

Deepa Basnet‘s directorial debut was ‘Antaral’. Although the movie was liked by critics, it wasn’t successful in theater. She had also won the best director award in D Cine Award. She reportedly was very frustrated by the politics of release and holdover in theater. She had told that she wouldn’t direct another movie. But, the producers of ‘Shree Paanch Ambare’ convinced Dipa to direct another movie.

MaHa celebrated Dashain in USA

Currently in the USA MaHa, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bamsha Acharya celebrated Dashain festival in the USA. They are currently in US tour with other comedy artists like Shiva Hari Poudel, Kiran KC, Basundhara Bhusal and others.

Both Madan Krishna and Hari Bansha’s sons Yaman Shrestha and Mohit Bansha Acharya respectively are together in the tour for the first time in their career. Madan Krishna’s son Yaman is a good comedy singer and Mohit prefers acting.

Dashain of actress Rekha Thapa will be full of her new release ‘Himmatwali’ scheduled to release on the Fulpati day. She will be more focused in the promotion of the movie rather than enjoying the festival. (Read more in RekhaThapa.net)

Shilpa Pokharel’s Dashain

‘Lazza’ actress Shilpa Pokharel gets excited of the festival. She likes everything from tika, jamara, meeting relatives and having fun. Shilpa’s hometown is Biratnagar and her grand parents, parents and her uncle aunts all still live in Biratnagar. So, she will be visiting her hometown for the festival.

Chhabi Raj Ojha wants to marry Shilpa Pokharel, Shilpa agrees to live together

Producer Chhabi Raj Ojha‘s introduction, actress Shilpa Pokharel has rejected his marriage proposal but has agreed to live together with him. In an interview with a television program Chhabi and Shilpa have told that they are willing to live together with Rekha Thapa‘s ex-husband.

Statements of Chhabi and Shilpa about their relationship:

Chhabi told, “If a girl like Shilpa is willing to marry me, I would jump in right away.” In response, Shilpa said that she is not ready to married now. She told, if Chhabi is willing to wait she could think about marriage. In the mean time, she also told that she is willing to live together. Based on the statements in the video above, anybody can guess that the relationship has gone a long way.

Celebrity gossips in Ncell Literature Festival

On the last day of Ncell Literature Festival 2014 Nepali film personalities Priyanka Karki, Malvika Subba and director Nilu Doma Sherpa talked about celebrity gossips. They expressed their dissatisfaction about the media being too sneaky and unaware of their personal privacy.

Talking in the event, Malvika told that she gets scared by some of the media gossips. She told, celebrity and media should have been close buddies but when media publishes some personal information without our knowledge it might affect the personality of the person involved.

Sweta Khadka writes a tragic poem in remembrance of Shree Krishna Shrestha

On the 45 days of the death of actor Shree Krishna Shrestha, his wife actress Sweta Khadka has written a tragic poem. Sweta had shared the untitled poem in her Facebook page.

In the poem Sweta has stated that she has been crying for the last 45 days and has been living with pain in her heart. She has wished the soul of Shree Krishna an eternal peace. In earlier statements, Sweta had told that she won’t be able to forget Shree Krishna and that she won’t be happy again. The poem (attached below) tries to state the same thing.

Sweta Khadka promises to meet the public ‘soon’

Actress and the widow of late actor Shree Krishna Shrestha, Sweta Khadka, has told that she will meet her fans in near future. In a message posted in Facebook, Sweta thanked everybody for the love and support during the bad time. She appreciated and thanked viewers, artists, journalists and media for the success of ‘Kohinoor’.

Sweta added, “I had never thought I would go through such a dreadful time. I will never forget this incident and even if I try hard I would probably never be happy again.”

Malvika Subba to comeback to television with a reality shot

Actress and ex-Miss Nepal, Malvika Subba, is coming back to the television with a reality show to be produced by a NGO. The show titled ‘Idea Studio’ has a theme of converting an idea to an industry.

Based on her actions these days, we can easily guess that actress Rekha Thapa is feeling insecure and impatient to to start something other than acting.

After enjoying a decade-long position of being top actress, she might be well aware that new actresses might dethrone her any time. That might be one of the reasons she was the only winners who didn’t attend the National Film Award ceremony. Rekha later accused the organizers of asking her money for the award.

After the National Award Ceremony Rekha had expressed her dissatisfaction of Garima Pant winning the Best Actress award in SAARC Film Festival and the National Film Award. She made a whole lot of fuss about her not knowing about the SAARC film festival and likes. She also didn’t like Neeta Dhungana winning an award in the National Film Award. She even accused Jharana Thapa winning the award because of her close ties with the FDB chief Pappu. Although Rekha’s accusation were serious nobody took it seriously. Is that a sign that Rekha was feeling grossly insecure as an actress?

Model Richa Dhamala jailed on charges of murder attempt

She is a killer model – not a model with killer looks – but, a real killer. She hired killers to kill her step mother.

The model who was arrested on charges of murder attempt of her step mother is taken to jail. The Bhaktpur District Court has ordered six people including Richa to jail. They are charged of abduction and an attempt to murder Richa’s step mother Mamata Ghimire Dhamala.

The police had arrested Richa Dhamala on Ashad 15 (July 29) with her boyfriend Ashaman Tamang and 6 others. After the misunderstandings in financial dealings she allegedly paid 15 lakh to kill her step mother. The police had arrested the youths when they were going to abduct Mamata.

NFDC Film Awards 2014, Jhola wins 4 awards

Awards in 20 different categories were awarded in the NFDC National Film Awards 2071 held in the Army Officers Club in Kathmandu. In the event the movie made on a traditional sati practice, ‘Jhola’ has won four different awards including best movie, best director, best actress and best character actress awards.

‘Jhola’ won ‘Hira Best Movie award’, it’s director Yadav Bhattarai was awarded ‘Prakash Best Director’, it’s lead actress Garima Pant was awarded ‘Bhuwan Best Actress’ award and it’s character actress Laxmi Giri was awarded ‘Basundhara Supporting Actress’ award.

The actor Shree Krishna Shrestha had died on the second week of August 9, 2014. On the month of of his death, we have compiled some of his movies for you to enjoy.

Shree Krishna’s death came as an unpleasant surprise. Just after a month of marriage and on the day after the release of his movie ‘Kohinoor’, the timing of the death was unexpected.

Rekah Thapa didn’t show up in the convention in the USA

Rekha Thapa and Sudarshan Gautam didn’t show up in the ANMA – NASeA Joint convention organized in Denver Colorado from August 29 to August 31, 2014. Rekha was scheduled to premier her upcoming movie ‘Himmatwali’ and meet the guests of the event. But, the premier show was canceled at the last minute and Rekha and Sudarshan also didn’t show up in the program to meet the guests.


The convention was organized at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Denver International Airport. Rekha had arrived there on September 27 with her mother Saraswati Thapa.
