25 Divorces in Nepali movie industry

It is not only in the Nepali movie industry, divorce among Nepali couple has been in the increasing trend these days. This might be because, compromising is not in the cards of today’s youth. I think, there is nothing wrong to get out of the relationship that is not working out. But, divorce also brings a lot of pain and problems to the both the couple involved. The traditional Nepali society has made it even worse by tagging them ‘bad example’ to the society.

This post was originally written on Jan 29, 2012. In the mean time I had updated it to reflect the changes in the status of Nepali artists. I think, it is the time to rewrite the whole post.

2016 – Rekha Thapa and Chhabi Raj Ojha have officially divorced after 4 years of unofficial divorce after a decadeÂ of living together. They signed the legal paper and make it legal in August of 2016. Right after the divorce, Chhabi has told that he is planning to get married for the fourth time. Will he marry the actress Shilpa Pokharel or is he using the controversy only to promote his movie – that is a huge mystery of the Nepali movie industry.

While shooting and post-production of ‘Himmatwali’ Rekha is having an affair with Sudarshan Gautam. But, right after the release of the movie, Rekha reportedly dumped Sudarshan.

Dashain 2016 – Dashain Tika photos (Update with videos)

UPDATE: Dashain has finished today. I collected 100s of photos of celebrities. But, posting them in the page would not be that much interesting to the most of the site visitors. So, I collected the photos of 40+ Nepali actress celebrating Dashain this year and prepared a video (I deleted the video – nobody watched it).

I also prepared a video about the fist Dashain of two Miss Nepal sons. In addition to the sons of Jharana Bajracharya and Malvika Subba, the daughter of actress Richa Ghimire also celebrated her Dashain for the first time in her life.

The Nepali movie ‘Miteri Gaun’ is a presentation of Gagan Birahi. The movie features action of Rajendra Khadgi, choreography of Basanta Shrestha, music of Sambhu Rai, and the cinematography of Gauri Shankar Dhunju. The director Gagan Birahi is also the producer of the movie. In addition to producing and directing, Birahi has also written the story of the movie.

Inter caste marriages of Nepali actresses, what did Samriddhi Rai say about Rai guys?

Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.

Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)

After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses. Here is the list of 10 actresses who had done inter-caste marriage.

Nepali Artists Dashain in foreign countires

Wherever people go, they take their culture with them. Nepali people are no exception. Nepal people all over the world celebrated Dashain Tika on October 22, 2015. I shared some photos of Nepali artists celebrating Dashain in my previous post. Now, it is time to share photos of Dashain celebration in places out of Nepal. Although, every Nepali have celebrated Dashain, I will only share photos of Nepali artists. This post will be updated if I find more artists celebrating Dashain in countries other than Nepal.

2014, the year of celebrity marriages

UPDATE on July 12 Five more marriages were held in July. We had talked about the three marriages at the end of this post. Two additional marriages include that of Sweta Bhattarai, Prakriti Shrestha. Mithila Sharma married Motilal Bohara in an un-announced event among close friends only. Sweta Khadka marries Shree Krishna Shrestha and Diya Maskey marries Anup Baral in public functions, Sweta Bhattarai marries Milan Sapkota secretly and another unannounced marriage was that of Prakriti Shrestha and Sudeep Neupane.

UPDATE on June 27 Richa Singh Thakuri married to an Australian NRN, Gajendra Thapa, on Ashad 6 (June 20). The news about their marriage was released a few weeks earlier.

It seems, the year 2014 is going to the year of celebrity marriages. It started with actress Bhawana Regmi marrying in January. The celebrity marriages, so far in 2014, are:

Bhawana Regmi marriage

The daughter of late director Shiva Regmi got married in January, a month after her father’s death. The marriage of ‘So Simple’ actress was a low profile marriage in family mourning the death of her father.

Shankar BC and Nisha Sunar marriage

We don’t know the exact date of this marriage between choreographer and dancer Shankar BC and singer Nisha Sunar. The couple shared their secret marriage photo in February 2014 right after Nisha went to USA. In the USA, Nisha also gave birth to a child within a month of the marriage announcement. Shankar has a family of his own in Nepal and it was the third marriage of Nisha.

The marriage doesn’t make much as Shankar is living in Nepal and Nisha living in USA. A month after the birth of the child, Nisha has started working in a restaurant in the USA.

Pooja Chand becomes Pooja Raju Lama, not a Pooja Lama

After ‘officially’ marrying Raju Lama, actress Pooja Chand had changed her last name and added the full name of her new husband to her name – Pooja R. Lama.

It is clear, Pooja wanted to differentiate from singer, model and actress Pooja Lama. The other Pooja is known for different scandals including a sex scandal. We had compiled a scandal profile of Pooja Lama in 2010.

Pooja Chand ‘officially’ marries Raju Lama

After marrying and living together with Raju Lama for almost three years, Pooja Chand made it ‘official’ in a similar ceremony on February 22, 2014.

In May of 2011, we wrote about their marriage. After that, they had started living together in Baltimore, US. At that time, they had promised to perform a formal marriage ceremony within the next three months. It seems, the three months extended to three years until they performed the rituals.

Saranga Shrestha celebrates her first marriage anniversary

It has been a year since the marriage of actress Saranga Shrestha to Ramesh Karki. They got married on February 1, 2013. In the mean time, Saranga gave birth to a daughter in September of 2013.

On the occasion of the anniversary, Saranga said, "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."

Real Names of Nepali artists who had changed their name after entering the film industry

Changing names is a common practice among Nepali artists for a better name or for good luck. Some astrologers suggest a different names for the success in their career. For example, Bhuwan KC changed his name to a 7-lettered Bhuwann before the release of his movie ‘Sathi Ma Timro‘. It’s a different story, the movie didn’t do well in theater. Actress Binita Baral had also changed her name to Beenita (7-letters) on the suggestion of an astrologer. The result of the change in names were not that exciting. But, that won’t deter people from changing names. Others change to a better sounding names like Shova to Nandita, Radheshyam to Ramit, Nawaraj to Nawal and so on.
